DC Comics Thread

Yes? What does a crappy wikia article on episodes I have seen have to do with that? It’s how her character acts and is portrayed.

We should just drop it, because 1: I don’t like you and 2: You post stupid crap that annoys me.

I don’t feel like being banned or warned over you, or your inability to read or understand what I am saying and implying. She comes off as an old style mobster in her personality (When not using cute face baby doll), she never accomplished much in TAS, only wanting revenge for her show being canceled and Batman cock blocked her.

In the revamp she was paired with Croc for a number of reason. To make Croc seem less scary, to give Baby Doll something to fucking do because I guess they like her, and to do the Bonnie and Clyde angle which was actually a little interesting, but the underlying suggestions were really disturbing.

What would she do in the comics really? What would be her motivation, and how would they make her a credible villain? This is what I ask myself when I see the original TAS characters, who is interesting and dynamic enough to be a continual threat to Batman or other heroes in the comic medium. Baby Doll couldn’t do that unless they revamped her heavily, sad but how I feel.

Harley was interesting, she had charisma and a great origin and made a natural progression over. Livewire wasn’t as great as Harley, but she had spunk and an interesting power set as well as look and she came over (But not to the extent of Harley).

The only other TAS villain I’d like to see in comic form is The Phantasm, which I thought was a fantastic idea. How Condiment King was chosen over her I’ll never know.

I remember that Baby Doll episode,it was good…you know ALL of the BTAS episodes were DAMN GOOD & ahead of it’s time.I liked the scene where Batman had trapped Baby Doll in the house of mirrors & showed her how she would’ve looked if she didn’t have that condition as he explained it to her & when she broked down, ran to Bats & cried, that was emotional. You don’t see those kind of emotions in cartoons anymore

Livewire is a Superman villian. She appeared in several episodes of STAS & a Batman episode & she appeared in an issue of the Superman/Batman series.

All this TAS remembrance is going to get me to pick up the series this weekend, I know our local Wal-Mart has the Season one box set for $19.99, going to cop that since the first episode has always been my favorite.

Also when I have the spare cash, get the complete Superman TAS from Best Buy. The whole season plus extras for like $44.99, good deal.

This made me lol. But I completely agree with your entire post. Mostly this part lol.

Baby Doll annoyed the shit out of me personally. I gave them credit for making an original character, but the underlying suggestions as you said were disturbing.

Or get it at Amazon for $35.99…

Or that, thanks for that Geese Pants.

  1. How could you truly know if you like or dislike someone, if you don’t even really know them? 2. There is no reason for that if there was a misunderstanding then you could just clear it up without such remarks it is not gentleman-like and Dudley or Dr. Tot would not approve. Do I do it to you or anyone else here? Really something so trivial shouldn’t warrant such an emotion. After all it is just two men debating a specific subject of a regarded medium. Also I making this reply even though you said you wish to drop it, yet you still made a post about it.

I could sort of see the mobster feel, but as I see it she resembles more of a person suffering from a bit of split personality and the little man’s complex. The slums of our world and Gotham show that a person can slip into the wrong kind of lifestyle when hitting rock bottom and the most desirable or realistic option seems like crime. In this world goody two shoes are drinking hard water while the rest are sipping champagne. After the events of her origin story she tries to get her life together and is doing so for a while, but things get worse. It gets too overwhelming for her and before she knows it she’s back into crime. They could choose what kind of crime she falls under: prostitution, robbery, etc. Whatever it is she gets mixed in she finds herself getting involved with something larger than the crime she was doing/thought she was doing. This may lead to a murder/several murders, a bombing, kidnapping, etc.

See? You have to open the sunroof top sometimes.

I really see no reason why a decent writer couldn’t bring Baby Doll into the comics. Batman’s rogues gallery already runs the gamut of psychoses. What’s another freak to the Bat? And I don’t think they’d have to change much from what she was like in the cartoon. Baby Doll was a creative villain. (I could see Azzarello and Risso writing/drawing a deliciously twisted Baby Doll…)

I mean, there have been dumber ideas that made it to print, like Hush. Paul Dini did his best to try to make Hush interesting. I’m pretty sure he could write some good Batman comics about Baby Doll, a character he created.

You just over explained how every run of the mill non-superpowered villain operates. It’s really not that interesting at all. It’s got nothing to do with “opening the sunroof,” which I will assume means you are inferring the contrary opinions to be closed minded. There is very little there of interest. She might make a good villain for Pedobear, but as far as Batman is concerned she is forgettable.

I would have said something earlier, but I couldn’t find a way to say something intelligently. It would have just been me raging, and I’m pretty sure that’d be a two week ban if I said what I wanted lol.

So the Babydoll fiasco is done, let’s move on to something else. Namely, what the fuck is out this week and if my shop will actually stock it.

The first Baby Doll episode was always one of my favourite animated Batman epsiodes.

Also the one with the Clock King, that guy was awesome. He should be in the comic books too.

…or is he already? I can’t recall.

Clock King - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Been around since the 1960’s, primarily a Green Arrow villain. That’s why most episodes of BaTB with Clock King has Green Arrow assist going on.

His appearance and motivation are drastically different within that episode though. Edit: Apparently a new one surfaced in TT that looks like the animated version, pretty cool, I don’t keep up with TT as much as I should.

You haven’t been missing much, TT has been pretty hit or miss since McKeever left IMO, and I’ve been enjoying the Ravager/Coven of Three backup stories much more than the main book. Hopefully Krul makes it good again, especially since Damian is there going bananas.

I got the second issue of Krul’s revamp, need to get the rest since Damien is going to pull a super powered temper tantrum at some point.

“Favourite” with a U, BITCH!! How pretentious. I’m gonna start spelling it that way.

Clinty, what have you been reading lately?

You should, it’s the Queen’s proper English.

I have been stuck in an unfulfilling comic book rut - I am going through the motions of dropping by the store every week, grabbing my pull list, and that’s it.

I still feel compulsively obligated to grab Batman every month, even though I have honestly not enjoyed this book for well over a year now. I do not enjoy Daniel Way, I just don’t.

Invincible? FAAAABLES!!111…? I literally cannot think of anything else I am reading right now. It is kind of sad.

Wait, you still have enough comics on your pull list that you go to the store every week?

Daniel Way or Tony Daniel? I understand getting them confused, though. They both suck, although I think Way is in his own tier for suckage. Have you read any of the other Bat-family titles at all? Batman and Robin by Morrison, the Paul Dini spinoffs… Those are pretty entertaining. The Rucka/J.H. Williams III Batwoman in ‘Tec last year is definitely one of both guys’ best works.

I’m still behind on my FAAAAAAAAAAAAAABLES!!11. I haven’t even gotten the 13th TRADE, BABY yet and I think the next one is set to come out very soon. Same with The Walking Dead. I’ve fallen behind on the TRADES, BABY and I’ve got to say it’s a shameful feeling.

I just read the first four Ultimate Collection hardbacks of Invincible, though. Awesome superhero series. It’s weird, but that and The Walking Dead are the only Kirkman comics I’ve ever loved. Everything else he’s done hasn’t been near the same level, not Marvel Zombies, X-Men, Marvel Team-Up, whatever. His X-Men run actually sucked pretty damn hard, now that I think about it.

I did just get the final volume of EX MAAAAAAAAACHINA!!!1, though. I’m about to go on a binge and reread it all starting from the very beginning. This is probably DC’s last good original superhero comic post-Authority.

I am like…10 trades behind on EX MAAACHINA!!!11, so I will definitely need to get caught up on that. What is Vaughan doing now? I don’t think I’ve heard his name in a while.

I actually only drop by the store like once or twice a month, it’s not every week. I think I have like…five titles…? I dropped by one week recently and grabbed Batman, Batman & Robin, and that David Finch Batman one-shot…and the girl there was like “…you must really like Batman.” Do I…? I hate Tony Daniel (no idea why I keep mixing him up with Daniel Way) and I’ve even been pretty mixed on all of the Morrison stuff. Batman & Robin was great when it launched and it’s picked up a bit now, but there was a big stretch of meh in between, setting up the whole return of Bruce Wayne stuff. Didn’t love that stuff either.

Batman Inc. actually sounds pretty cool though, and I heard Rucka’s Batwoman run in 'TEC was super duper, so even though I know nothing about the character, I was going to check it out. I have since…acquired…the story, and am looking forward to going through them.

I’m pretty sure the vanilla Batman book is now the crappiest Batbook there is now, but I cannot bring myself to stop buying it. This shame plagues me constantly throughout my waking hours.

It’s weird, Kirkman and Bill Willingham both are two of my favourite writers. I love Invincible from Kirkman, and obviously FAAAABLES!11 from Willingham…but I pretty much hate everything else they have ever done. Willingham in particular…I’m coming to the conclusion that he might not actually be a good writer overall, but just really good on this one book.

Actually sorry, I enjoyed The Walking Dead as well for a couple of trades…and then lost interest. But everything else - all of the zombie stories, all his Marvel/X-Men stuff, Astounding Wolf-Man - I don’t like any of it at all.

FAAABLES!!11 hits a less than perfect streak in the middle there, and it admittedly slows down a bit around that stupid crossover with Jack of Fables. Why are crossovers even ruining my Vertigo books? There is no reason for that to happen.

I’m slapping my knee in laughter as I imagine you, Clinty, with your stack of Batman comics (and responding to the girl at the counter with a French accent - “Batman, he eez mah FAVOURITE zooperhero!”).

I’m with you, though, on the Morrison stuff. Batman and Robin started off awesome with Quitely, then took a nosedive when Philip Tan drew the next three issues. Ever since then I feel like it’s been something I’ve been enjoying but nothing that I ever get excited about before it even comes out. I think I’d enjoy it more if I read the whole thing in one giant chunk. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before DC starts printing hardcover collections collecting all of Morrison’s Batman work in sequential order (like how they’re doing with Seven Soldiers).

Tony Daniel is pretty bad, but did you know that David Finch is also going to be writing/drawing another Batman title? You gonna add that to your list?

Yeah, I think the fact that FAAAAABLES!!1 volume 13 was the crossover with Jack of Fables allowed me to continually put off buying it. I’ve read the first four or five TRADES, BABY of Jack of Fables and it just feels like an average comic to me. Still better than most inane superhero crap DC and Marvel unleash on a weekly basis, but I just expected more with the Fables brand on it. Definitely doesn’t reach the heights of the main series and, if anything, just dilutes the name a bit. I don’t know how much longer I can hold out, though. I think I’m gonna cave in and get volume 13 soon so I can read 14 in good conscience.

I won’t hate on Willingham, but he really hasn’t written anything worth reading other than FAAAAAAAAABLES!!1. (I have heard that his '80s indie series from Comico, Elementals, was good stuff, but I’ve never tracked it down.) I tried reading Proposition Player and couldn’t get into it. I remember when he started his run on Robin with Rick Mays, I was pretty excited, then I read the first several issues and was like, “That’s it? Hurm.” What else has he done? Shadowpact? Justice Society? No, thanks.

Honestly, I don’t know what BKV has been up to now that Ex MAAAAAACHINA!!!1 has ended. Maybe he’s just relaxing for a bit, living off the money he made off of Lost, while plotting his next critical darling.
