Dee Jay Match Up Chart

DJ does not beat Viper. In Ultra, she wins in the neutral

That I will agree with.

She did receive a fair few buffs. Personally it seems like a 5.5/4.5 to me…but what can I say, I’ve only been playing him a couple of months.

I imagine her cr.mk is the main issue or something?

I played alot of the viper match-up in the recent months and it feels like a solid 6-4. Viper cr.mk combined with Deejay lk sobat low invincibility nerf makes the match-up rough.

I struggle against Sakura too for the same reasons you do. The air tatsu makes it difficult to anti air her because your normals (mainly st.mp from that range) all whiff. I would suggest trying st.hk though its slow as fuck, but the most realisitc suggestion is just to down back and keep your down charge as much as possible. Move around with knee shot. Upkicks will beat the air tatso most likely. Maybe you can meat her in an air to air, I’m not sure which wins as tatsus in the air have pretty high priority so this might be the one time you bust out j.mp for its long, straight punch to reach over the kick. nj.hp would be a good move too maybe?

Not sure about her wakeup. Probably just toss a meaty fireball and work with the pressure. Her shoryuken starts up in 6 frames but DJ doesn’t have any meaties with fast recovery to beat that (go figure), so any pressure can be beaten. Best is to just bait the reversal. Her cr.HP is fucking godlike. Very hard.

Idk, just spitballing, Sakura is tough for me too. Her tatsu really kicks DJ’s sweep range and AA potential’s ass. Her fireball is 48 frames total so you could potentially bait that and jump over. Just not sure really. Lots of sakuras fish with cr.mk buffered into shoryuken, maybe try to counter poke.

Her air tatsu is an issue? I swear I’ve beat that thing with a Knee Shot before lelel. Down-back is hella important in every MU, but Sak lives off of jump-ins and you’re gonna need it.

And yes counter poking cr.mk is great, at least for me. It’s so slow, you can land a cr.mk from it on whiff easily and start some knockdown pressure, if you scare a Sakura out of using cr.mk she runs out of options for big damage other than a risky jump-in. I can’t think of any combo openers other than cr.mk/DP/jumps to scare her out of.

Then again usually I find it very difficult to “teach” Sakura players…they all seem nutty.

I remember someone mentioning Fuerte a while back. Jumped on ranked for the first time in forever and found a Fuerte, 0BP/0PP called pro_fluke or something.

The dude wrecked me from 2500pp straight down to 1700pp and I had no fucking idea what was happening the entire time. I obviously only had a handle on bad Fuerte’s.

not sure if your kidding but pro_fluke is a well known fuerte player

I don’t really pay much attention to wider known players, I didn’t know he was well known. I got wrecked insanely but at least I got a round in, haven’t played in a damn long time.

STOP GIVING UP FROZTEY. YOU CAN LEAVE THE JAY BUT THE JAY DON’T LEAVE YOU.

I played Fluke though he wasn’t using DJ, I feel blessed. I think I might have won, can’t remember, I think he was playing Ryu – can’t remember.

I recently got bodied for about an hour by a shitty Yun because I was unfamiliar with the matchup and I felt awful. Trained the MU a bit did some studying and I am doing much better now, but it sacked my PP from 2.5k to 1.5. I abused the hell out of my low PP though while it lasted. 2-3k players come in and clearly don’t take your ass seriously so you get a free round in. Hard to gauge a good Jay player at first I think because I can sit full screen and toss fireballs all day. They get hit by a few things, get frustrated and think it’s dumb luck on my part, and get more aggressive while I steeple my fingers. Yes…yes, disrespect my ass.

By round 2 I’m already up 1 round and they’re on semi tilt. Shit gets fucking serious fast. But that free round tho…

I asked for advice from a good player recently and they told me I play too pointlessly aggressive with DJ a lot of the time, since my game plan is usually to keep people out but I do their job of getting inside for them by going in too hard when I don’t need to. I didn’t even realize I was doing it. Now that I have been playing smarter in that regard I have been doing really well lately, I’m pretty happy with myself. Working FADC’s into my game and really, really trying to maximize my combos, but the jab jab jab short lk sobat muscle memory has been a bitch to break. Chipping away at it though. Been using great frame traps too and REALLY trying to use cr.MP as a counter poke as well as cr.HP. Fucking cr.HP is surprisingly awesome.

I got Guilty Gear fever bruh, I’m sorry…the PS4 is calling my name! :'c

His Fuerte is hella good, I honestly don’t know the match-up at all though, he did FSF blockstrings and I wasn’t sure if I could do anything between them, then got grabbed after like the 5th one. And yeah, I used to have high PP players fall asleep and mess around with me when I hit rock bottom points, I usually mess around too and make things fun.

So i think with upkick buff. Everything gets 1 point better. +.5 if lk sobat is good vs that char.

Except Sim. Fuck sim

You’re probably over estimating things. I thought the same when Blanka got a real reversal and it helped but a lot of bad matchups stayed the same essentially.

Blanka: Much easier in 1.04. Turtle that mofo, and if he knocks you down remind him that DJ has wakeup now.

Ken can punish blocked lk sobat with cr mk, even with hitbox nerf. You have to be smarter with your pressure. Having a wakeup helps but he still bodies DeeJay with WU setups. Fuck Ken.

Chun can punish blocked lk sobat with EX legs from any distance.

El Fuerte: I get to play ProFluke offline quite often and I can never learn that matchup. Might swallow my pride and ask him for advice though. I also played another high rank fuerte the other day. That bastard would get a life lead no matter how small and then run away the entire FT10. There was nothing I could do to catch him without taking massive risks.

Hey, good stuff. Thanks for telling me this. I’ll be sure to keep these in mind when playing Ken and Chun.

I had no idea Ken had a 4 frame cr.mk.

I don’t know why they saw it fit to nerf L Sobat’s frame advantage to -4.

Because Dee Jay obviously would suddenly be broken!! Kappa

Can it be spaced to have the cr.mk whiff? His cr.mk is ight but he can’t get much off of it at max range without spending bar.

Prolly best he can do is EX Tatsu, yeah, or maybe EX Hado FADC. Lots of bar.

I tried it yesterday around max range and I outside of the cr mk punish, EX tatsu didn’t connect when I cancelled into it.

Chun Li can block it and blow you up for free with Ex legs, even max spaced as mentioned above by BuddhaComplex. Don’t know if she can get Ultra 2 to connect right after because you’re pretty far away.

Didn’t test that, but she maybe able to after the legs. Which would really suck, actually.
