ANNOUNCEMENT
Surprise! An announcement at the very end of the final episode of Death Note, given by a group of the voice actors and a pair of cosplaying shinigami, announced that a special is going to air to wrap things up for the show.

The special is going to air sometime this summer during Golden Time (Japans equivalent of prime-time, a.k.a. NOT at the usual Tuesday at 2am). What will happen during it? Presumably well find out what happened to all the characters after the final episode - the ones that lived, anyway.

That shit was bananas, what a great anime! I wish instead of doin all that shit with the CEO’s they woulda just brought near and mellow in and had that go on early with more eps of them. I thought near was a great character, I liked him more than L!

I loved Near as well. But I still like L the best.

^^ I really liked L too  To bad he had the odd’s stacked against him. It was like
L - vs - Light, misa, 3 death note’s, fake death note rule’s etc…
If he only had a little more time.

man i was mad at the ending not cause it was bad it was good but it was sad as the music was playing i was like fuck…its over OVER and that sucks only if light would of had the balls to get the eye his damn self then it would of be ggpo with a little mc hammer can’t touch this but all in all i loved it. good shit.

J U S T I C E!!!

FINALLY!!!

[details=Spoiler] Man that ending (both manga and anime) were like sweet nectar to my lips. I myself couldn’t contain the joy of seeing Light forced to get a grip on reality and show his true colors.

The insanity that he displayed in contrast to his demure demeanor along with Mikami’s disturbingly psychotic behavior showed that this wasn’t a mere battle of ideals but a fight between an insane murderer with a god complex. The absolute power he had made his already warped but unexposed mind open to all the possibilities he pondered- as shown when he lost his memory and tried to catch himself previously with L.

I think this was still L’s victory. Although I do have a preference for his methods he was smart enough to take precautions by investing his time in developing 2 geniuses to succeed him.

Not only that but Near admits that without Mello’s help he would be unable to achieve what L could do singlehandedly- had he survived.

My absolute favorite part was when Ryuk, eyes aglow, was ready to fulfill what he originally said in the series, with no abstract emotion, just his duty. :badboy:[/details]

Some theories I had:

-Out of frustration for what happened to L mid-series I devised a very risky way in which one might defeat the Death Note’s grip.

If a person rigged a vest or implant to induce cardiac arrest right before the DN’s effect was about to occur and “die”, then was resuscitated by means of a defibrillator one might survive (if they didn’t die from the self-induce heart attack) and beat the Death Note.

-I had another theory that users of the Death Note turned into Shinigamis, since when the human user dies they neither go to heaven or hell.

-The homogenity that Near, Mello and L share may not be for artistic effect (void black eyes, meticulous behavior, love of candy) but a trait shared either by some disorder (mild autism) or a genetic inheritance.

yeah L was the shit, its just he was so hesitant even when he had crazy proof, he would always second guess himself and, I kept wondering why! Near was like, bitch u Kira, watch I’ll show you!

Oh, I wish I could post attachments.

Swimming Lesson, Animated[/details]

best part of the final episode:

Light (referring to Mikami): I don’t even know that person!!

::Mikami’s reaction::

comedy platinum!!!

I thought this too, from what Ryuk says in the first episode.

Definitely going to buy the boxset for this anime…any information on when it is coming out?

:rofl::clap::rofl::clap:

Some one needs to make a gif of

[Spoiler=] Ryuk watching Light with his glowing eyes then signing his name in his Death Note[/details]

I think the saddest part of going through the series was talking to the fans who actually admitted that they wouldn’t mind being sacrificial accessories for Light. I mean wtf?!:wtf: Is your life that worthless that you’d throw your life away for one man’s superiority complex?

^^ I was just about the post that gif too.

Hmmmmm

The End has finally come to pass.

And here i was like fuck i know exactly what happens should i even watch 37?

36 is my real ending…lol.

Sorry everybody is/was an L fan i was in the minority wanting Light to be the victor.
If i was light i would have waited just a bit longer to get to near. Even if i had to go without the death notes for a lil bit.

I would have killed Mikami b4 he got there. On my way there i would have wrote that bitches name down.

Then hit near/nate with the knowledge you have both notebooks and The Real Kira is Dead. Please apologize for wasting my time…lol. I believe you are Kira and set-up this meeting to kill us all!!!

Nah, Light had to go, the anime presented it better for light. The manga was just raw–like its over you’re gonna die right now. No life bid in prison for you doggie.

Death Note Anime/Manga=1 of the best ever that i’ve read and watched.

Props to Mello i didnt really care for near to much because on the low Near was more conceited than Light–but Mello was like fuck this set up this and that–Yagami light is the target ill go get his notebook and Merc whoever!!

9.8/10–not a pefect score because well Yagami loss…lol.

i too wanted Light to win it in the end. I was rooting for him the whole entire time.

I have to admit, at some point I wanted light to see the error of his ways and redeem himself. However, in a way his pride, arrogance, and inevitable fall are simply a part of what Light is supposed to represent as a character. In the end he became exactly what he set out to destroy, a person who would assume it was their right to violate other people’s rights just because they had the means to do so. Ironically enough he was dealt with in the same way all “evil people” were to be dealt with in his “new world”.

It’s also interesting to note that despite Light’s amazing mind he was his own worst enemy. If he had not been so arrogant and engaged L in their little “game” it is highly unlikely he would’ve ever have gotten caught otherwise. I also believe it was L’s victory because without him all the information mello and near used to beat Light would never have been discovered. Heck, they wouldn’t even have known what the deathnote was, much less how to manipulate it in order to set up Light.

I’d really like to see this world revisited in a future in some way. Perhaps the book’s power falling in the hands of someone who is the antithesis of Light. It almost seems like a shame to leave the series off like this, but in a way it is to be expected. This series was quite out of the ordinary when you think about it, if not simply for the fact that it is told from the perspective of the overall villian who truly has no regrets (besides perhaps his own death) and is a irredeemable, heartless, mass murderer.

Overall, just good shit. I love this series and although I always snicker at all the action sequences that take place with ordinary house hold items (Light eating a potato chip, eating a apple, swiping a pen, etc.) I will always find it to be very interesting and worth another sit through or two.

Well remember, he only violated the rights of the ones he deemed as criminals (or people that got in his way of doing that, if they had to be disposed of)…they had committed a crime and were going to pay for it, just like a criminal would have to go to jail for a crime they committed…Light just did it in a more extreme way.

I never considered Light a villain…possibly an extremist, yes. But, in order to accomplish the task of cleansing the world of crime, you will probably have to go through his route. I doubt anyone here wouldn’t do the same if they had hatred for criminals and were one day bestowed with this book. The overall good of humanity might require a sacrifice of some lives. Or…are you saying if you ran into this death note and only you knew about it, you would never use it and instead turn it over to authorities?

I was with Light all the way.

Light killed anyone who questioned him and anyone who would possibly endanger his position, unflinchingly and unmercifully. He truly believed he was a god and was above error which he most clearly was not. Even if you only look at the criminals he killed he killed many people who A) Were not proven to have committed the crimes and/or B) Committed relatively small crimes that were not worthy of penalty of death.

I liked Light and to be honest I couldn’t wait till he killed L (although I missed him immediately afterwards), but the dude was a cop killer and took the law into his own hands. I don’t think I need to turn this into a philosophical discussion in order to show how fucked up it was that he acted as judge, jury, and executioner. Personally if I had the book the only people I’d consider killing are people who are proven to be guilty of a hanus crime yet are incapable of being caught/brought to justice. (e.g. Mob bosses, Osama Bin Laden etc.) I don’t think most people would take it upon themselves to kill thousands upon thousands of people without a second thought.

  • Jin

He didn’t kill people that questioned him…just people that got in his way. Obviously if you had an ambition as big as his…then you’re going to have no choice but to get rid of people in your way.

He definitely showed he was without error, except for the very end…he was definitely a good candidate for “god material”.

Well to him, they were worth the penalty of death. I’m trying to remember criminals he killed that weren’t proven to have committed crimes but I forget…

I really don’t think it was fucked up. He may not have agreed with how criminals were currently being treated after committing a crime (jail may not have been enough). He had the power to judge them how he felt they should be judged…his way of judgement may have been more right than the current way they were judged (not really saying they were…but in many places, criminals are treated too well in jail).

Well, this is a line that you have drawn between right and wrong usage of the death note…just like Light drew his when he decided he was going to cleanse the world of bad people.

So yeah, I don’t really consider Light a bad guy at all…but he definitely did seem to value individual lives less in comparison to his overall ambition. I wonder what would have happened to the world a few years after, if Light actually won.

I feel kinda weird arguing about this, but whatever. You were a big fan of Light, that’s cool, he was a very interesting character. You’re kinda taking it a bit too seriously though. I mean if you want to look at it from that perspective then why don’t we have government sanctioned executions of everyone that is accused of a crime? Because you need evidence or else you may be putting an innocent man in jail, or in this case ending his life.

I doubt if you were falsely accused of rape you’d want some guy who just heard about you on the news to decide to go down to the courthouse and shoot you before you even made it in the doorway.

lol For a “god” or a person of absolute justice he surely didn’t behave as such when he was in tight spot. Anytime someone got close on his tail he suddenly got neurotic and was willing to kill anyone in his warpath.

I think Near’s dialogue filled it in just nicely. He was a murderer plain and simple, he only sought justification to feed his ego of being “Kami.” Imagine dying because some douche hellbent of dealing justice killed you because you were a suspect in an altercation between 2 people you have never met? Or a random dude who get’s caught up in the intrinsic “fate” of the DN just to kill one guy. [Ex: Yagami writes that the suspected criminal shoots a random bystander (you) and the cops shoot the criminal.]

Even worse was that his feelings were innate, and not cause by the Death Note, the Note only opened the gates for him to do his “justice.”

I actually think Yagami Souchiro was the pillar of Justice in the series, every action he took wasn’t based on a premise of right and wrong but guided thought process of what was genuinely the ethical thing to do each situation. He never compromised his ethics (even to get his daughter he was willing to die) and was honorable through and through.
