It takes repressed sexual issues to alter a costume that has remained unchanged for about 70 years specifically to get rid of the trunks. Yeah, they put some more lines on the costume and changed the collar… but come on.
IF only the changes were limited to costume revisions that are so easy to undo!
BUT NO – Didio can’t keep his bad ideas away from iconic characters and they are as a consequence actually becoming more generic under his watch!
It’s pathetic that I enjoy reading DC Comics from the 1960s more than the excremental drivel that gets published monthly now!
It’s pathetic that the better stuff from DC is generally pre-1990s, REPRINTED comic book collections!
DC will not improve its situation until A) they stop doing shared continuity revamps every 5-7 years; B) stick to a a gameplan for more than a year that respects the historical integrity of their main characters; C) leave the characters looking something like their iconic 50+year appearances; D) get better visibility for the characters beyond the animated spin-offs; and E) reassign or FIRE the current editors-in-chief.
It would also help if DC F) respected the intelligence of the long-time readers of its comics and quit gaming the situation. The revamp of its website and the move to Facebook is a good example of the manipulation and sheer inability to come to grips with older readers…
Didio is a bad editor… Has not had a good idea or executed a decent plan through his entire term at DC. This man should not be working in entertainment in any capacity, PERIOD… He has seen at least THREE revamps during his time at DC and they have been uniformally awful! He has not increased the DC brand recognition NOR been successful in keeping the characters consistent. The people doing the best jobs with Superman, Batman, and the rest DON’T work at DC Comics under Dan Didio’s thumb! What does this tell you about his instincts???
Jim Lee — decent artist but an AWFUL character designer. Among the worst character designers in comic book history.
Geoff Johns – Cut his workload to two titles and minor duties. He does not multi-task well and frankly is too much in love of killing characters and doing things for shock effect. His best work has been on Green Lantern but it also highlights his weaknesses, too. Does not seem to be able to breath life and personality into the main character despite some good plots and storyarcs.
^^^ Interesting post. We do spend a lot of time complaining about how DC is stalled on the tracks and how DiDio is an imbecile, but we don’t spend much time talking about practical, commonsense solutions that we’d like to see them use.

I could put some stuff up, superhero book (obviously given my love) but with directions I want to see explored. I’m in the middle of trying to rework the main character though since I feel my old design and name is a bit dated while the idea still remains alright.

To be fair, there is no real good way to say anything positive about Jim Lee’s New 52 character designs. They’re all piss poor.
I don’t care if he’s sexually repressed or whatever, but his designs are flat out awful. I suppose it’s possible he made such terrible designs because he was busy having TOO MUCH sex, but I’m not gonna do the research to find out if that’s the case or not.
Okay the only full Superman arc I’ve ever read was All-Star Superman and I’m looking for some good recommendations.
Preferably things that are available in TPB form and available from online retailers that don’t charge a fortune for shipping (keeping in mind I’m in Ireland).

This book is a beautiful thing, a great story that got me giddy for a return of one of my favorite Batman foes. The New 52 has been very kind to Bat fans so far and I am loving all the different changes or make-overs.
