Who is hype? You hype? I’m hype.

There was a Dark Souls 2??? :expressionless:

eh you know i just couldn’t get really excited at first but now that i’ve seen all these trailers and gotten some info… getting hype as fack !
seems this game is gonna be the “real” Dark Souls 2 (if ya knöw whu i mean).

I do know what you mean.

Poor Dark Souls II, the most misjudged entry in the series.

Miyazaki interview:

Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki has assuranced that the quality of the game’s upcoming expansion will not be impacted by his second project, Dark Souls 3, which he is serving as director on.

Fan expectations for the expansion are high, given the widespread critical acclaim Bloodborne and previous DLC developed by From Software, specifically Artorias of the Abyss, have received.

Given the lack of information about the Bloodborne DLC, as well as the degree Miyazaki is involved with it, fans voiced worries when it was revealed Miyazaki is directing Dark Souls 3.

Speaking in an interview with GameSpot, however, Miyazaki said he believes he has the capacity to work on both projects concurrently, and reminded fans it wouldn’t be the first time he has done so.

“The bottom line is, I think I can do it. I believe I can do both the Bloodborne DLC and Dark Souls 3,” he said. “This isn’t the first time I’ve had to work on two projects at the same time.”

He continued: “When I was doing Demon’s Souls, I was also working on Armoured Core: For Answer. Even for the original Dark Souls, I acted as producer and director.”

According to Miyazaki, delegating some of the heavy lifting on development of Dark Souls 3 will allow him to focus on designing his projects.

“In the case of Bloodborne, although I was the lead game director, there was another director level person that also contributed,” he explained. "This is the same for Dark Souls 3.

“Actually, [Yui] Tanimura-san, the director of Dark Souls 2, has already joined the [Dark Souls 3] team, which will allow me to work on core gameplay design while other things are taken care of.”

He ended by stating that any product with his name on it would be of high quality.

“As long as I am listed as game director on the end credits, there’s a certain level of quality the game needs to meet. I can guarantee that the game quality will reach that.”

Asked to clarify if that was the case for both Bloodborne DLC and Dark Souls 3, he said “yes.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Miyazaki said Dark Souls 3 is the “turning point” in the franchise and will pave the way for something new.

inb4 overreactions and crying over the bolded line.

It’s kind of funny how much Tanimura gets shit on over Dark Souls 2 when an argument could be made that he actually saved that project. He was not assigned as the director of DS2 until halfway through development, at which point they decided things were going so poorly that they basically started over.

DS2 may be the weakest entry in the franchise but it’s still a competent game, especially when you consider that From Software’s main team was working on Bloodborne at the time. I have zero concerns over anyone from the DS2 team working on DS3, especially Tanimura.

Tbh just keep Tanimura away from the matchmaking and level design and it should be ok.

Hopefully it isn’t as shit as 2 was.

No, don’t bother telling me it was good, Taste Cancer SRK members.

The remaster has gone along way into washing the taste out of my mouth which was the original release of DS2. Does it make it better than the other 3 entries in the From series… no, but I actually want to finish it through now and play the DLC… A will I did not have during the original DS2 release.

No one cares.

I’m ready to die all over again.

I didn’t hate Dark Souls 2 but by god the world it was set in felt so dull to me, nothing had a wow factor like 1 did. Anor Londo was like entering the gates to Heaven in Dark Souls but 2 never gave me a feeling like that. Much preferred the first’s world, 2 didn’t hit the high note and although Bloodborne’s world was better it still didn’t have diversity and got stale after my first play-through.

If 3 has an interesting world and interesting characters to explore I’m down for it, I want to feel the sense of intrigue that I did with the first when I originally explored it because it was probably the greatest game experience I’d had in about 5 years.

Count in me as someone who thought Dark Souls 2 was weak entry. Hopefully Tanimura influence is minimal

Tanimura is the reason Dark Souls II is as good as it is.

from what i’ve read around the interwebs it was actually bamco butting in and asking for changes that’s one of biggest reasons DaS2 is meh. The team did the best they could with what they had.

The way Dark Souls II turned out the way it did because they had to scrap the entire game midway through. Like, they had to redo most of the game at the midway point of development and use assets and combine them and make something out of it. Only the DLCS were unaffected by this

You can find the translated japanese designs works post there that contains all that and more.

That said, the game turned out pretty well knowing they had to redo right in the middle and meet a deadline. Not as great as 1 but still not a bad game by any means. Course, 3 won’t have that problem.

It’s not wonder the DLC was SO much better than the rest of the game then.
