Dark Souls 3: Prepare to Die Once More

Amygdala was wrecking me til’ i switched from stake driver to saw cleaver.

I did this vs the fume knight in DkS2. I lowered my equip to 20% (fuck going naked), had my one rapier, and nothing else.

The difficulty in Soulsborne games are exaggerated. The games are challenging, no doubt, but there are much harder games out there. Hell, I’d argue a lot of 8 bit and 16 bit era games are harder. The reason why Soulsborne games get hyped up for being difficult is because the games are designed to be played a certain way; understanding the game mechanics and respecting said mechanics. Unlike many games in today’s gaming market, Soulsborne games do not allow you to play however you want, which makes the game very difficult by today’s standards of gaming. There are tons of games out there these days that show you how to play the game and then pretty much play how you want. That’s why you have so many people be awful at Soulsborne games because they’re impatient, rush in a lot, and don’t think a lot when they play.

QFFT

Props to you, the Fume Knight is my nemesis in that game. I ALWAYS go 0-30 with that dude before I actually beat him. Hardest boss in that game imo.

Well, it was actually a bit easier mentally once I did that. I said screw blocking, screw defense, let’s just attack and avoid and focus only on those 2 things. It still took me a long time to beat him, it’s just easier on your sanity when you’re more focused lol

Yeah, after my very first run through Dark Souls 1 (where not until I was well into NG+ I didn’t even know how multiplayer worked) I don’t even use Embers/Humanity/Effigies unless I wanna play with friends. Playing this way makes you SO much better at these games in the long run, not to mention how satisfying it is killing a boss by yourself anyway.

You got nothing to lose when you play Ember-less, and it’s fantastic.

Eh people who say Souls isn;t hard havn’t done NG+3 and 4s. Shit gets fucking rough when you can’t lvl out of the problem.

Yes I understand not everyone wants to get up to those NG+ rounds or higher, but it’s there for those who want that ball busting difficulty. I still have yet to get past O&S on NG+5 with my DS1 tank. They just eventually wreck my fuckin shit

Quick question: Should I keep a character at NG+ to use when the DLC comes out? I remember streamers with NG+3/4/etc. having a lot of trouble with this one boss with a holy sword, I don’t remember his name, in the Old Hunters DLC for Bloodbourne and don’t really feel like spending 4+ hours on a boss. I’m not sure if that boss was just a From Software anomaly in difficulty though.

You’re thinking of Ludwig.

All I know is, I went into that Bloodborne DLC at NG+3 for my first time through it.

It was definitely a mistake.

I use Estoc in PVP, I’ll play you anytime

Well, so far nothing has been that hard in this game but doesn’t mean it won’t happen in DLC. Unless you’re the type that only ever wants to make one character I’d just say don’t worry about it. The DLC won’t be out for many months anyway

I havent for sure, but its irrelevant. Enemies attack patterns dont ever change. They just do more damage, and have more health. Its an arbitrary difficulty, that isnt even that special to achieve. I think there is a slight randomness to attack patterns in dark souls in general, BUT ITS SLIGHT, and doesnt change with varying ng+'s.

What you get in NG, is what you get through ng+7, just minus the dumb damage and extra health.

I agree, if you wanna challenge yourself in dark souls, you can manipulate it how you want, but your biggest challenge is not the bosses. Its clearing enemies on higher levels, when it takes more than 1,2,3,4 hits to kill them. It just feels tedious though.

Like challenging enemies and bosses in dmc, bayonetta, vanquish, metal gear rising, anarchy reigns, is one thing, but in dark souls its like why waste my time. Usually when you get really good at dark souls games. You just wanna see how fast you can do it, or do an NG run with no upgrades and certain weapons, which is equivalent to doing it on ng+ shit, but minus the resources.

While they get more health and damage, theyre still the same enemies and bosses, AND, you get way more souls for killing them, while also having all your other resources available at the start.

First time playing through a souls game but super familiar with the world and the game.

Got to vordt but really rolled because I didnt realize how early I could get the claymore.

So fun. Just got past the undead village

The biggest challenge is whatever the player him or herself finds most challenging. That could range from anything between a boss, a regular enemy or even just figuring out where to go next. I don’t see how making these enemies more dangerous in NG+ is somehow an “artificial” sense of difficulty.

That’s pretty much how all difficulties work Jimmy. The demand you be more consistent. Do you have the consistent play to get through them? Get up to those NG+ rounds and find out.

And no when YOU get good at Souls that’s what YOU want to do. Don’t talk for me, if speed running these games was the only thing I cared about after finishing them I wouldn’t have NG+3 and higher characters in almost all these games. I don’t give a flying fuck about doing it fast most of the time, I care about pushing my build to it;s limit, I like over coming a difficult challenge with that build…then making it harder and trying again. It’s a lot more interesting to me to presented with a challenge and needing to use all my tools to their fullest to over come then it is to just go fast, or handicap myself and limit my tools. Base builds are sooooo fucking boring imo, you have nothing to work with, it’s like beating DMC with eBony and Ivory, sure I can do it, but I’ll be bored to fucking tears in the process.

Challenging bosses in DMC and Bayonetta and Vanquish are no different most of the time anyway, they don’t A.I. change much either, it’s slight alterations here and there and really comes down to consistency. Can you consistently perform. What point is there to doing higher diffs in those games by the way, most of them net you nothing but some unlockable like a weapon or a something, and most of the time you don’t have to do the higher diffs to earn them. I can get Pillow Talk in Bayonetta in like an hour or two on a NG run, I don’t have to bother with NSIC mode if I don’t want to, so there isn’t really a point to doing them aside from over coming a challenge. I can unlock everything in DMC3Se at the title screen so why bother with the higher diffs right? Not much changes in them. If you had said Ninja Gaiden Black or something I might have been able to agree slightly, but even then it doesn;t really hold up because those changes only appear for the first time on Hard Mode. For Very Hard and Master Ninja there is nothing new but the more crushing difficulty.

I dunno man, there’s just not much more of a useless point imo when it comes to video games then “what’s the point?” The point is pretty clearly spelled out for you, it’s a simply a matter of if that content resonates with you or not. I mean at that point I could just say “What’s the point of doing it fast? Nothing changes, it;s the same game, you’re just doing it quicker.” What’s the point of doing a lvl 1, base weapon run? It’s the same game, nothings changes you just have arbitrary limitations placed on yourself."

Like do you see why that is a useless response?

I was so gimped my first playthrough lol. I did a lightning partizan build and my damage was so ass. This playthrough I used a flamberge(took awhile to farm it lol) and just wrecked everything. Even beat Dancer my first try.

I think once I’ve had my fun with DS3(proper builds, explored everything, etc), I’m going to go re play DS1. There’s so many references in this game. I actually haven’t played through any of the DLC yet even though I have prepare to die edition on steam.

Yeah, I want giant weapons. Working on just putting everything to str to get it to at least 32 before I invest a little more into my other stats like HP or Stamina.

I don’t think it’s fair to count NG+ difficulties when considering difficulty of the game. Post game content shouldn’t really be considered since meat of the game isn’t really balanced around it (hence NG+ being easy since it doesn’t scale that much from NG). I could say Bloodborne is extremely difficult because the really hard chalice dungeons pretty much kill you for making one mistake, but that’s not an accurate depiction of the game.

So with all the PvPing I did yesterday, only one dude used spells, and they tickled.

Are spells only good for utility in PvP?
