Dark Souls 3: Prepare to Die Once More

Lol yeah hosts are threatened by invasions, but I go there to kill him (and so does anyway else who is doing an invasion) so I’m not really seeing your point. I should be happy even though I’m at a big disadvantage when I invade because at least I got to scare the host? Also, you don’t necessarily have to adapt to the rules, you could just give up on the game, which is what I plan on doing unless something changes. As it stands right now (since the Cat Covenant and Darkmoons are rendered useless) there is one covenant that I think has some real potential for fun invasion. So, unless they decided to ditch this dumbass scaling thing or give invaders more heals, I won’t be playing for very long.

My point is that the invasion itself is the fun. If only actually landing the killing blow is fun for you then yeah, stopping is certainly an option. But then I don’t think it’s invasions that you find fun, you just find killing players weaker than yourself fun. I find invasions fun even if I don’t win. I do them for the actual experience of invading, not just for the sake of killing. Invading itself is fun and interesting to do for me. Killing them is just a bonus for me. I’m more interested in interesting, unique situations than I am in beating them. If I want to beat a player I’ll do a duel or some shit.

The invasion itself is less fun when you are at a big disadvantage. Sure the experience itself is something to enjoy, but when you run out of heals and your opponent still has 10 left, that isn’t fun at all, it’s just stupid and unfair. As an example, one of the great things about the Cat Covenant in DkS was knowing that, because you had top notch equipment, your SL 125 build could stand a chance or even beat the gang of level 80 gankers you were about to face in the forest. Now it seems that instead your SL 125 build will be getting bodied by SL 30 gankers. It just really doesn’t make sense and it is a stupid attempt to placate people who are afraid of invasions. I hope I am wrong about all this and that there is some sort of mechanic yet to be discovered (or that maybe From will patch PVP) but I doubt it. With all due respect (not trying to diss you or anything) but you were complaining about people using weapon buffs a few pages back, so I don’t really expect you to fully understand where I’m coming from.

I was complaining about buffs in PvP, in DUELS. In invasions I’m find with anything goes, traps, tricks, potshots, trolling, spamming, acid, whatever. Because it’s an invasion. And my complaints in PvP are mostly just about how much time it takes, and how ridiculously strong it was in DkS2.

You yourself just said “It’s just stupid and unfair” when they have more heals left than you but that’s because they still have the entire freaking level to get through. You only have one target, the host has a whole ton of things to get through. Traps, enemies, situations, enemy players, and the boss. Like, it’s plenty fair because you’re INVADING someone in their world who is playing their game.

You are not their only threat, and you aren’t even the main one, nor does From seem to want you to be. This is why I’m saying they just want invasions to be an aspect of the single player experience, not something that gives invaders a way to get fair kills and rank ups

The solution is obvious: don’t go through the level in human form. DkS struck a perfect balance: while human you can summon someone to help get you through the level, but it also means you have invaders to worry about. Now invaders are just a minor annoyance, they’ve completely ruined the experience because invaders aren’t much of a threat. I just don’t understand why, after working so well in DkS, they would even make any changes to covenants/invasions/PVP. I will say, invasions aren’t as much of a joke as they were in DkS2, but it is still bad. I doubt I’ll be putting much time into this game as it stands right now, only one covenant seems like it will be worthwhile. Also, I’m a little ticked they didn’t bring back something similar to Gravelords, that covenant was godlike

That’s not a solution, it’s just a different circumstance. If I’m not mistaken in DkS3, if they’re in ember form, they get more life and summons but can be invaded. If they’re not, they have less life and no summons. The point is the player still has a whole host of challenges to get through, whether the enemy player is there or not. So they NEED the larger amount of healing because an enemy player is only one small portion of the threat

Either situation presents it’s challenges, but I don’t think one is supposed to be, or even IS worse than the other.

So hype for this game I took the day off for work…except I took the 11th off, not the 12th. I went by the Steam release date(midnight release) instead of the official one. :anguished:

Oh well. Midnight Release should give me enough time to see if I want to stick with the PC version or if I want to go with the PS4 version.

it wasn’t really obvious though as the game made no mention of how Humanity worked originally and most peoples first experience with invasions was through twinking which went completely unchecked in the first one.

It’s just like anything else in a Souls game, you find out through experience. As for twinking, I don’t really see what the big deal is? I had a few twink builds in DkS, and just as often as I would massacre new players in the Parish and the Depths I would help them roll through those bosses just as easily. So it works both ways

The big deal is everything I said before. Invasions are for an enhanced PvE experience, it’s not exclusively for PvPers to get kills, and every change and adjustment they’ve made to invasions reflects this across every game

I personally can count on my hands how many times I invaded others games in the souls series. Just really isn’t my thing.

I do however enjoy getting invaded, partially because I’m rarely even running solo so I love baiting out the invasion then ambusing homie coming into my game.

For those who have played dark souls 3 already. Are all the areas interconnected like in dark souls 1? I heard they werent in ds2, and was part of another reason people aint really fuck with the game like that.

In general, no they aren’t. It works sort of like BB or DeS where you have a central hub, and they you can teleport to certain areas. I thought this would be a negative at first. However, the level design is really on point, way better than the laziness of 2 and more akin to the other games of the series

no you learned via glowing glypths on the ground in the very first area yet for some reason they thought to leave out one of the most important core mechanics in the game.

Solaire let’s you know that you can summon him very early in the game

I think maybe I’m not making my point clear. I could live with hosts having more heals or invaders getting scaled to the hosts level provided they both get equal heals. However, doing both gimps invaders way too much

Also, I’m so stoked I found the most godlike Ultra Greatsword for my heavy weapon Paladin. Seriously an amazing looking sword. I imagine it will be quite useful for those Guts cosplays as well…

No, I get that. I’m just saying that invading is not like, a main way to play, it’s just a supplement to PvE, and I feel confident in saying that because of the actual design trends present in the game

I’m not saying you can’t dislike it, or wish they made it different, I’m just saying I believe that’s what they intended.

I don’t doubt that it is working as they intended, but it seems like they have moved backwards rather than forwards from DkS. Despite that, I’m sure there is still fun to be had while invading; I just don’t think it can ever really compare to some of the godlike moments that happened in the original, because it seems like the mechanics just aren’t all there

That’s the thing though, it’s only backwards if that’s what they intended. Like, I feel like something that would be TRULY backwards would be making dodges have no invincibility at all, while not changing anything else about the enemies. Or adding lobbies so you can co-op the entire game without earning it. Things that are actually the opposite of what direction they’ve ALREADY been moving toward.

You just feel it’s backwards because you don’t like that aspect of it

spotted a couple of reviews saying that :

Spoiler

the game lacks “suprises”.

whatever that means
