DC Comics Thread

This and along with the other Re Circle titles (Archie-aqcquired heroes) has been canned and repackaged into “The Mighty Crusaders”… DC hasn’t done a good job of letting people know they exist IMO.

They should’ve let Kubert fill in.

I finally got around to reading Killing Joke which I got for secret santa, good stuff that was should have read it sooner. Shows a more human side of The Joker.

So good to see Quietly drawing Batman again and with a fight scene too
700 didn’t dissapoint one bit and i realy hope we’ll get to see Damain-Batman with all those new villians
So many nods and references
and you realy need to read it more than once or twice to realy get the full scope of this issue (like everything from Morrison)
This is how you celebrate an anniversary

So one of the great things about my local comic book shop is that for every 5$ I spend, I get 1$ of store credit. So I’m starting to have a little going and I decided I would stash it away and get TBP’s with that.
Can you guys suggest a few good ones? Of course Dark Knight Returns is first on my list.

Edit: On that note, how would I go about reading through Final Crisis?

Get the HC or the TPB and make sure it got Supermna Beyond, Resist, Submit and couple of other things that i dont remember ATM
and read it more than once, having some experience wiith other Morrison works will also amplify the ride (like 7 soliders and 52)

Yeah I was on the DC website and there’s several Final Crisis TPB, just wondering which one(s) I need to stick to when going with the bare minimum.

Superman beyond, resist, submit, secret files are the important reads for the story

DC Editor Mike Marts talks about Batman #700. Which I thought had an AMAZING story BTW and some good nods to '60s Batman TV show and even the DC Animated Universe heh heh heh.

Yeah I liked 700, the variety of art and story was cool and it was a complete tale in one book. I got Batman #698-700, going back this week for Brightest Day: Green Arrow and the TPB of Superman’s city of Kandor stuff going on to catch up with that.

Last week I picked up The Shield #1-9, and the Crusaders one-shot leading up to the new series in July I believe. I like the characters, and the direction of the story seems cool so far, but I doubt it’d have much staying power regardless of how good or bad it turns out.

HOLY FUCK
Peter Milligan is going to write BATMAN #703 coming september!!
and Cameron Stewart is going to be the artist on BNR #16 (kinda hoped that it will be Quitley but Stewart is the next best thing)

I wanna challenge Gail Simone and Daniel Luvisi to a 3S money match:

To the guy who’s looking for TPB’s anything with Secret Six in it or nearly any Vertigo title if you’re looking to stick to the DC universe.

Our good friend Alvin Lee will be drawing an issue of Birds Of Prey in September…SWEET!!!

Picked up Brightest Day #4 (really nice spread of the Hawks’ previous life) and the two Joker’s Asylum one shots (HarleyQuinn and Mad Hatter). Ran out of DC Universe Legacies again (but ordered one) and as I’ve been told the #1 of Batman Beyond was pushed back 2 weeks.
Oh well.

I Might try to dig up Shield then, but that’s ALWAYS DC’s problem…

as Good as the stories are THEY DON’T MARKET IT ENOUGH!!! and the art-style is not dynamic and no matter how good mostly sticks to the “generic comic” format, fr example in Marvel… DD’s art is sketchy, Spidey and Avengers are THE typical comic book format, the cosmic books are shiny, the Mutant style is reminiscent of the 90’s albeit with grim atmosphere, and Iron Man almost adapts a Photrealistic style… I mean Individual artists may have their well… Individual styles but Marvel has Editorial Mandate that at least positions these line-ups to look different.

in DC no matter how good the story is nor how good the art is, it’s just the same same art style, the only ones breaking out IMO are J.H.Williams and the guy who painted Justice League: Cry for Justice, but the Color and handiwork atmosphere is mostly the same…

still

Loving Brightest day (So far minus the gory parts) and JL: Gen lost.

STILL loving Booster Gold and AM wishing it gets a “Nova-esque art style” (maybe because it’s just they are both Blue and Gold) and wishing it gets an “Exiles” type of story variety and exploration of the DCU

well at least Booster Gold survived unlike the red circle titles and Magog.

Yeah, the lack of marketing sucks on it, I didn’t even know about Shield or Crusaders until I stumbled upon a comic vine article.

Picked up Brightest Day #0-4 to catch up, and I like it so far. Hawkman’s story is a little preachy, and Osiris’ doesn’t even make sense so far. But Aquaman’s and Deadman’s (Reason why I got it, that and I thought Maxwell Lord might have a bigger part.) are pretty great and I am loving it.

Getting Brightest Day: Flash, Green Arrow, and if they have it Batman Beyond this coming up week. I am finally getting comics on the regular and it feels good, sparking those creative writing sessions I gave up due to life. Oh and I might get back issues of Blackest Night, since non-ongoing comics at our store is 50% off right now and they order like 100 of each to get variants, because the owner is an idiot. Still I can get caught up in that and Batman.

Oh, question. Is the ongoing Kandor storyline in Superman worth getting into? I really want to get into Superman comics and I was recommended the trade that leads into the current war and stuff, but I was wondering if the story was good because this guy was just a tad bit biased in my opinion.

I’m waiting for JMS

Next week. It was pushed back from last week to next week (2 week delay).

Damn that sucks, hopefully sales will be good enough to make it an ongoing series.

And JMS on Superman? Sold.
