DC Comics Thread

Chairhome’s spoiler

[details=Spoiler]It does make sense to bring Barry back. The way they’re playing it out, it seems that these new heroes do not belong on the regular Earth. In the latest Countdown, they had that origin of the Monitors and Donna Troy, Jay Garrick(IIRC), and Kyle Rayner were three of the heroes they have been monitoring for the past few years. I think Donna and Kyle belong on Earth 8 or something. It’s supposed to be the Earth where the new heroes belong and whatnot.

I can’t say that I’m gonna enjoy this yet. It sounds great so far, but I’m already getting used to Bart as the new Flash. Shit, what do you do with Wally then? There’s too much shit that is gonna have to be explained and we’re not gonna get that explanation. Damn you, DC. Your hype machine is too strong.[/details]

countdown 49

[details=Spoiler]
Did anyone read the latest? I thought it was awesome that they’re going to give Mary Marvel Black Marvel Family powers. Did you see the cover for the next one? Its awesome.

Also, Jimmy Olsen using other people’s powers? That’s crazy. But cool.[/details]

flash

[details=Spoiler]
Yeah, it kind of makes sense, but I love Bart. I hope he doesn’t die. In the latest Flash, he saw the Black Flash, meaning a speedster is supposed to die, but I was assuming it would be Inertia[/details]

dc this week

[details=Spoiler] after reading amazons attack this week I really dont know what to think. Black Adam destroys a country more than a thousand miles away from the US and the JSA, JLA, teen titans and other various heores from other organizations are ready to take him down, and might I add that JSA, JLA and teen titans are all based in america. The amazons have trampled over washington DC the capital of the USA and some parts of california, and the superheroes are taking their time?
Mary marvel part of the black marvel family? Wow she looked hot on the cover of the next countdown. I just have to add that I hate captain marvel jr, it is his fault that osiris went into depression, which ultimately lead to the start of the end of the black marvel family.[/details]

Everyone in batmans family has their own series except for the red hood. Nigthwing, robin, batgirl, azreal, birds of prey seriously what does a person have to do to get his own title. I really think that he should get his own title because red hood would be to DC what the punisher is to marvel, anybody else with me? Sano or anybody else know how I could suggest this to DC?

Countdown was fun and so was Teen Titans (that had Nightwing in it hooray!), cool how both books tied in together too.

DC books I read this week -

HOLY CRAP IF YOU ONLY READ ONE COMIC THIS WEEK MAKE SURE IT IS DETECTIVE COMICS WRITTEN BY DINI AND THAT’S ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT I’M NOT EVEN GOING TO RUIN THIS WITH A SPOILER TAG SO UNLESS YOU ARE A BATMAN HATER PLEASE PICK THIS UP!!!

Other stuff:

Nightwing - Ah, I’m glad the story of Nightwing’s backstory is being done behind the scenes of the main story via flashbacks! I was worried that it would just contradict all of Dixon’s Nightwing Year One (excellent book BTW) but no worries since there is still plenty of gaps to fill up! Book’s filled with Nightwing fighting, using his detective skills and him pushing up on hoes lol I love this comic!

Outsiders - Suprisingly it was fun this time. A cool break out of the facility story. Can’t wait to see what happens next in Checkmate! Ah man DC gets more of my crossover story money lol!

Countdown - Nice, I like the way they drew Ms. Marvel in costume! The way the Ms. Marvel / Black Adam thing went down was interesting!

Taichi was right:

countdown

[details=Spoiler]
NRAMA: Back to Black Adam - his word was “sorry?” Captain Marvel changed it to that? And he has the wisdom of Solomon? I mean - wasn’t that, or wouldn’t that have been one of the first words he said or at least a really likely one if say, he visited Isis’ grave?

MM: Did you read the end of 52 or World War III? Did you see what Black Adam is capable of? Still think the word ?sorry? is even in his vernacular?[/details]

Only DC book I got this week was Countdown. Man this is the first week since this became a full fledged comic book forum that I don’t get to talk about Nightwing. :bluu:

Alan Burnett on Superman/Batman is gonna be the shit. I was reading the preview on Newsarama.com and it intrigued me. The current Metal Men story wasn’t too bad.

Justice League Classified has been pretty fun, to say the least. Peter Milligan’s Kid Amazo arc has been pretty interesting, so far. I gotta finish reading the rest of my other DC books.

DC Solicits for September are up…

teen titans

[details=Spoiler]
Titans of Tomorrow return! Finally!

… so is that Conner? From an alternate Earth, I’d assume, if it is.[/details]

WTFHOW?

Spoiler

That’s what I am wondering as well…and notice the Flash is there too, Red Devil, and an older Ms. Martian?

Flash

Spoiler

Flash #13
*Bart is still with out his powers due to Inertia?s machine having taken them away.
*Val tells Bart that she needs more time to take care of Inertia?s machine to avoid it from blowing up the West Coast. She also informs Bart that ?there?s no reverse button. Do you hear what I?m saying? I can?t put the Speed Force back into you?. Bart does not mind as long as the West Coast is saved.
*Pied Piper comes up behind Inertia, knocks him out and takes him to the other Rogues.
*Bart buys time for Val by making himself seen by the Rogues and starts to run away from the area. The Rogues follow him and take him down.
*Pied Pier arrives with Inertia and Kadabra notices that Bart and Inertia are basically the same person. Kadabra then waves his wand and takes away Inertia?s needles that provide him speed.
*Inertia tries to convince Kadabra to kill Bart since they were there to kill the Flash. Kadabra looks down at Bart sand tells Inertia ?This?child. He isn?t the Flash?. This upsets Bart who surprisingly gets up and starts to beat on the Rogues.
*Piper notices that the door to Inertia?s machine is open and makes a dash for it, followed by Bart. Bart is able to catch up to Inertia and tackles him to the ground. This allows the Rogues a chance to catch up and they start beating up on Bart with everything they have; fire, ice, lightning and fear.
*Val succeeds in turn off the machine and letting loose the Speed Force. When she arrives at Bart?s beaten body she tells him to tap into the force but he tells her that he can?t because the Speed Force is not working the way it should. He then tells her that he is sorry for acting like such a jerk and that they would have worked out. When Val agrees he says that he doesn?t ?know what it feels like but?but I think I love?? and then he dies.
*Tim Drake and Liberty Belle are both notified of Bart?s death and a memorial service is given at the Flash Museum.

suprising? no

So that’s what actually happens, eh? I’m strangely unmoved and indifferent.

flash and Justice League

[details=Spoiler]
I’m torn. Bart is dead. I kind of have a feeling we’ll see him again soon though (its DC.). But in the new Justice League, Wally West and his family are back. His kids are older, too, I wonder if anything will happen with them.[/details]

Here’s a great interview with Kevin Conroy about his days as the voice of Batman http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=117640

crap

[details=Spoiler]I’m getting tired fo the way DC writers are doing these comic book deaths/departures…especially with the way they reinvent the character within a short time. In 2 years Bart went from immature to mature (Kid Flash), then grew up into the Flash, only to be killed shortly after what is my opinion a crappy death. I felt the same way with the death of Superboy, and the departure of Linda Danvers (Supergirl).

It’ll suck worse because many will forget Bart in the long run…[/details]

Thanks! Is there anyone that doesn’t hear Kevin Conroy’s voice in their heads whenever they read Batman comics? I think not. :cool:

No problem, man. I’ll co sign on the voice thing same goes for hamill as Joker and Dodd as Wolverine.

Yeah I use all of the DCAU voices whenever I read DC comics, they did an amazing job casting voices over the years. With Marvel it’s a huge mix of voices I hear from 80s and 90s cartoons plus some voices of actors who played the characters in movies too.

Hmm, maybe I’ll start a “Whose voices do you hear in your head when you read comics?” thread today or tomorrow, it’s always a fun topic.

I was suprised talking to girl at work who told me she doesn’t hear any voices in her head when she reads manga, comics or even books. I just assumed everyone did that. Different Strokes different folks I guess.

I hear voices sometimes, if I’m used to a certain voice for the character. Like most DC characters that have appeared in cartoons I hear voices for.

Another underrated voice was the job that guy from Smallville did as Flash for Justice League.

I can safely say that I was reading the latest Justice League with a smile on my face. He’s back. =)
