DC Comics Thread

I’m not a fan of Sodam Yat. I feel like he was forced on the reader as a powerhouse. Almost a sentry type of deal.

Yeah, I had stopped buying and reading Green Lantern Corps for a while, and Sinestro War was the first time I had even heard of Sodam Yat. Didn’t bother me at all.

You don’t need to know a single thing about him, he’s completely devoid of any actual personality and you won’t miss a single beat in the story. He’s just real powerful. But he’s not really a significant character, just a supporting one, so he’s not supposed to really have one.

Which is actually even better than the Sentry, who is a significant and main character in all of the books he appears in. And not only does the Sentry bring anything to the table in any story, he actually makes stories stupider and takes things OFF the table.

Sodam is the living embodiment of willpower since he replaced Kyle as Ion isn’t he? I haven’t read GL in a while, but I thought they were pushing to make him important.

Its fucked up what Sodom’s parents did to him lol. He’s pretty cool.

Yeah the entity Ion is inside of Sodom instead of kyle now i believe

Thanks for the input on GL guys.

I’m also looking to get into The Flash/JLA. With the Flash, I heard a lot of great things about Mark Waid/Geoff Johns’ Barry Allen runs, and JLA I hear a lot of great stuff about Morrison(as always) and Mark Waid after that. Any of you SRKers wanna comment on those titles?

^ yeah id like some info too.

The last Flash related title I read was Crisis on Infinite Earths when the first one died. I dont know shit about the Flash from then on.

I personally enjoyed Flash: Rogue Wars. It was the first Flash TPB I read and really enjoyed it. Art was beautiful too.

Mark Waid’s best Flash story is The Return of Barry Allen. That’s just classic. I’ve read his other Flash stuff from his big run, though, and none of the other TRADES, BABY were good. Terminal Velocity, Race Against Time, Dead Heat, and Born to Run were mediocre. You don’t need to read any of those.

Geoff Johns’ run was pretty great, up until maybe around issue 210 or so, when Johns began integrating the book more into the rest of the DC Universe. There was some Crisis junk involved and it really made the Flash lose his luster. It’s still readable, but it just becomes your typical superhero comic at that point.

Anyone interested in Sodom Yat should check out Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds. Just a word of warning though, if you aren’t that familiar with the DC Universe you will most likely be totally lost. This mini-series has also been delayed numerous times, who knows when it will be done.

Final Crisis: Rogues Revenge is a good one if you are interested in the Flash. Its not too hard to follow and leads into whats going on with the Flash right now.

You really can’t go wrong with any of Grant Morrison’s JLA work. I haven’t read all of it but the first couple trades are great. I wish they’d give him Justice League of America now. That book has been a snooze fest since day one IMO. I labored through Meltzer’s run hoping it would get better but I had to drop it.

Just read Johns run until Porter leaves. When he and Kollins were chugging along it was the best superhero comic out there.

Read the first three Batman trades by Grant Morrison(Batman and Son, Black Glove, RIP), I thought it was fan-fucking-tastic, even though I don’t understand all of it.

News from DC from the Emerald Comic Con. Power Girl comic starts in May! Her breasts are HUGE… :lovin:

Oh hey I loved this part in the above interview -

"Continuing with the questions about New Krypton, an attendee wondered if Superman?s new setting meant the possibility of a new love interest for the Man of Steel. Rucka responded, ?No, he?s married.? When the fan tried to explain further why a love interest might be an interesting possibility given Superman?s new set of circumstances, Rucka replied, ?He?s married. This is not Marvel.?

GO RUCKA GO!

#1 was previewed in some of last week’s issues.
Really looking forward to this series, looks to be fun.

Battle for the Cowl #2 and Green Lantern are out today. Picked em both up but only got to read BftC

BftC

Looks like I was wrong about whose place Tim found. Wow. Liked the ending though, especially with Tim finding out that Jason’s true weakness really is crowbars.[/details]

I like how fast paced this series is going, I guess since its only 3 issues long (with a bunch of tie-ins though).

One interesting thing, Tony Daniel used to have a blog where he would preview art and show concept art and the likes… he shut it down. Why? He put in some concept art of the new Batman costume with the notes. Turns out he didn’t realize that the new Batman’s name was written in the notes. He deleted it from his blog, but the image had already been saved and reposted at a few sites.

There’s a link out there to the pic somewhere, but, of course, its a spoiler…

In other news, there’s a sketch of the Red Robin #2 cover at the back of BftC. It shows Red Robin and Robin…

Has anybody read the Starman Omnibus vol. 2 yet?

The first volume was fantastic

He accidentally spoiled the identity of the new Batman, that’s probably why it was taken down.

Seriously if you’ve been reading the Bat Books for the last few months, it shouldn’t come as a surprise who the new Batman will be.

I suppose everything can be a scam or misdirection, kinda doubt it though.

So yeah I’m not sure what is up with Detective Comics but Rucka will at the very least have a Batwoman arc in it, don’t know if that will turn into a permanent thing, like if Detective will turn into a Batwoman book. Could happen…

The Morrison / Quietly Batman and Robin book will be based in current DC continuity and not an All Star Book (revealed in an online Jud Winnick interview, no other reason to read it… it’s just him defending bringing Jason Todd back…).

I suppose that and JW writing Batman - BOOOOO - will be the how things go down after Battle For The Cowl. I hope the new Batman will be in JLA too.

Superman And Batman will continue with Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne, always taking place before current Supes and Bats stuff.

Starman is one of the highlights of '90s superhero comics. I finally finished reading the entire thing some time last year. Fantastic storytelling.

And the Rucka/J.H. Williams III Detective Comics just looks plain ginchy. I can’t wait for the TRADE, BABY! http://www.comicbookresources.com/?id=19983&page=article Just look at that art. Those layouts are great. Plus, Todd Klein’s lettering it… A sure sign of quality.

Get Secret Six #8, it fucking rocks.
…and I once again repeat; if you’re not reading Secret Six or Jonah Hex, then you suck.

But I don’t know any of these Secret Six characters :crybaby:

^Read Villains United my friend, then read the first Secret Six mini, then go on to #8 of the current series (though if you can get a hold of the first 7 issues, then read them!) and you shall join the ranks of the cool DC fans
