only top 3? didnt you guys say there was like 140 SF4 players? top 20 would be a little classier…

Maybe he’s just using 3 slots to hold the place, and will actually post full results when they’re ready.

Yeah… filler for now.

Thank You

I just wanted to thank everyone that organized this awesome event! The live stream was excellent! Congrats to all the winners!

I believe it was Sextaro, Gootecks & Kai (not Kobe)

It was Kai, but he called himself kobebryant24 the first day he was there. LOL

Thanks again to the staff for a great event. Was fun going and participating (and winning lol).

To my knowledge, brawl singles was Mew2King, DSF, SK92
MK Wii was The Game II, Asian Hybrid, Gumby

Videos from the event are now up, including SF4 finals

cant wait to see sf4, pros placing at like 48 and stuff.
damn… so many games, wish i coulda seen some ssbb action,

Isn’t that just the same people using different names?

There are so many freakin people to thank for this thing. Id like to first start off by thanking ROBB. In a word, you are AMAZING. Thank you for all of the time, sweat, blood and tears that you sacrificed to make this thing possible.

To all of the rest of the staff… paul, victor, racio, mike, both brians, corey, darren, cassie, groton, and all of the rest of the people i’m too dumb to remember. You guys are awesome. I kno there were a few snags but with the magnitude of this event, i’m surprised there werent more.

To the players… I’m so glad there was so much support from out-of-staters. It was great meeting new people and seeing the usuals as well.

Some specific thank you’s:

Watts: Good shit in sf4 and hdr… you need like 1 more month with 4 and you’ll be pretty unstoppable. Good shit in 3s as well… i had fun teamin with you and peter.

Peter: You had a pretty profound perspective on your losses in sf4… i’m confident that you will study and practice and come back hella strong at evo. Thanks for teamin in 3s.

Choi: My head still hurts from where you bashed me in it with your arcade stick. Lol! jk  Good work in 4… the same thing i said to watts applies to you as well. 1 more month and you’ll be DIESEL!

Edma: I was pretty certain i’d see you in the finals. Shake it off. I’m sure you’ll bring it back at evo. Thanks for the $5! :lovin:

Kai: Bitch, bitch, bitch! thats all you do is complain! :lovin: i’m glad you came out, Man. i’m sorry if it wasnt what you expected and i honestly hope we see you next year. Good work in 3s.

Dan: Nice Seth! I was seriously impressed! i’ll see you at evo, i’m sure.

Scott: Your Sakura is tight… i know you were disappointed with your performance but you did well. Thanks for beatin me again in HDR. Dick.

The VEGAS (zangief) CREW: You guys are fuckin awesome! Its always a pleasure chillen with you guys. I will definitely hit you up when i get to vegas!

Fubar: Thanks for the matches in 3s. You played pretty well! O, and happy birthday… i’m sorry, i had no idea!

Justin: Thank you for the 3s matches on sunday. I’ll work on the stuff we talked about. Congrats on all your wins.

Eamegaman: Your honda is tough as hell! Keep it up, Mang!

Cesar: I love you… yes homo

To anyone else i forgot: I’m deeply sorry and i will see you at evo.

We had a blast at Dev as well. It was great being there and meeting all the people I hear about from others as well as face to face with SRKers and customers.

We will back next year.

I’ve thanked everyone in person, but just another shout out to the entire Devastation Crew. I have done many events in the past, and this was the first that I truley felt like you guys were there to help us out all three days. Not just the first day and forget about us.

Thanks again.

Ed

nope

Devastation was great fun. Props to jedirobb and the whole Devastation team for putting on a great event. The only sour note for me was the way the tournament interfaced with the live stream. I’m going to get on my soap-box and bitch for a second. Please don’t take this personally. I’m just trying to write all my thoughts down so that you and other tournament organizers can benefit from how it felt to be at Devastation as opposed to at home watching it and how we think about live-streaming at EVO. You guys still rock :lovin:

There were three big problems with the live stream. The first was that frequent pauses during pool play caused a lot of tournaments to start falling behind. There were times when no matches in the brackets could be played because we were waiting on someone who was currently being interviewed or because the guys running the stream had queued up specific matches which created a log-jam in the bracket. Live streaming is great, but it shouldn’t cause tournaments to run behind like that.

Secondly, the expertise of the live-stream announces and the guy on the mic was clearly not there. The announcer on the microphone would either give a voice replay of the moves being done or would start talking trash about one of the opponents. Announcing done right should amplify the intensity of the match and inform the audience about what the players are going for. I don’t think the guy on the mic accomplished either of these: it was a net loss, actually. The live stream, while professionally produced, had the same sorts of problems. In the future, you guys should try harder to get people informed on the mics. At EVO we use a pro to provide insight into the match and a straight man to keep things moving. The straight man’s job is to feed questions in the pro to keep him talking and provide color. See if you can do that next time and it will help a lot.

The biggest let down for me, though, was the frequent pausing during finals day to do supplemental interviews for the live stream. Finals day should be one big rolling ball of hype: one good match after the next all day. Pausing 10 minutes between each match lets the audience cool down, which means a cold start of the hype machine for every match. The players themselves also cool down during the intervals, which means the quality of the play in the match is diminished as well. Honestly, but the time SF4 Finals rolled around, I’d concluded that this was the first tournament I’d been to where it was actually more hype for the viewers watching at home than the people who went. It shouldn’t be that way: the live stream should be there to supplement the tournament, not the other way around.

I still commend you guys for doing your best to bring the event to a wider audience. You guys have taken a very tiny tournament into something that’s getting pretty big in a very short amount of time. Not many people have done that for the community, and I applaud your persistence and your success. If you can work through those little bumps above, I’m sure you’ll run an even better event next year. Grats.

The commentary while SF4 matches where going on was pretty lame, but I think Paul did an excellent job commentating for the Tekken 6 matches.
I never really got into Tekken before but the way Paul was breaking down what was going on made me want to give it a try.
I also feel Fubar did a good job commentating on the TvC matches. Gave me some insight into higher level play.

All in all, I think DJWheat and crew did a very good job for their first attempt at covering a fighting game event like this. I am very grateful for their hard work and look forward to seeing them do this again (possibly at EVO?).

Mad props to the AZ FGC (fighting game community) this is the first tourney that I’ve been to where there was so much support from the free games supplied by CNC (castles n coasters) too the raffle items provided by Temple Arcade and arcade in a box. I can’t wait for next year. Pat yourselves on the back AZ you guys did very well. For everyone looking for a tourney next year to attend I say put devastation on the top of your list next to EVO.

I got shouts going out to Choco for bring "fist of the north star"
Hellmonkey for putting on that rei exhibition for us all to see (no offense Choco but I got those vids).
Suiken for showing me those Lei bound combos.
Justin in the batman coat for keeping tekken hype.
Kite for hosting at his place.
And the Biggest shout to Arnold without you I wouldn’t have been getting around AZ to well.

fubarduck was awesome on tvc also

Yea i think a key is to get seasoned players of said game lay it all out, so that the host can do like general observations and the pro guest can give details and ideas of the mentalities and whatnot, kind of like they do in the wwe if thats a decent enough example. Still, i thought it was as good of a start as any and I hope that this gets built up and really get this thing to take off.

Agreed, so long as it’s done so in a way that doesn’t sacrifice the enjoyment of the people who go to the actual tournament or greatly impede the running of the event itself. The format of the stream used at Devastation did both. The idea was great, just not the execution, IMO.
