Defenders Unite! (The MvC3 Hulk Team-Building Thread)

What character is the best when DHCing after Hulk has started with a Gamma Quake and leaved the screen?

I’d say Dante. If you’re using it at the end of a combo, he can extend the combo quite a bit for significant damage depending on how many of your assists you used before the Quake. Outside of combos, he can use it to create teleport cross-ups.

Dormammu and Hulk can make a pretty nasty chip setup by doing his floating ball hyper (name escapes me currently), into Gamma Quake or vice versa then X-factoring and doing it again. Does a ton of chip damage.

Thing is, Gamma Quake is basically never the best Hyper to end combos with. It only works in corner situations and almost any combo that gives you enough time to do Gamma Quake also gives you enough time to Gamma Wave into Gamma Crush, which does significantly more damage.

You just reminded me of a tactic I want to add to my earlier Dante breakdown:

  1. Arguably the best way to safely DHC Hulk out is to Gamma Crush and wait until he hits the ground and caused the huge explosion. Then immediately DHC into Dante’s Devil Trigger. This gives you the opportunity for a true 50/50 as the opponent cannot see whether you rush and attack low and in front or teleport and attack high from behind. Because the opponent is in block stun from Hulk’s Hyperit is very difficult to mash or jump out of it to avoid the mix-up.

Thanks Liquid for this wonderful analysis! But, as Dante is one of the characters I don’t want to add in my team, I might search for any other character with a good synergy with Hulk…

So I’ve been running Hulk(AA Charge) Ammy (Coldstar of course) and Task (Vert Arrows).

Decent? Terrible? Good?

Aside from occasional casuals this is my first go at really trying to learn the game so any info you tips on team building and what to consider would be really appreciated. I watch a lot of vids/streams and leech knoweldge, they seem to work decently together.

Depends on your team focus. If you’re like me and you expect Hulk to do most of the work, then you’re going to have some problems because you don’t have an OTG assist, which weakens your mid-screen combos and eliminates your air throw game. I assume Okami Shuffle works as a DHC from all of Hulk’s and Taskmaster’s hypers, but I’m not sure if either of those characters can follow Okami Shuffle unless you DHC before the last hit. Depending on how that works, that could really take away from this team.

What are the unblockables involving Hulk and deadpool’s katanarama? I was under the impression you would get the unblockable by calling quickwork while doing a jump s (which I do and is lovely) but throughout the posts I keep seeing ppl say use katanarama for unblockable/ OTG. Im aware it OTGs, I just dont know how youre setting it up for an unblockable?

Tsunami can hit out of the very end of Shuffle and if it’s in the corner I can DHC into Crush. Task can hit it from any where on the screen whenever he wants.

I’m trying to work out a way to deal with no OTG which is why I’m trying out Vert Arrows, but it obviously isn’t working well… lol.

Hey I am a first time poster and was wonder what you guys think of Hulk/Task/X-23 as a team, It seems to work pretty well but the only problem I have is with people who like to spam beams or Deadpool’s guns to range me. When I try to use Task to help me get in it doesn’t work so well so I end up switching to task and spamming them back to show them how annoying it is. Other than that the team seems to work fairly well for hulk, Projectile cover and OTG assists.

I approve of the team, though if you changed the order, X-23 can DHC Glitch into Taskmaster and make her combos really lethal.

I could see Deadpool being annoying, but even the best zoning characters have the same problem. Other teams you just gotta never let them get far away. If you’re fighting a zoner, never end a combo with a Gamma Tsunami and just stay in their face as much as possible.

I’ve been using Hulk (Y)/Dante (A)/Akuma (B). I’ve been having some success even against Phoenix teams…

Is there a more Anti-Phoenix team with Hulk?

My team is Hulk, Dante, Doom and I think it does very well against Phoenix. Hulk is pretty much the weakest against her, but he can lead to some scary mix-ups with Dante.

[]Gamma Crush DHC Devil Trigger - if Gamma Crush hits, she’s dead. If it gets blocked, wait until the massive explosion and then use it to mask a teleport or c.:l: mix-up. Works well against Dark Phoenix too because of the invincibility
[
]Gamma Quake DHC Devil Trigger - 50/50 on whether or not you’ll teleport behind her, though it sort of requires a corner situation to use
[/LIST]

For the most part, I think nearly any Hulk team is anti-Phoenix. If Hulk is the one snapping her in, and if he still has two assists, there’s not much she can do. Airdashing gets punished by j.S. Teleporting may get punished by assists. Air fireballs lose to Gamma Crush. Staying grounded gets her command grabbed.

Don’t forget that holding up+back gets her air thrown, Gamma Wave L, Gamma Crush (lethal). I usually go for the j.:s: to catch the air dash and then just keep the pressure until I guess right.

LOL my team is so anti Phoenix. True story…

Played this guy who ran Sent/Morrigan/Phoenix. He likes to go to the corner and turtle like hell. So everytime I got a hit (everytime Sent did his J. S and I did st. M) I snapped him out for Phoenix. Everytime I snapped him out, the guy already had like 3.5-4 meters. So I had literally one shot to kill phoenix. I call Dante’s Jam Session when phoenix came out every single game.

The first time, she got hit by it, so I killed her in a combo. The second time, she blocked it and I anti-air grabbed her for the kill lol. The third time, she blocked it, but she was too low to get AA grabbed, so instead I just M grabbed her and he fell for it lol. The 4th time, she dashed upwards after block jam session and I caught her with a J. H, J. S and then killed her. the 5th time, Dark Phoenix came out, and I did that mixup that Liquid told me about. Gamma Quake DHC Devil Trigger. Free as fuck.

Long story short, Hulk/Dante (a) is that shizz…

No one answered so I’ll ask again seeing as I run Hulk and Deadpool both

Use Katanarama to set up unblockable/hard to block attacks. You won’t have it for OTG but life goes on.
For nonassist related you should check out the rest of this thread and the two big posts one by me and one by Astaroth with lots of Hulk tips.

Are you calling it while doing a Crossover Jump S?

A lot of people think Katanarama hits low, or they confuse it with Quickwork.

Anyway, stick with Quickwork if you want unblockables.

How does anyone really use high/low unblockables anyway? I run X-23/Hulk/Akuma, and in theory I could do one with jS while calling X-23, but it never works. Nobody stays on the ground at that range when Hulk jumps, and all assists have slow startup, so I don’t get why anyone would just stand there or crouch block and allow themselves to be hit. Most high/low mixups come when you have your opponent locked down with an assist, but you obviously can’t do that if the assist itself is part of the mixup.

People jump because jumping is really strong in this game (almost too strong). The best opportunity to do it is on an opponent’s roll-away. You dash-jump and call the low assist, while using j.H or j.S. You also have to make your opponent fear jumping by using air grabs or command grabs.

I figured. I was using Quickwork but I figure being able to take an opponent out with one combo is more useful so Katanarama it is. Dropping Deadpool is not an option, he’s my fav. I am debating pickinh up Iron man as the anchor. The beam is great for zoning and getting in. The beam does interrupt the ground bounce of Standing H, or Jumping S :(. Though since they’re grounding you can probably go for a tornado throw. Time to hit the lab! What do you guys think of that team? Deadpool (Katanarama) Hulk (Wave) Ironman (Beam). Deadpool starts because he can build decent meter playing keep away until Hulk has a chance to get in and wreck shop.

I’d switch Deadpool’s and Hulk’s position. If Deadpool dies (which he will), Hulk has no otg.

Ironman is meh, even as an anchor. There are better choices, but it’s your call.
