Ok, the rest of the game is fine FUCK THE JUMP SYSTEM.
Spent over 15 fucking minutes dieing, respawning and waiting for that fucking “we’ve not loaded the level yet fog” to fuck off because of one fucking item on a tiny ass ledge which my character keeps fucking bouncing off because lol physics.
Avellyn was a complete pain in the arse to get to in DS1 but this takes the fucking biscuit.
I land on the fucking ledge over and over and it just keeps bouncing me off, shit’s whack.
Edit: Annnnd after another 12 minutes I fuck up the timing of my jump and get it by running off, despite running off never working when that was what I was aiming for, heres hoping this is the only bit of Mario Souls in the game.
Yeah as Drunkard’s Walk said it’s the Firelink Shrine, I used to get lost there thinking it wasn’t somewhere I was meant to be yet until I realised the Knight moves and I’d been through those exits before.

I believe it’s intentional to reduce load times when traveling between locations via bonfires. In a game like Bloodborne, the game would load the ENTIRE world from the main hub, which made load times long. In Dark Souls III, it seems like the game loads your immediate area and then loads surrounding areas in the background. In the event that the area is not loaded yet, a fog gate appears. This appears to be a problem when loading into Firelink Shrine because the game is still loading the surrounding area, causing the fog gate to be there quite often. Keep in mind this is only a theory of how the game loads the world, but it makes sense to me at least.

Thank you for being mindful to others, which makes this thread actually readable. I was dodging this thread for a few days in fear of spoilers; thankfully that is not the case!

probably registered as him falling the distance rather than traveling it down safely. same thing would happen in the older games where you would slide down a hill that should normally kill you, but then they get stuck in a tree however because it was still calculated as a free fall you would die as soon as you touched the ground.
