I follow you perfectly, and you’re correct; it would be better for the arcade to draw in the GG / BB crowd on two separate weekends. I was just wondering if they’d actually show both times or if they’d just blow it off.
I guess that really depends on what the community ends up thinking of BB, and whether GG will stay around after BB. But for now I think I will take your advice and put them on two separate weekends.
So I think it’s pretty much the majority opinion that the ranbats should be free. I was speaking with Ghaleon last night after I did a podcast with him and Vega, and mentioned the idea of having the ranbats be free (more for the locals) and then a bi-annual tournament that would have average venue fee and per game entry fee (for the midwest).
I work overnight at a company that makes hair care products for women. I talk to europeans all day and fix their computer shit, and I usually get to just chill and do whatever I want since i’m the only one there.
I think Josh was mostly referring to fighting games, since he owns SF4, KOF, and Marvel on a console. MAME really isn’t the same, even though I love it and want to build my own MAME cab.
I don’t agree with him though, I think that the atmosphere is awesome and the venue is awesome in general. I like how Jesse and Jay are open to suggestions and they’re taking most of ours. I’m really glad a place like this surfaced and I will be a long time patron.
The amount of money that I would have spent playing all the games there makes it worth it to me as well. I played pinball for at least 3 hours the first night I went, so that’s gotta be like a bajillion dollars at least. So $12 to get in vs. like a bajillion dollars is a great deal.
DDR people end up smelling terrible if they’re there only for DDR. Plus it’s crazy loud. I’d love to have a drummania/beatmania machine though.
I pointed the folks at AL to the Tokyo Game Action liquidation, hopefully they’ll be able to participate in the Auction from in Ohio and get some stuff. They have a GG accent core board and a 3s board up for grabs, but I just read that the 3s board has a bad ram cart. Lots of stuff here http://www.superauctions.com/pages/2009/jun-6-tokyo-game-action.htm
It was good talking with you Ghaleon, i’m gonna acquire a tripod that fits my camera and then beast some high scores, I might even go after your sunsetriders score, who knows!
I’d love the competition SR is too fun. Next time I come down I’m going for another score either way, and it would be great to get a battle going. Once you complete the game, you can build up at least a couple extra 100,000s w/o too much trouble. Fucking Chief Wigwam is the big wildcard when doing a run IMO. I hope to see some scores from you or other guys on games down there soon.
I gave Jesse the TG submission FAQ if anyone decides they want to try for some in the future. I could prob do some interviews too with players for TG if some records get broken
@Yeti: Yeah man, every now and then I get the urge, but it’s only when I’m frustrated or something. Otherwise its not so bad, I just remember that I have 5 more dollars for something else every week.
I hope that Tokyo game action stuff works out, I forgot all about that. I’m going to AL tomorrow if anyone wants to come down. I’ll also be there Saturday, provided I’m not working…which I’m probably not.
Hey Chris when do you think you’ll come back down. I want to finally get some Marvel in. Also I know you’ve been asked already but whats up with SB this year man? I can’t bug Fugee. He is a hard man to find…
I don’t really go for TG records – it’s kind of a hassle, and plus outside of classic games it’s more worthwhile to make your own challenges (I was really happy to beat Metal Gear Solid, getting Big Boss, w/o saving, but all TG records is speed runs. Also for MGS3 I was working on getting Fox-Hound rank without the tranq gun besides bosses)
The only other thing I actually submitted to TG was Contra (NES) maxing out the score just using the rapid powerup, because all these tools on the TG forum were like “if you die and lose the spreads you might as well just restart”.
Sounds like Jesse and some of you guys are really good at Pinball – it’d be great to see some Pinball scores submitted.
Ill try to get more TG scores at Arcade Legends though, because playing on actual machines is a great feeling and it’s cool to rep the arcade.
Twin Galaxies? Im in the dark on that one. I usually take my sweet ass time playing games. I like to explore everywhere on my own and enjoy the game. I hate being on the clock in any game though. It’s ANNOYING!!! I see how you can make the game more interesting afterwards though by doing what you’re doing.
Last post before I dip out: Can anyone contact Josiah for me? Since he moved into his new place I obviously can’t get him at Aaron’s, and he doesn’t have a cell phone. If you guys hang with him at any point, tell him to call me and it’s about 3s practice.
Twin Galaxies is an officially Guinnes-sanctioned world record holding site. It originally held only arcade game scores as records, but has expanded to several different avenues of records, including speedruns, etc.
