Cross-ups seem easier, too

I put Alex Valle in losers last night at wnf abusing the new ex jyasen. If you can stockpile meter for projectile intensive matchups, you’ll find that it’s a lot easier. I played a few matches against a Guile in casuals too, and lp+mp ex roll pretty much strips many projectile characters of one of their main tools when you have meter.
Still sort of tripping out on how good it is. I got a free 300+ damage each match just from keeping spacing and reacting to mid-range hadokens.

I tested this a few times. It’s unblockable and uncrouchable, but it whiffs on neutral wake-up. And Rufus’ U2 counters this setup.

which one is a good ex Jyasen for fireballs ? the short range or the medium one or the heavy jyasen ?
I’m assuming he was using LP+HP unless he spent 4 bars or so a match on EX LP+MP rolls for 80 damage a pop.
I think another thing worth noting is how during EX Oga, on the way to the wall, Gen has no collision boxes. You pass through opponents.
This isn’t new, since EX Oga was unthrowable and slipped through Gief’s U2 in AE.

Yeah but I could have sworn you could be physically blocked from the wall before. You can’t now. Even after Oga, cr.mp xx EX Oga you slip right through them. I never really used it in AE, but maybe it is old news?

Lp+mp ex jyasen. Also, I was standing right outside of Valle’s c.mk range and poking with Crane c.mk. It beats out Ryu’s crouching forward and sweep with a counterhit, Ryu can’t safely jump forward from this spacing, and also slips under random hado/shakunetsu/metsu hado. Ryu must mostly move backwards in the matchup now when he doesn’t have a knock down on you, if you keep this spacing. I think it’ll evolve again to where ryu is looking to counterpoke or counter-sweep Gen.
Ryu’s new shoryu is very very nasty though. Please don’t jump forward on him if you can help it.
Crane c.hk buff also makes for less trades with anything but shoto J.Hp. Have to adjust your timing on it though, since we’re so used to having to do it very late.

nice … i just tested how Gen now can counter Ryu cr.mk … we can sweep hom or (mantis) c.hp or standing RH … In AE i used to beat ryu cr.mk with (mantins) cr.mp buffer to hands but now our mp is trade most of time some time ryu win pokes war !!! anyway (crane) cr.mk its a good find thank you will try it

this may very well be a stupid question, but does anyone know if Gekiro xx Cr U1 works anymore at all?
What I need to know is what the new frame data is for the focus attack changes compared to the old frame data, and how I can apply this to my game.

I understand that equal frame advantage and disadvantage on block in crane and hit in mantis (level 1 right?) Is pretty situational but I would rather develop Gens fundamentals more than anything.
Since the u2 mantis change I’ve been st.mp counterhitting into multra2 all day.

It does work, but it’s not easy, and as you probably know the damage scaling will in most cases make it almost worthless to attempt. Doing it from an anti air Gekiro makes it more forgiving, both in linking the ultra and needing less hits of Gekiro so that it does more damage total.
