Dayton, Ohio. The one, the only, the best

Jordyn, I really thought you were going to take top 10 in ST/HDR. I was kind of surprised, but it sounds like the competition was pretty tough. I do recall you saying that you already felt like you were a top player though, or something like that. You’ll probably come back and tell me I misunderstood what you were saying at the time.

Lee, pretty sure you don’t need an account to read posts on dustloop…

Adam, good job in games. Marn is a scrub. Sorry I’m not ready to believe 4 is a good game yet. I’ll keep trying though.

Quan, wish I could play Marvel.

I’d say something to Jo, but he ain’t on here.

No, I said I feel like I have what it takes to become a top player. I certainly have never FELT like one, considering I’ve never been one :frowning:

Oh, none taken. I’m close to being able to compete at a top level, but I need a bit better execution (I was dropping combos like mad), a few more answers to certain things, more patience, and most importantly, I need to start using mindgames. I’m a fairly straightforward ST player because I’ve never experienced that kind of mindfuck before (i.e.: Damdai). He really made me scared of doing anything, then assraped me when I didn’t do anything. It’s very interesting, but now that I’ve experienced it firsthand, and I know what it’s like, what they’re thinking (they’re more than happy to tell people after a match), I think with a lot of work, I can break out of the pools at Evo. The next month of my life will be mostly STHDR.

Also, the lack of tournament experience played a large role in my failure. Rather, lack of tournament/casual experience against top players.

I’m also picking up Ken, Ryu, Boxer, or Dictator as a second character. I haven’t decided which yet. Damdai’s Ken is scary, but I don’t think it will survive west coast players. It’s a lot of tick throw mixup games, and that shit will get reversaled so hard. So maybe not that style of Ken, but definitely considering those 4. Either way, the bottom line is that Dee Jay sometimes just isn’t enough. With American rules, you really DO need a counter pick. Dee Jay has a couple of matchups that are just TOO hard for me (Ryu for one). I don’t like sitting in the corner all day jumping over fireballs, blocking fireballs, throwing fireballs at fireballs, etc.

It’s good to hear some good news from the Dayton Fam in regards to MWC, don’t know who all is going to Evo but I wish nothing but the best to whoever might be. Also and not to sound like a complete idiot, but um dust loops, I was watching some Daigo matches and he was getting like 60%+ damage out of his Sol Dust Loop, but I thought with GG’s damage scaling even something like a 12 hit combo wouldn’t do that much damage. Looks like I need to be schooled in that game as well.

Jordyn, did you write for gamefaqs in the past?

It’s good that you are realizing all this stuff so early, I still haven’t.

Jordyn just remember, a winner is you!

I need to start taking some of these games a tad bit more serious as well. I dont practice or anything. I throw characters in matches head first and make em learn the hard way…ass raping hard way.

I’d like to direct everyone’s attention to this.

Sf2 has always been a counter-pick game. It seems like hdr helped, but the issue is still glaring. There is something to be said about sticking it through with your character, but I don’t see how its possible here. ST is probably the reason americans insist on 2 out of 3 double elim lol.

Definatly learn two or three charcaters. Worst case senerio is you learn to fight AGAINST them.

This is completely untrue. All Japanese players stick to the same character, then come over here and dominate us, no matter what matchup it is. However, as I’m not Japanese, and haven’t been playing the game for 16 years, it would probably be best to learn more characters.

Not only that, but NKI and several other American pros generally stick to the same character as well. In casuals, NKI will play other characters (in classic ST), but not in a tournament. He’s all Chun, no matter what the matchup is. He beat Justin’s O.Sagat so bad 3 years ago at FR that Justin only picked O.Ken against him for 3 years, all the way up until this MWC…and that’s a hard matchup for Chun. Probably her hardest. But he did it. It’s possible. In HDR he plays Dictator because HDR Chun lost a lot of her momentum and tricks (:df:+:hk: not crossing up, new SBK, super not having as much invulnerability) and Dictator gained many (reliable reversal, neutral j.:mp: juggling, fake slide, etc.). Yeah, we spent like 30 minutes making fun of David Sirlin while playing casuals. Good times. Yo, you got dat YOMI?! OH MAN DATS SO UME!!!

Anyways, I just wanted to point out that there are people out there in the world that are talented enough to play just one character and win consistently with them.

I simply haven’t been playing the game for 16 years.

Six months is not a very long time, and I think I’m doing extremely well for the time I’ve put into it. My knowledge of the game is quite good and my matchup knowledge is also quite good. It’s just a matter of piecing it all together and combining it with flawless execution, good mindgames, and maintaining tournament level play all the time, even in casuals. I swear, it’s like going super saiyan, I just can’t keep it up past tournament time, and when the tournament is over, I’m exhausted. The main reason I placed so low in HDR and lost to a random (and Wes Truelson, who double perfected me :frowning: ) was simply because I really did expend all my energy on ST hours before (not to mention that I only got 1.5 hours of sleep the night before). And it got me a lot of respect, giving Sabre a run for his money at my first major. When I told people I’d only been playing for six months, jaws hit floors. I need to maintain that level of play at all times to get better.

In short, I’m bad at these games.

PS: HDR actually made a lot of matchups worse than they were for the underdogs. Shit is NOT balanced. For example, Honda’s second worst matchup is Guile in ST. When Honda gets in on him, he basically HAS TO do an Oicho loop to kill him or he’s toast. And it is fucking WORK to get in there on him–if you do get in, he honestly deserves to lose, because it’s THAT hard for you to fuck that up. Well, they took the Oicho loop away in HDR. And Guile can get out of the corner with fucking EASE (ROFL THAT FUCKING ROUNDHOUSE FLASH KICK MAKES ME LAUGH SO HARD EVERY TIME, 3/4THS OF THE WAY ACROSS THE SCREEN FROM THE CORNER FOR FREE). Even with the jab headbutt going through sonic booms, Guile can tag Honda with a well timed flash kick at the end of his headbutt, or a low forward, or the new instant overhead upside down kick, or a low fierce, or a million other things. Shit is WORSE. So stupid.

PPS: All of my games went to the third round of the third game. And most were decided by pixels of health (minus West Truelson LOL. He’s seriously TOO good, only OGs know about him too, wtf? Chris Rose’s eyes widened when I mentioned his name).

Wes is a beast, we play on Live a lot. Did he use Ken or DJ on you?

I couldn’t even make it past 10 seconds…lol.

Regarding Mixtape Vol. 1: Guys (and bitches, I guess XD), I’ll be uploading the rest of the mixtape sometime this week, as well as a re-edited version of Pt.4. The track should be ok to use and youtube shouldn’t ban it. For those that are curious, I used the same clips and its a mixtape track by Charles Hamilton. I’m not planning on editing too fancy or anything like that, but it will still be as enjoyable as Josiah’s version. I’m also going to provide an iPod version for you guys to download it to your iPod to watch it again and again. I have to edit it at work so I’ll be trying to juggle both (as well as a few other projects) to go ahead and get this out of the way

Regarding Mixtape Vol. 2: I glue my iPod into my ear all day listening to different tracks and I think I have atleast 10 tracks that I definitely want to edit to in the mixtape. If you guys have a certain preference for your highlight sections (or just songs to put in period), link them here and I’ll take a listen. I’m open to anything, jokes and all, so don’t be afraid to post an idea you think would be cool

I also want to start following up on the idea of combo/exhibition videos (if you saw my last post some pages back), so for those of you who wish to participate in that section of the video please post your interest in it and we can work out the details. I’m also toying with the idea of a photoshoot, player interviews, and of course, a preview trailer. If you guys think that would be something interesting, let me know. Let’s make this a gaming summer to remember because recording will possibly end at Seasons Beatings 4. Other than that, Quan/Adam/Josiah/Jordyn, congrats on your progress at MWC. I trust you have good traveling footage?

::EDIT:: …and yeah…I know Tekken 6 is DOPE :slight_smile:

LMAO

Kam: It’s Bob all the way for me sir, he even has a move that looks like a Messiah Kick :bgrin:

We got some decent travel footage, mainly the fucking traffic jam on the freeway and Chicago’s craziness. Also “No Josiah, don’t buy porn…don’t do it, no.”

Just for you Quan…

Though, I’m sure you’ve probably seen already. I’m going through my matchvids today is all…

Yeah I have seen it and I’m not interested in Hakumen anymore.

Oh? Who you trying to play now then?

Down to Bang and Litchi?

Ha I used to like that song when I was little…and stupid. I never seen that video until now tho. Thats some sad shit, Almost as sad as this…

Just Bang

Yeah I got you. A lot of Bang stuff to still be discovered I’m thinking…

In casuals, both (his Fei is also fucking siiiiiiick). In the tournament, Ken.
