Part of me is like “Why should I waste my time trying to kill the Nameless King and fighting the horrific camera, which really is one of the worst I’ve seen in recent memory.” From’s free pass on janky shit should have expired a while ago.
The other part NEEDS this mother fucker dead though. So I’ll keep trying.
I don’t use camera lock on for phase one of the fight; found it helps a lot when you have control of the camera. Camera lock on phase two is definitely mandatory though.
Only place I ever had a problem with the camera in DSIII was fighting the Wyvern in Archdragon Peak when your running up to the bell that summons the boss fog. Just past him are the rock “crystal” lizards that roll into you. Camera loses it’s mind if you stand under him for some reason. Otherwise never had an issue. You’re either locking on when you shouldn’t be, or you’ve back yourself into a corner or something.
I don’t lock on during Phase 1 of the Namless King fight, there’ no reason to.
If you’re standing near it’s feet/tail you’re doing it wrong, you can’t escape one of it’s attacks on reaction if you are there, in front of the head you can react to everything and do more damage.
I usually tried to stand to the side of the dragons neck, I’ll try in front of his head though.
The first phase of the fight is hit or miss for me. Sometimes I make it through almost unscathed, other times I get murdered quick. The second phase is just a tough fight, but not because of the camera. Which I like.
Phase one comes down to learning the timing to dodge Nameless King’s attacks. The dragon’s attacks are all very easy to dodge if you’re positioned near its head. You’ll get it eventually. Don’t give up!
My first playthrough was Sorcerer build. Phase 2 Nameless King I just stayed at range and shot him with Soul Arrows. Only things to dodge are his lunge, and that one charged lightning attack. I’m sure the same idea can be applied with Bows. For my melee builds I wouldn’t stand near him. Waited for him to do a lunge. Attack twice during his recovery, ran away.
TBH I found next to him to be the best place to be, he’s got nothing too fast to roll on reaction and as well as punishing his attacks, if you have a fast weapon you can keep the damage up when he’s not actually attacking by just twatting him once then rolling through the attack when it comes.
Actually staggered his ass twice for riposts when I beat him using this method.
Phase two Nameless King is pretty much phase two Ludwig from Bloodborne. Huge, hard hitting attacks that are slow and easy to dodge with proper timing. It’s really about not getting greedy, dodging an attack string, getting a hit or two in, and repeating. If you need to heal, stay calm and keep dodging as needed, healing after a string instead of attacking.
Me and a friend just set up shop in the Undead Settlement, I was summoned in and we cleared the entire area. After clearing everything out, we made a prism stone trail leading to the bridge just before the Boss fog leading into the tower with the giant on it, I was on the cliff edge leading to the Cliff Underside bonfire with an obscuring ring and the Dragonslayer Greatbow. My friend dropped an item or two on the bridge and rested next to the well that’s just across it.
We popped the dried finger and waited, results? EVERY PHANTOM FELL FOR IT.
FEAR ME UNKINDLED, I AM THE GUARDIAN OF THE BRIDGE AND NONE SHALL EVADE MY WRATH.
