the timing is really tight for some characters tho. if you learn dash none of that matters. i can’t walk u2 guile but i can dash u2 him.
Does dash u2 work on Cody, Adon, Dudley and Honda? Modinside said dash doesn’t work on them.
haven’t tried dash on them but honestly i went on vacation and can’t do dash U2 anymore. i have to start at square 1 again =/ i’ll test it out tho.
There doesn’t seem any way to make this a “practical” set up. It sucks that DeeJay needs to do this. I mean, U2 as an AA is good, but when on offense, you need to combo that shit up. With no solid, consistent way of doing this, is it really worth it? I would love to have this be part of my arsenal, but I just can’t see myslef spending countless hours practicing this when I could be playing. URG!!!
Maybe it’s jus’ me…?!
If you’re serious about playing Dee Jay, you need to hit up training mode and perfect that shit son.
As Dee Jay player’s we need everything we can get to win. So fuck not having it as part of your arsenal because “it’s inconsistent” or “impractical”
If you want to do well with Dee Jay, you need to be able to do it reliably no questions asked.
LoL, I agree actually. DeeJay needs this! But it just burns me that this is what shit has to be done to get good. Never had to hit up Training mode for A2?! Just old man rant…
But, I’m in there trying this shit out tho’. Want to be a better DeeJay in SSF4…
Have been trying Dee Jay for the last 2 days. Amassed 5000 BP already in 48 hours lol. I think he is pretty sweet tbh. I think if someone can do this U2 setup as well as Akimo consistency wise, then it takes Dee Jay from the mid level character he is now to upper mid easily. The Ultra does huge damage and hit confirming into EX MGU is pretty easy. Still going to say though that they should have just let his first Ultra work the way it did in the Beta with nerfed damage or let him juggle like Rog with it properly, but again with nerfed damage if you juggle it as opposed to landing it straight.
Facing left I have get this about 5-10% so far (I get the dash Ultra, but timing means it whiffs). Facing right I don’t seem to get it at all right now.
Ok I just spent a good hour straight just trying this. I usually hit training and try this about 10 minutes and move on, decided to keep at it tonight and was able to do it multiple times. I kept getting dash jump back fierce, dash standing fierce and sometimes just a dash. The just a dash was me doing the motion too soon (finishing the motion before he was done dashing) and the jump back fierce and standing fierce was me not doing the motion fast enough. What I did was first figure out when exactly to dash after the ex mgu. I started to dash just after the last hit of the ex mgu, not right after but a slight slight delay and then dash. Then do the motion for u2 fast enough where I’m hitting ppp right when the dash was done. If I hit ppp before the dash was done I just stood there. If I did it a little late I got standing or jump back fierce. After a few times hitting it it was muscle memory taking over. I took some pointers from the vids as well but I still had to figure it out my way. It’s hard to replicate others as opposed to finding out a way that works for you, I hope that makes sense.
Anyway, I’m gonna do more practicing on ryu since I know it works on him and then try on adon, Honda, Dudley and Cody (these are the characters modinside said dash u2 doesn’t work on).
edit: here’s the geom modinside youtube vid i was talking about in his description he says walk nor dash worked on cody, honda, dudley and adon. but i just tried it on these 4 characters and it worked. now i just need to get this going in my actual matches. i can hit the mgu dash u2 about 33% (1 outta 3 tries) but about 55% on the p2 side and like 20% on the p1 side.
I tried this a bit this weekend and could not for the life of me get the dash to ultra to work. I’m thinking my forward dash is too slow and it’s canceling out the charge, but I’m not sure. So my question to those who are hitting it consistently is what happens when you don’t land it? More specifically, are you whiffing the ultra (U2 comes out, but nothing connects), or is it simply not coming out? The two things that consistently happen for me when I attempt it is that I think if I press the buttons too fast, nothing comes out after the dash. No whiffed s.hp, just comes out of dash and does nothing. The other thing that happens to me is that I end up jumping backward with a j.hp.
For those who are landing it, is it more total whiff/blank dash, or are you jumping back with the j.hp?
@xpulse: Can you walk u2 consistently? When I was just dashing and not doing anything I believe I was finishing the motion and hitting PPP too fast (finishing basically before Dee Jay finished his dash) and when I would get standing fierce I think my motion was incorrect and jump back fierce it was just too late.
When I do get the ex mgu to U2 and it doesn’t land it just whiffs (dashed too slow).
Yeah, I can hit the walk U2 90+% on the “normal” characters/timing. It sounds like I have to slow down my attempt and finish the motion after my dash is finished. I main Gief, so maybe my spd motion is too fast for this move. Reading previous comments in this thread, it sounds like this may be true. Will try it out later!
A lot of people have to realise this isnt really viable on pad aswell.
I’d also like to state that I cannot do walk ultra. I cannot walk enough for it to connect without losing charge, there are lots of tips in this thread, but I’m wondering if there is something i’m crucially missing.
I’m doing:
EX MGU , and as soon as i stop flashing yellow i tap forward then finish the motion. I do walk a little, but nowhere near enough to connect, even on bigger characters such as T.Hawk.
^ I’m here to help
don’t walk as soon as he stops turning yellow. walk when his arm is retracting and he is turning back into a normal position.
ah fair enough.
Jcool, are you playing Dee Jay competitively, or for fun, I really hope your answer is the former.
Man I’ve been able to do walk up, ultra for a while but still have not been able to do dash, ultra even once. I’ve tried all the tricks in this thread but still nothing. According to the inputs I’m doing it right, so my issue must be timing but I just haven’t been able to find it. After the dash I’ll either jump back and attack, just attack or nothing.
Honestly i really wish i could go to training mode with everyone who can’t do it and help them, but there is no online endless training mode.
Help me help you.

[*]Can you do ex mgu by itself?
[*]Can you do dash Ultra by itself? (no ex mgu)
[*]Have you watched the ex mgu animation to see when deejay stops moving and goes back to a neutral position? And when holding down back throughout the ex mgu its the frames before deejay goes to a crouching position
if yes to the first two and no to the last watch 1:00 of this video. I do an ex mgu but slow the video down 50 percent so the viewer can see the input and the dash timing

this was my whole guide when i finally got my ex mgu break through

Honestly it took me weeks of relentless training. if you’re not getting it change something every attempt.
If you get it once try to reproduce your procedure.
I have a video trying to explain ex mgu dash ultra in the video thread and on my youtube channel. I’ll gladly make another video provided this video does nothing for you.
I do play competitively i can link you to 3 of my tournament matches. The best match and my best match of that tournament wasn’t recorded by DSP =/
I want to take a break though because i keep losing to balrog players. . .terrible balrog players that only know to combo to headbutt and do dash straight because its too safe

^ sorry about that i’m trying really hard to explain this so everyone can do this. That is my goal right now for DeeJay and SSFIV. I’ve helped myself time to help others.
If you need help with ex mgu > dash > U2 post a video response to my tutorial
Jcool813 - Great tutorial video. I am going to give a go tonight. I think I have 2 problems right now as when I look at the inputs, they could not be more perfect motion wise, so it is clearly a timing thing:
-
definately dashing too early and your “wait for DJ to go to neautral standing” should help.
-
I am not executing the instant SPD fast enough - I always end with jump back fierce if and when I fail.
The wierd thing , that I cannot explain, is you have to “feel” the motion. I some how know everytime when this is going to come out and I have done it properly. All the other times I am left hoping I got it right, but know I got the timing wrong before the end of the motion.
As a few have said already, althought this very tough, if you have any aspirations to take Dee Jay far you need this in your locker. It is not that you won’t compete without it, but it the threat of linking 2 c.lp’s into EX MGU jsut makes your mix up game so much more frightening from anywhere on screen.
Yea that feeling when you know you’ve got it before it comes out. I did it 3 times in a row and was in awe b/c I felt all the combos coming out.
