Tell me about it, LOL
Well, one idea for live stream is to incorporate a picture in picture for interviews. It could be a 50/50 split, one side game is going on without stopping lowered audio, other side have the interview going on with more audible sound.
I don’t mind the noob commentators, I actually thought their Ken mirror match was hilarious. To me you do not need expert play by play, your eyes already pick it up faster than the PBP person can deliver. You only need PBP like that when you can’t see what is going on.
Watch a baseball or basketball game on TV.
Listen to a baseball or basketball game on Radio.
The commentary is quite different.
its the GLOVESSS :wgrin: lol
i liked the way djWheat commentated on the matches…he had a feel for what was goin on and he knew not to say some stuff like…i got nothin (like that guy from the ST commentary next to S-kill)
djWheat did good IMO great coverage, great staff, i swear it reminded me of like some ESPN shit with the type of professional coverage and footage they had
Edit: i agree that the coverage or commentary should include at least 1 great player or at least a knowledgeable one who can provide answers, insight and other stuff while the match is going on or even before the match similar to the commentary done on Justin vs Sin in HDR
DJWheat, although clearly not a hardcore fighting game player, did an excellent job of filling dead air. I don’t think people understand how difficult that is to do.
Take the MvC2 special commentators. The majority of the time there was either (a.) dead air, or (b.) them saying “uh-oh” x1000.
I thought DJWheat did a damn good job; good radio voice, had the ability to direct the flow of conversation, and did a nice job of handling content that he may not have been 100% familiar with.
Of course. There are lots of good examples of how live commentary is injected into an event with minimal impact. Look at the NBA. They don’t have random people doing commentary: they have ex-pros paired with professional commentators. They don’t stop in the middle of the 4th quarter to ask Kobe about his free throw percentage for 10-minutes, either.
I certainly think that’s preferred to impacting the running of the tournament, the performance of the players, or the enjoyment of the spectators at the event.
For the record, if I make top 32, I’d be down to commentate on my own matches. But just a warning in advance: I might be just a little biased towards myself. :wgrin:
how much money did jwong take home?
Someone told me the Marn vs. Flash Metroid match was the same link for both rounds, so it’s been fixed.

More coming tomorrow, including 3s teams. I can’t put up any new vids today.

This statement is correct. I was the one asking for the stream to be ignored to get the tourney rolling.
the stream shouldnt dictate the tourney, it should be the other way around, which wasnt the case.
there were a few times we had players just sitting there for 15 minutes waiting to start a fight, while they were doing interviews and such. then by the time the match could start, the player would be up in another tourney. so now were holding up two different tournaments just because they wanted a match that was only 3-4 rounds in streamed.
I think we need a better structure for the streaming next year, possibly to where only certain spots in the bracket get streamed, say winnners semis or losers semis. but spot on the bracket that are pre-determined that regaurdless of who the players are, just whose at that point in the bracket get streamed. I felt there were alot of matches streamed that really didnt need to be and that just slowed everything down and frustrated people.
We realize that the stream wasnt perfect and are looking to improve that for next year. the idea behind it was fantastic and will continue to find ways to streamline this so next year we wont have the same issue.
all feedback and ideas to improve are always welcome, we want to grow this and make it work for the community so all future tourneys can hopefully utilize the streams in a positive way so folks that cant make it can still feel like they are a part of it.
thanks for everybodies feedback so far!!
Makaveli are you the guy that gave me the KOFXII posters? I hope so because I already repped you for it! LOL.
Btw. I would like to see beyond top 3 and attendance numbers.
Sup guys, had shit loads of fun watching sf4 and all of you play your best! good seeing all of you there! go vid94 crew! lol
np dem-dem!
Can you update the results with the cash prizes?
Did anyone happen to record any of my matches in sf4 and hd(except the choi rape on the stream)
Maybe a good alternative (thats a slightly more complicated setup) is to have the ability to record matches locally (a good idea if you’re putting out a DVD anyway), and then instantly have the stream able to tap into those.
Sort of like in golf, when they’ll cut to Tiger, and be like “This just happened moments ago” and show a great shot, or a terrible shot, to get the viewer up to speed. That way the stream can broadcast them at their convenience, and get to all the important stuff, without necessarily needing to be “live”
That is a really good idea.
Ya that’s a good call. Commentary etc. can be added later. Just record everything live and have the stream run behind of the live event slightly.
ya, that was me dark geese. hope you liked them!!
Oh I love them, they are hanging on my wall now!!! :lovin:
