Dark Souls 3: Prepare to Die Once More

Not having any fun using pryomency. It doesn’t feel worth it. I’m gonna scrap this build and go with a luck build.

If I start a new character, I’m totally going Luck. That’s probably what I’m doing when the DLC hits.

That said, there are upsides to playing a pyro in PVE. It has REALLY good damage-dealing spells and a few nifty weapons. Just don’t bother with the White Hair Talisman… Its stats suck, and a pyro flame weighs nothing anyway. It’s just not great for PVP.

I’m doing a Bleed/Dex build right now, and man that Luck Stat is fucking awesome. They finally managed to make it so I don’t feel like I’m pissing points away using the Luck Stat lol.

I havent done a pyro only run, but if its a pyro mixed melee run, then just do raw gem on astoras straight sword, get it up to +3 which is easy, and you can do like a third of the game with +3 astoras straight sword with ease. Then get all your pyro shit pretty early. You can get female pyro from the dungeon, and good pyros in like 2 hours max.

Is this your first dark souls game? Magic and pyro. You gotta be in that state of mind, on a mission, and knowledgeable about the game, or it seems boring and frustrating. There are some boss souls that trade for good pyro magic too.

Quick question: Is anyone disappointed by the amount of bosses in the game? I’m not saying it lessened my experience (Currently almost done with NG+2 on my third character, over 100hrs put into the game so far), but only having 19 bosses compared to 32 (DS2) and 38 (DS1) makes me sad.

And on the note of DLC locations, nothing has been said, but there are some really obvious spots for them imo (lone turtle wanderer guy on the broken end of the bridge with the Stray Demon, locked door in the area with the red-eyed knight in Anor Londo, Gwynevere’s room, the big room with 3 of those poison Ghrus in the Demon Catacombs (you find a pyromancy tome in there I think), empty room in the Profaned Capital with the hand beast, praying statue near the high wall’s first bonfire where you find the bow/arrows, etc.) But none of these are probably correct.

Are you counting the previous games dlc bosses in those counts?

Anyway no not disappointed in the boss count. Quality over quantity generally, all of DS3s bosses are pretty good for the most part, a couple ok ones here and there but i generally find them all fun, where as i dislike the majority of DSIIs bosses and i like roughly the same same amount of bosses in DS1 as there are bosses in DSIII but DS1 has some serious stinkers like Bed of Chaos, the boss of the Catacombs and Ceasless Discharge.

This is not my first souls game. I normally use STR and DEX builds when playing these games. I used pyromancy in DaS1 since it all you needed to do was upgrade the glove and no stat requirement for the spells. The fact I need to pump stats in INT and Faith combined with the fact enemies don’t need to use evasive movement to dodge my shots pisses me off. You don’t even get the good shit until your near endgame. I’m not getting what I want out of the build.

Quality > Quantity. DaS3, imo, has a way better quality of bosses overall. While some might not be as good as stuff like Artorias and O&S, DaS3 doesn’t have wastes of data like Ceaseless and Moonlight Butterfly. I’ll assume you accidentally typed 38 bosses since DaS1 has 26 bosses lol.

Actually worse than Bed of Chaos
Ancient Dragon

EDIT: I sounded way more snarky than I intended, soz m8 <3.

I wouldn’t call Moonlight Butterfly a waste of data, sure it wasn’t hard but the design of it combined with the music and location was spot on.

Yea I really like the Moonlight Butterfly.

Thats not true. Only one item is near end game in the grand archives, and thats power within. Everything else is mostly in the catacombs and smuldering lake. Both of which you can get to in the first 40 minutes of the game on a slow day. Another 20 or so after that, and you can get the pyromancy witch from the irithyl dungeon.

Just get the astoras straight sword, raw gem, and go ham. I was wrong, you can get it +4 within the first 25 minutes or so of the game, and easily decimate most bosses when combined with resins. That weapon can get you to the areas you need to grab pyromancies early enough to still enjoy them.

You basically only need to kill crystal sage, abyss watchers, and wolnir to get access to areas to get most of what you need. Then you can go back and kill tree man, random demon that onion man helps you fight, deacons, and progress from there. You can actually get pretty strong before killing wolnir with your straight sword, and essentially just only kill crystal sage and abyss watchers.

Re: Bosses, you’ve gotta consider that they have to balance each Dark Souls game for a new player. The PS4 Soulsborne games have taken it up a small notch with intro-boss difficulty, but you can’t really fault early-game bosses for being simple. They’re just doing their job, the poor guys!

That said, I do appreciate the extra effort they took with Bloodborne and DS3. Those bosses are definitely more intimidating than they are hard, but they’re an actual test.

Other simple bosses make up for it with atmosphere. Sure, if you’re rocking upgraded bows and magic and shit, the Moonlight Butterfly is easy as hell. But at that point in the game, I was playing as a shield turtle, and I didn’t spot the summon. That turned it into an Actual Fight, and a fun one. Not to mention, the atmosphere is great.

Similarly, Gwyndolin is a pretty fun gimmick fight that has great atmosphere and fun lore stuff.

Just need all Rings trophy; hunting all +1 rings in NG+; I pretty much got Lord of Hollows ending locked in.

Spec’d into pyro only build, spellcasters have it REALLY tough in this game.

My stats are(Warrior starter class):
40VIG
30ATT
30END
11VIT
16STR
11DEX
30FTH
30INT
11LUCK

And the spells are:
Great Chaos Fire Orb
Chaos Bed Vestiges
Fire Surge
Fire Whip
Sacred Flame

The only good shot I’ve made is when I was in a fight club and a guy was running circles around me, I free aimed and hit him smack bang in the middle of his head as he was sprinting, he died from it too. The host prostrated and jumped off the cliff afterwards.

I was using this to count the bosses http://darksouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Bosses

Maybe they mixed in some expansion bosses outside of the expansion boss section.

No, I wasn’t counting DLC (Or, wasn’t trying to).

I’d probably have your same mindset if I’d played DS1 + 2. When I actually finished DS3 I just kind of sat there and went, “That was it? Well, time for another playthrough I guess.”. Apparently the final boss is a DS1 callback also, which was also something I missed out on, lol.

Yea they play a remixed version of Gwyns theme during the second phase of the last boss.

How do you navigate the room with the lava in Smouldering Lake? With a certain spell? I want to know what items are in there.

red pill bug, red stone plate ring, and flash sweat.

You need all 3 then? I tried using the stone plate ring but I was still losing too much HP.

I came back later at a higher level. Put on high fire red gear and stoneplate ring. I just healed up when I was getting low. Overall not a big deal.
