Dayton, Ohio. The one, the only, the best

^^^

That’s true. 3rd is just your game Adam.

The way you talk about 3S is the way I feel about ST, just for the record. So you understand how I feel.

But at the same time adam , oro has options for almost all siituations.

Jason Mid-air focus would kill so many scrubs… man that sounds like a delicious idea.
That would help character like abel… ( WHO REALLY NEED CHANGES to help his game) much better. It doesnt make sense how Abel should be able to get spaced out so easily by fireballs and DPs. Not to mention punished for doing almost anything in his moveset.

And I still dont know what capcom was thinking? an anti-air grab that doesnt even really AA? More Like Pre-Air… and not to mention it trades with jumping normals… which is so dumb BTW.
SF4 has horrible balancing issues.

SF4 is actually a fucking horrible game , I dont understand how if the charcater doesnt have a good reversal… they dont win… Like for exmaple RYU.

He doesnt even have to fucking move and he can win no problem. Not to mention for majority of the characters , they have to do actually do something… and guess what ryu directly counteracts that. Like prime example … abel…

Wheel kick -> ryus round house , hadoken and shoryu win.
CoD -? hadoken and shoryu win.
Roll -> Shoryu or throw.

I dont think anyone understands how this matchup is except for me because I play abel.

Adam you cant hate anything yet… until you play abel and see how hard it is for me. Trust me if you played abel… you would have been hated this game along time ago.Its Alex in 3s all over again. Everyday I play online… All I see is ryu after ryu after ryu after ryu after ryu , then I get GGPO’d in Tourneys by who? Ryu? Not to mention I think abel vs projectile glitch got nerfed. It seems abit hard to ultra the projectiles after that patch. I could literally go full screen before and now it never seems to work. Unless Im like a little before mid screen. Thats like abels only way in potentially. If I jump guess what happens? I get DP’d , I try to TT , I get DP’d , I try to rekka , I get DP’d. I bait dp’s , a second dp comes out and wins.,. because ryus all mash that shit.

Then what makes it worse is… Ill set up a ryu up in the perfect situation to where he should be facing the opposite direction , and GUESS WHAT… Auto correct fixes them and then I get fluked for the situation I worked so hard to setup. Its not just like that for ryu , its like for anyone with a good reversal and zangief… oh zangief vs abel… oh boy… I wont even get started on that nonsense.

Chun and ken ruins 3s for me… also btw. Super links off of almost anything… is complete bullshit.

Sf4 is the only game where DPs ever trade. In 3s you are completely invulnerable until attack is done. They also combo into each other, and have viable super-cancels (shoryuxxDenjin/shippu) unlike 4.

Meh, super links don’t bother me at all in 3S, except for Chuns low short…but that’s her only GREAT one imo.

I mean…everyone can link from a jump in, except maybe 12, though I don’t know since I haven’t ever really played him seriously.

Everybody has at least 1 ground link with a good normal too…except again maybe 12 and Q…perhaps.

Only BS link is Chuns low MK. Everything else comes out slow enough to anticipate and block/parry. But Chuns is almost balanced in that she just doesn’t have any good overheads…so if you’re blocking her you best be blocking low regardless.

@otter

Eh really? Meh, I guess I don’t know the timing of it then, or I just play crappy chars in 4 (Sak, Ken, some Gen, some Gouken). DP’s trade in 3rd a lot though man. I can tell you that…playing Dudley. Meaties will destroy a DP when they’re well timed, canceling or trading.

Now, you can CANCEL DP’s into whatever the hell you want in 3rd, but I really don’t mind that at all.

Lol the SF4 hate exploded. I’m not saying anything other than does anyone know somebody that wants to buy a like new copy of the game for 40$?

So true about the third strike remix.

3s is far from perfect, but it all seems to work out, and I love the metagame. Do people really complain about Oro lol?

Eh, it’s really not hate from me, I just realize it’s a different style of game.

I mean in general…of all of the Dayton players the most patient of us is Kam…and he mains 3-D stuff.

The rest of us vary different from wanting baits, to rushdown, to trickeration, to shenanigans, to counter-attacking, to lockdown, to mixups…

We’re just an offensive minded group (in more ways then one…)

SF4 is a strictly defensive game…same as Brawl is really. People who lean towards defense are going to lean towards the Shoto’s in that game, and since defense is a lot better then offense…well…

Aside from that, the only one of us who even LIKES playing Shoto’s is Joe…and he plays a quirky weird rushdown shoto so…he’s playing offense like the rest of us like to.

I really don’t think it’s a BAD game…it’s just bad for our crew in general…

/shrug
/2 more cents.

Why is it that hybrid grapplers suck in capcom games , but are good in KOF games?

Oh wait , I know why. They can combo into command throws… Something fucking crapcom needs to think about.

I can only imagine Alex/Abel/R.mika in a SNK system… omg… they would be fucking great.

You know guys , I hate to admit but I think quan was right this time… about SF4.

In ST, dragon punches from Ken and Ryu both have 4 frames of invulnerability. That’s it, which makes them an incredible reversal, but they can’t just throw them out randomly. In HDR, Ken’s strong (medium punch) dragon punch is completely invincible on the way up for some reason (lol David Sirlin). Reversal dragon punches are probably the best reversal in the game, but other than that, dragon punches are iffy.

Well, that’s not true. They’re amazing meaties too.

Ha there’s a lot of hatred for SF4. I like the game but it ain’t my favorite…or perfect. NO game is perfect. You just gotta take the bitter with the sweet… like a bad ass female that does you right but occasionally pisses you off at times. Just gotta deal with it.

I need to learn how to play some 3rd Strike on The Dayton Family’s level. I barely ever play the game but seeing people get down in it is interesting to me. I just hate the parry system. I can deal with it tho. I need to learn some GG as well. Like I said before, I got all of these games. I just don’t put too much time into them. It’s kinda hard to do when you play a shit ton of games (plus I don’t have people around me that consistantly plays these games).

Basically once Arcade Legends gets some of these games, or if we meet and play on consoles, I need me some good ol schoolin’. Get me some learnins!

I wonder when we’re all going to re-realize we can play these games for free in our living rooms…on better sticks…that we bought for that exact reason…

I’d like to get in some 3s myself, been trying to learn Alex and the learnin is slow. As for SF4, as an Abel main, there really doesn’t go a day where I question why I play the game, but then the thought passes through my mind and I smile or laugh because I guess in the end that’s what learnings all about. Surely I play nothing but Kens, Ryus, Sagats, and Akumas, but I’ve learned quicker and quicker to point out good ones and bad ones, punish the bad ones and do my best against the good ones. Just as a Kirby/DeDeDe main I see tons of MKs but can point out the good ones and try and take them on as best I can. SF4 has it’s problems, but what game doesn’t? I hear tons of 3s talk, but I don’t think since I’ve been reading on here you guys talk about the first or second iterations of SF3, mayhaps this is the time for capcom to learn what works and what doesn’t, care about the casuals who play for three months while the game is hot and leave or care about those that will be still playing the game years after it’s release.

Yes, but if your DP trades you get a super/ultra, or something else. I would argue that DP’s trading is WORSE for the player eating the DP than getting the standard knock down. Also, DP FADC Ultra ain’t hard, whereas DP xx super takes awhile to master.

Edit: Josh, I’ve always preferred arcades to consoles. Being at home and playing online is one thing, but it will never beat arcade atmosphere, and that’s why I will be going there a lot.

lol me and you are too much alike… abel and alex. haha , whenever your around dayton. I can of course help you in the alex learning. This weekend if you are at the arcade Ill be there… are there Tvs there where we can setup systems?

Yes, they’re in the back.

Hopefully it’s after we decide that we don’t want an arcade around anymore and don’t want the possibility to play new games a year in advance when they come out in arcades. Also, hopefully they get better sticks than we have at home eventually.

Jordyn are those all HD or do they have some crt TVs?

Also Ross, Ryu is 7-3 against Rufus, and for good reason. Rufus has to dive kick. You can’t be doing that if Ryu is spacing correctly. You can only GT his fireballs, but he can DP you for free. Just as you can’t cross him up with Abel, I can’t with Rufus, because of auto corrects (another hilariously stupid thing about the game, “I know! If you fuck up your execution we’ll install a mechanic to correct it so you don’t have to think about cross ups and correct it yourself!”) DP is too much of a cure all in that game, and 99% of the online community seems to play Ryu. And there’s a good chance they are using a turbo-controller. Why would I want to practice a game where a good chunk of the community is using 1 character, and some are just plain cheating?

You know what makes a good game? Not being readily accessible to mass audiences. This is the counter-model to games today, but that also explains why I haven’t made purchased a video game since February. Appealing to big audiences just means more $, so they try and attract people with graphics, and easy pick up and play mechanics. Case and point every Xbox game out today practically hands you 100% completions on a silver platter. They aren’t hard, nor do they take much time. You should be attracted to a game (at least at a tourney level) because it has depth, and you want to some day master that depth. Good games take time to learn, it takes experience and knowledge. They are about dedication and skill.

It’s just like when I quit WoW. I played roughly since the beginning, and man was it hard. 1-60 took awhile, and raiding was pretty difficult. Right before the expansion came out I was in one of the top 100 guilds in the world. It was fun, and having spent that much time playing and learning the game ended up being rewarding. It was a good feeling knowing that I was one of a couple thousand seeing this content, because it meant I had done something right to get in that position. You know what it’s like these days? Horrible. I quit months ago, but they have geared that game directly to the casual player. You could play that game with your face on the keyboard and still beat some of the bosses out there. Then they tried to make the hardcore aspects of the game transition to PvP…and now you can just grind for awhile and get all the gear you need. Rewarding someone for logging a few hours of play time a day with equal gear is stupid, what incentive does a person spending more time on the game have then? None, and that’s a damn shame.

Jason, Matt, Fred, I really feel I can learn some BB from you guys. I want to give GG another chance too if I can find a copy. I think you guys will be a good resource for that game.

This is mostly true, and I would give you rep if I could (already repped you in the premo thread).

Now get over here so we can get food and play games. I’m starving.

Yeah , dude im sorry but 2009 is the year crapcom fails. Its also the year SNK and ARCsys WILL destroy crapcom in the competitive aspect of fighting games.

I have a mind to ditch capcom for what they did with Shit fighter 4.

They’re all HD sadface.
