That’s why I liked L so much. He suspected Light to being Kira, but he needed to know 100% with proof to finally bring him down.
Now with Light, you could argue that the ends justify the means. He killed some innocent people, but to make an omelet, you gotta break a few eggs. He reduced crime significantly. But Light’s ultimate goal was to abolish all crime, which would have been impossible. There’s no way he could know every major crime that happens in the world. Also he wanted people to act without wrongdoing out of fear of getting a heart attack. I did not believe that such a tactic was morally right.
Ryuk said it best, near the beginning when Light was telling him how he was going to rid the world of all bad people, in which Ryuk responded with something like, “Then the only fucked up person left will be you!”
i’m also with the crowd that wanted Light to win. However, i feel that the way that Light proposed to win was not very “kira-like”. Kira calculates and makes sure of his actions, for him to depend on mikami to take care of that girl without any confirmation up until the confrontation puts too much error. Oh well, i dont know what other way Light could have won but I wish he would have thought it better through.
(for instance, L questioned everything, even the rules. wouldn’t his successor Near do the same?)
Also, Near/mello aren’t descendants or related to L. They are just from a foundation that raises these geniuses to solve crimes and intense sudoku puzzles.
Thinking about Misa, her life span was shortened twice already so she wasn’t going to live long regardless… if she was to die at 100 naturally thanks to her shortening her life span twice she would live to be about 25 oooh…
Yeah makes sense. Hmm, I wonder how much her… ‘fate’ was because of her own will and how much of it was because of her reduced life sentence in the first place…
Saw the first episode of the anime since I wanted to watch it after I read the manga. Sparks flying from Light’s pen when he was murdering people was too good.
OH shit, that penmanship rocked. It reminds me of Hikaru No Go, a series about playing a boardgame. Same artist that did Death Note! They way they placed their game pieces onto the board was so dramatic and stylish.
Sorry but Light could never attain the** HYPER COMBO FINISH** penmanship of Mikami! Dude was so freaking passionate about his work. **SAKUJO! SAKUJO!! SAKUJO!!!
**
I didn’t like Near’s comment there…it was just too black and white. There’s obviously far more to Light’s actions than being “just a mass murderer”.
I’m not sure of this either…in the very first episode, Light was a very different person…he was even very much against his own action of killing that biker guy when he was testing out the book in the store, but…his beliefs changed over time.
Also, remember when he lost his memories of the Death Note…he was also quite a different person.
Well, supposedly Jealous’s lifespan was supposed to transfer over to Misa (I believe this is one of the things that was supposed to happen if a shinigami saves a human) but they didn’t explain how much was transferred.[/details]
Because his actions were black and white. His ideology was based solely on his personal convictions intertwined with his god complex. Even the average person using the note would know where to draw the line between killing random bystanders because they interfered with a divine vision.
The writer of Death note was wise enough by allowing a scenario where Light could lose his memory mid-season. When that occurred innocent Light contemplated several times if he could be Kira, citing every time that he personally saw Kira’s actions as just even though it went against the laws of the land and that he would’ve probably done many of Kira’s actions if it was him. The only reason why he never delved any further was because he was convinced that wasn’t Kira and his memory was compromised.
No, someone who really wanted such a strong ambition to become a reality (such as really ridding the world of all crime and becoming a god of a new world) would realize that killing random bystanders that interfered would probably have to happen sooner or later.
Light said he would have probably done many of Kira’s actions because Light was thinking about those actions on a logical standpoint, not a moral standpoint. If Kira decided to act based on his morals, then Light (and pretty much any other detective that was smart enough) would have realized that Kira’s actions weren’t the appropriate ones if he wanted to win.[/details]
