Accent Core Plus just came out a few weeks ago I think. Should be copies of that, or used copies of plan old AC lying around in one of the ten gamestops we now have in the dayton area…
As for the rest of the rant…the company that finds that perfect balance of causal and hardcore play will hit a goldmine. Atlus is getting there on the rpg side, Arcs MIGHT have hit that with BB, but I’ve been looking more indepth in the game…there’s stuff to be figured, but as Matt is always saying, a majority of the difficutly with GG is matchups. 25 chars and each char plays drastically different from each other.
SF4 isn’t a bad game…it just wasn’t geared for a majority of the SRK crowd. But since it’s so easy, and there’ll be so much new blood playing it (and probably some backroom dealings…cause I know SRK has connections) people will continue to play it…and it’ll continue to hang around.
You know what makes a good game? Not being readily accessible to mass audiences. This is the counter-model to games today, but that also explains why I haven’t made purchased a video game since February. Appealing to big audiences just means more $, so they try and attract people with graphics, and easy pick up and play mechanics. Case and point every Xbox game out today practically hands you 100% completions on a silver platter. They aren’t hard, nor do they take much time. You should be attracted to a game (at least at a tourney level) because it has depth, and you want to some day master that depth. Good games take time to learn, it takes experience and knowledge. They are about dedication and skill.

I completely agree with that. When developers start to up the graphics, they kill the gameplay. I always tell Diego that those Smackdown vs Raw games are complete BS compared to the N64 versions. They make the game prettier every year and take out moves. Pretty soon you’ll just be watching another shitty episode of the soap opera wrasslin’.
I love my fighting games like the next man but I do wish things were a bit more complex. I don’t like to get my ass kicked by a button masher (even though it happens due to their unpredictability). However a game can’t be overly complex to the point where it discourages a new fan base from even making an attempt to pick up the game. I know what you mean though with your frustration man. I wouldn’t just completely give up the game though.
With those SvR games, I think they’ve begun to suck horribly from lack of any type of competition. They’ve been able to grow stale because no competition has forced them to reinvent the way they look at the game. At the time of No Mercy there were still WCW games being made, hell if it weren’t for WCW vs. NWO the base for No Mercy wouldn’t have even been around. Now they can just follow the Madden formula and not have to worry about anyone trying to take their money. And that’s even with that TNA game that came out.
I will play all fucking day. Try not to get discouraged, and feel free to ask about why something is happening. GG’s system quirks(and BB’s similarly) are a lot to know about but they are not hard to use if you have the knowledge.
Not to mention every other year Capcom, Arc, and snk came out with a game at the same time… Sometimes I think people assume that just because Capcom made fighting games first, they must make them the best, and then they don’t try other games. Not that Capcom doesn’t have a few gems, just saying that if SNK was first, we might all be playing different games these days.
I really don’t think BB or XII will beat sf4 in terms of sales, but at least they’ll be fun to play, and you won’t be able to win by mashing the same thing over and over. You know, say what you will about overly complex combos, but at least it provides a barrier to keep nubz out.
lol I don’t know about you guys, but I was excited to see new people getting into fighting games. I was hoping that my experience would enable me to easily compete with them, but unfortunately it’s not the case. Still, I’m content to let them have SF4. At least it’s better than DoA. Baby steps, and then maybe eventually they’ll learn what it’s all about. I mean it’s not like they took 3rd Strike or ST away from you. I know it’s frustrating when you’re like “this is the game you should be playing,” but I’ve held that position about Guilty Gear for years. I’m sure more people will get into BB than GG, but I don’t know how many of them will stick around.
Also Quentin, nobody’s going to ditch a whole game developer based on one game, just take it on a game-by-game basis. Megaman’s still good anyway.
Jordyn and I recently rediscovered JoJo’s and how much fun it is. If anyone would like to play me on 2df some time feel free, I find it very entertaining. I think Capcom only has good games if they are 10 years old . Also, I’ll be buying TvC when it comes out to the states, as long as they have Jun/Ippatsuman I won’t mind. If they don’t I guess I’ll play it at A.L. if you guys bring your set up. I wish that game caught on so they would fix it, it’s fun. Also, Saturday, does anyone wanna bring HNK? I don’t have swap magic or anything, so I’m kinda looking in Luke or Matt’s direction for this one.
Matt will probably not be there Saturday. He has things to do. He’ll try though maybe towards the later end of the evening. Lag screen TVs though. Still, I guess it’s not like any of us are pros at that game.
I don’t have any ps2 sticks or anything but I’ll bring my ps2 with HNK on the hard drive.
Despite the problems with SF4 I enjoy playing it, and i’m looking forward to jump to BlazBlue and KOF12. I played 3s, GGXX and CVS2 back in the day casually but that was before I had access to the games on my own, so I only played it whenever I was at a friend’s, so I didn’t learn much.
Plus it was incredibly frustrating to lose over and over again.
If you ever want to re-learn 3s and CVS2 now is the time to do it. I’m going to give Darius plenty of win streaks because I’d like to figure out this CVS2 game for myself.
Would you guys prefer to NOT play on the HDTV’s? If you want to bring your own TV’s and you think people would prefer that, we can certainly set those up. I just want it to go smoothly. I know there will always be something people will find wrong but hopefully we can do this fairly well.
I played JoJo’s 1 time YEARS ago and it was for only a few minutes. I didn’t like it at all but I didn’t know anything about it. Now that I’m older and much wiser than my ignorant past self, I wouldn’t mind learning it. I’m trying to be the all around gamer from MF’n Westwood, my hood lol.
