I practiced this for about 3 hours last night - this is by far the hardest thing I have tried to learn in this game. Although I have long bouts of frustration wondering why I am not hitting it when I look at the inputs and it looks identical to old Takehiko in the vids, I am thankfully making progress. For example, last night I hit 6 full combo dash Ultras from P2 side in a row…to then go on a run of not getting it for another 20-30 attempts lol. In all fairness I reckon I am up to 20% success rate from pretty much 0 at the weekend on P2 side. Added to progress is I am now starting to hit it from P1 side, but not even close to as often as P2…but progress nevertheless.
@ Jcool813 - your tutorial video has helped alot. The bit about waiting for Dee Jay to transition to neutral standing (just before crouch) after the EX MGU is vital imo before you dash. I think when you go too soon and don’t wait for this transition, something about the end of the animation kills whatever charge you have, even though you should have enough. Go too soon and you dash almost because you buffered it into the end of the EX MGU and therefore all your charge is dead. If you wait (and it actually feels like you are leaving it too late imo) that you get the timing and as long as you have a smooth dash SPD motion, it comes out like a treat. Only other thing I find helps is getting the dash from db by letting the stick go to neutral as I see Dee Jay in neutral standing position before doing dash SPD as one motion.
This technique is solid as you like and I have moments I think I cannot be bothered, but keep coming back for more punishment as I think this is viable with enough practice and tenacity. I completely take my hat off to Takehiko for having this down so effectively. I am no Takehiko, but I can’t complain with the fact I can even do this in my second week of playing Dee Jay…even if it is the odd run of success in training mode for now.
ive gotten it the most consistently (which isnt saying much) by doing almost a full circle motion after the dash
so my whole input looks like this:
:db:(Charge):r::r::df::d::l::ub::u::uf:+:3p:
Im guessing it works for me cause it works all at a nice speed.
Hey guys just a new guy coming to give thx here. This combo makes deejay a lot more fun for me now. I can’t dash U2 but I can walk U2 with little to now problem and yes i’m on a sf4 pad.
When I ex-mgu I just wait a split second then walk forward and spd and it works! The length of time you can walk forward and hold a charge is seriously long!
Start like this…charge :db: then :hcb::ub: :3p: and once you have that just keep increasing the amount of time you hold :r: before finishing the spd motion. Once you see how far you can walk and hold a charge it gets easier.
You have to find a natural way to dash quickly and finish the rest of the motion naturally. Just keep trying. I got it during my first test run but it took me a month to understand what was working and how it was working. I feel like my tutorial would help save you a lot of time and effort.
Something I’ve learned trying to do this dash U2 as well…
Firstly, Takehiko331 is actually Akimo, a Honda player from SF4. He’s actually a friend of a friend in Japan, and I asked him to ask Akimo what the trick to it is…
Unfortunately, he responded with the answer that there is no SURE way to do it, only to practice it and “get a feel for it” was the best way he put it… he also admit that he can’t do it every time offline as well…
Hope this helps… and hoping for a breakthrough strategy :shake:
great to hear akimo/takehiko say that. i thought he had something we didn’t know. That sucks. There is a sure way to do every combo for every character except my own LOL
i have a video that has helped a couple of deejay players that post and maybe more that have not posted.
Jcool’s video has helped me land it but I still can’t do it consistently. Not to mention I just love U1 too much when not playing competitively. I need to buckle down and practice it sooner or later
After days of training I’m finally able to do it with some consistency. The key is to pay attention to Dee Jay’s dash. The second you see his back foot touch the ground and stop moving that when you should be pressing the 3 punches. If you do the motion right it will come out every time.
Before it would always feel like I was doing it right but I wasn’t because his dash kinda looks like it’s over before it really is. Only when his back foot is flat on the ground is when the animation is finished. To practice I kept dashing and keep pressing 3P or just jab the instant he lands so you can get the feel for when you need to be pressing the buttons.
For some reason I’m the opposite of most people way better on the right side than I am on the left side at this. The only thing is though on the right side I still mess up the dash sometimes from the downback position. On the left side it’s the actual motion I mess up most of the time. Either I don’t hit the downback when I’m swinging the stick around or I don’t hit upback. I’m gonna try to do the SPD motion foward which I just saw in another thread on the left side to see if that helps.
Before tonight I couldn’t do it from the left side at all but I just did it a couple of times before I got off. I also beasted from the right side. I can pretty much do dash ultra by itself 90% of the time now on the right, but EX MGU into ultra depends on if I get the dash or not and also I might mess up the timing trying not to mess up the dash.
Walk ultra is hard as hell for me though! I’ve only landed it a couple of times. I don’t know how you guys say it’s easier than dash ultra especially after EX MGU. I either walk too far and lose charge or don’t walk far enough. Also I mess up the motion a lot too even on the right side sometimes. It’s weird but I haven’t been practicing it as much as dash ultra so that’s why.
Anyway I hope this helps at least to let you know if your doing it too fast or too slow since you now know the exact timing. Oh yea and it’s kinda hard to pay attention to his back foot after the MGU launches them but you can still tell when he stops and straightens up and if you just practice it without the MGU you’ll get a feel for it.
I think I’m giving up on this shit. I can’t even do a dash U2 by itself. It’s been months and I’m not going to kill myself over it. I pull off Guiles dash U1 close to 100%. I have problems with DJ’s dash U1, but I pull of Chun Li’s dash U1 all the time. I guess I’ll be happy being a subpar player
I’m right with you man. I can’t even do the walk in U2 after MGU. I can do it any other time. All other dash Ultras are doable. This one isn’t worth picking U2. I’ll take my lil crap damage w/ U1.
it is hard to do. i can do all the trials in the game, but this was hard for me. I’m sure there are people on here with far better execution than my own who haven’t done dash ultra once.
Don’t give up on it. just keep putting in work til you get a breakthrough.
