DC Comics Thread

They kinda/sorta did, but if you read 52, they bring it back. Which leads to the next big event.

I would recommend starting from Action Comics #844. That’s where Super-Baby was introduced, IIRC. The bad thing about Superman books(which I hate SO much), is that they go back and forth between each book just to tell ONE fucking story. So, you’re in for a bit of a hunt.

Which also reminds me, that I have TO FUCKING BOX THIS STUFF UP BECAUSE IT’S FUCKING OUT OF ORDER!!! FUCK!!!

Sooo, what’s their explanation for why the multiverse still exists? They just got down blowing it up.

It’s explained in 52:

This is all coming from memory, so if I’m off or blantantly wrong on some points feel free to correct me. Anyhow after Superboy-Prime did his damage to the fabric of the universe with his punches and the multiverse was brought back by Alex Luthor. It was subsequently smashed back together again, and doing so strained the universe to critical mass. The universe, to spread the strain, began to replicate itself, replicating itself 52 times. Mister Mind (who had grown to the point where he was devouring dimensions) then caused slight alterations to each one with the flap of his wings (since he is well…really fricken powerful at that point) and that’s how you end up with 52 universes with their own Earths that are similar but different from the regular one.

Silliness.

Cool Marv Wolfman interview, he talks a little bit about the straight to DVD Teen Titans Judas Contract PG-13 cartoon that he’s working on.

So Jimmy Olsen has rubber powers now is he gonna become the new Elastic Man whoa… The Monitors showed Nightwing on a screen as ‘one of the people that does not belong’ but they still didn’t explain what DC still hasn’t explained, how in the blue blazes did he survive Infinity Crisis! That’s what I wanna know already… hopefully there will be an answer down the line…

Ninja Scroll - Oh noos Jubei got a kid following him around! Jubei mentioned his father working for the government too, something not touched on by the anime movie and TV series. Nice!

The DC universe can be so complex sometimes. Earth-2 and the Multiverse. :looney:

I just picked up Justice League Unlimited Season Two on DVD. Was sure if I should post this here or make up another DCAU thread.

Just got back into comics again after many years, and I gotta say, goddamn I love the internet. I had no idea there was so much scanned content on the net these days. There’s so much stuff I heard about but never felt like spending money on like Swamp Thing, Conan, Preacher (and stuff I never knew existed to begin with like Transmetropolitan). Needless to say, massive downloading has occurred.

So I recently finished The Long Halloween (pretty damn badass noir shit), and I went into the Hush arc pretty amped because Jim Lee used to be one of my favorite artists back when he did Xmen. Plus, with what Loeb did with the Long Halloween, I figured God almighty must’ve given the hominus dominus for another badass Batman arc… Oh man was I wrong. If it wasn’t for the quasi-emo Catwoman undertones in LH and Dark Victory, I wouldn’t have believed that the Hush Loeb was one and the same… So my question to you diligent afficianados who’ve kept up over the years is: how the hell Hush happen? Over the top emo-drama with Bat and the Cats, a convoluted and impersonal rogue gallery gauntlet, and like 80% of the cast knowing Bats’s secret identity. What a terrible arc.

That’s up to you, either / or is fine if you want to talk about JLU season 2.

I’m just getting back into comics recently and I’ve always been a fan of DC. When I went into the local comic store the other day I realized just how many spin-offs and issues are out. Are there any recent series that are still readily available where I may not be lost storyline wise or what are some good recent releases to pick up for someone trying to get back into comics?

Thanks for any help you guys can give!

As far as this crisis multiverse thing goes heres what i read in the order i list (which i assume is how it went chronogically)so tell me if there is anything i missed:

COIE
identity crisis
prelude to infinity crisis
omac project
superman: sacrifice
day of vengeance
rann-thanagar war
villians united
infinite crisis

Also what is this 52 series? is it just the initial aftermath of infinite crisis? and this new countdown series that started is that after the 52 series? cuz i thought countdown already happened.

I reread long halloween and i’m confused bout who killed who cuz gilda said she only killed the 1rst, 2nd, n 3rd holiday victims (halloween, thanksgiving, and christmas) while dent killed all the holiday victims after them…so who did alberto kill? And since alberto was taking the credit of the real holiday killers why didn’t they show what he was thinking? cuz surely he had to have been at least a lil curious of who was committing the holiday murders…or did he assume dent was behind all of it? Dent said there were 2 holiday killers and bats thought he was referring to himself and alberto but dent said gilda when he was in the asylum so does that imply that when dent said there were 2 he was talking about gilda and himself and knew that alberto was not holiday?

edit: i knew gilda was holiday the very instant julian said she’ll be killing again because he likes it :wonder:

Yes 52 is the aftermath of the crisis. And Countdown is the aftermath of 52. Countdown started a few weeks ago, it’s counting down from 51 to 0.

Man, Loeb’s best stories are all drawn by Tim Sale. Sale is like, 80% of the top tierness of Loeb’s best works.

That makes sense to a certain degree. Tim Sale definitely carried a significant portion of the storytelling in LH/DV. BUT, any writer with his weight does not need to be carried by an artist. Gaiman’s shit is pimp game whether he’s teamed with Bachalo, Keith, Zulli, McKean, JR jr. or any of the less well remembered guys who’ve worked on the main Sandman comic over the years. Moore? Miller? I mean come on, a good writer produces good writing.

It shouldn’t matter if it were Tim Sale, Jim Lee or Roger freaking Cruz, the bottom line here is that Loeb’s work on Hush was trash.

I think Hush was okay at best but I won’t go out of my way to defend it or anything. To me it was just a big excuse to get Jim Lee to draw all of Batman’s main villains and the rest of the Bat family in one story. Like someone said in the older comic book discussion thread, it’s new reader friendly - I mean if you want a story that just has everybody in Batman so you could catch up to speed on things more or less it’s not such a bad Batman book to read. Plus Jim Lee’s pencils, which again is the main draw for me.

I sort of hate Hush in the long run of things because DC used it as an excuse to bring Jason Todd back to life, but what can you do…

And compared to what Loeb is doing on Wolverine, Hush is freaking Moby Dick.

I guess what I meant to say was that Loeb isn’t worth his weight. If you didn’t like Hush, don’t bother reading anything else he’s written. Like Superman/Batman… It started off decently, until the part where he made Ed McGuinness draw a giant, Mazinger-ish robot that was HALF BATMAN, HALF SUPERMAN. That was just jumping the shark. And then Michael Turner drew the Supergirl arc and that was even crappier.

And Moby Dick is boring.

Eh I just like Moby Dick because he goes into a whole chapter on how the color white is scarier than the color black (I beleive the chapter is called ‘The Whiteness of the Whale’) unlike just about every other person who deals with fiction thinks. I’d talk more about Moby Dick but next thing you know there will be a Classic Literature forum at SRK that I will have to moderate so I’m staying mum on that subject. :wasted:

Wow. I really thought you were joking with that Moby Dick comment. Unless you’re still joking. Pretty convincing, to say the least. You’re messing with my head again, aren’t you?

CURSES FOILED AGAIN

I dunno. Like most classic literature it’s boring and interesting at the same time to be honest with you. Hey now, your homeboy Patrick Stewart (Who played Professor X, who his student Wolverine faced off against Lobo in the DC vs. Marvel crossover - THIS POST IS ON TOPIC!) played Ahab in the made for TV Moby Dick movie so you can’t truly hate on Moby Dick right? :looney:
