Oh no I’m not offended or anything, it’s cool. I can’t really get pissed talking about comics. By the same token if I’ve upset anyone I apologize. Everyone loves Batman at least. Group hug!
Sure Batman and Superman have gone through lame stuff in the past. They’ve changed and evolved. Aquaman hasn’t really. Well he did for a while with the goatee and all, but it didn’t stick.
Sorry but everything about the character just doesn’t really work for me and lots of other people. The color scheme, the power set, everything. At least Namor is an asshole and never ceases to entertain lol!
Maybe Aquaman has land skills, but I don’t see him filling any roles others can’t fill on the Justice League either. In the first season of the Justice League cartoon, did you feel that someone was missing? Nope not me. Looked like they had all their bases covered. Shrug…
Johns loves him some Hal Jordan GL, some old school Aquaman and some Flash Barry, when the entire universe had already accepted Wally. He’s not the only creator who secretly wants everything to be like the comics he grew up reading. You know, there’s nothing wrong with reading back issues…
I’m sorry but I completely disagree with having to research anything and any character to enjoy a comic you purchased. Maybe all of the answers you are seeking won’t be in the comic you have but it shouldn’t be so complex that you have to check wikipedia.
Brightest Day wasn’t really that much of a culprit since it was easy to follow unlike some past events, but it really gave me no reason to care for any of the characters they focused on. Looking online to figure out why I should care about a character because he did this and this in an issue I’m not reading doesn’t really work for me. The writer should make me care.
Maybe dedicating an issue to one character instead of focusing on three people all the time in every issue of Brightest Day might have worked better. It’s a biweekly, use the time.
Take like any Morrison story. Most of the time I don’t understand who any of the characters are. Or what the heck novel he’s referencing because I’m just not that smart. With all that said I’m still able to get a gist of what is going on and still enjoy the story without having to google anything. Um, except for Final Crisis because he was doing double acid then…
There’s an old saying, Slott recently repeated it but it goes - Every comic is someone’s first comic. I’m not exactly sure how true that is because well let’s face it I’m not seeing any 12 year olds on Wednesday. Still if more writers wrote books with that line of thinking in mind well not seeing anything wrong with that.
Again it seems that DC needs a relaunch to start thinking that way, and I don’t think they do but hey if I can approach Aquaman as a ‘new’ character then maybe it’s for the best.
Speaking of events like Brightest Day, it has always perplexed me why DC has big events like 52 and even freaking Trinity where the big three take a back seat. Huh? Everyone loves Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Maybe people don’t care for whatever is going on in their monthly books, but most people still love the characters. Hell if Aquaman was chilling with Batman during Brightest Day maybe I’d hang in there longer then I did. Who knows.
