That’s the thing though, it’s only backwards if that’s what they intended. Like, I feel like something that would be TRULY backwards would be making dodges have no invincibility at all, while not changing anything else about the enemies. Or adding lobbies so you can co-op the entire game without earning it. Things that are actually the opposite of what direction they’ve ALREADY been moving toward.
You just feel it’s backwards because you don’t like that aspect of it
Who are you to be the ultimate judge on what is and isn’t moving backwards? I think it is a step backwards because it is a lot worse than how it was in DkS. I don’t really give two fucks if that is “how it was intended” or if it is “enhancing PVE” or any other nonsense euphemism for making a once fun aspect of the game, worse. Anyway we will have to agree to disagree because this argument is going in circles.
As for the comment about lacking “surprises”, I kind of agree. It is hard to go into without giving away spoilers, but you’ll probably understand once you sit down and play. Still a very solid game though, a great way to end the series with some truly great boss fights. Not without its flaws, but what game doesn’t have flaws?

drunkards_walk:
That doesn’t really make any sense. I invade because I want to ruin the hosts day by any means necessary. The host needs to pay for going through his world in human form (especially if he is human in the area my covenant protects), and I am there to make sure he does. I don’t want an “honorable duel”, but that seems like the only PVP we are going to get at this time.
I could live with the whole scaling thing (although I think it is kind of dumb) if they just made it so invaders get the same amount of Estus as the host.
You guys misunderstand me. I’m not taking about dueling. I’m talking about how just invading AT ALL ruins the hosts day. By even presenting yourself as a threat, forcing them to use up consumables, time, and threaten them not being able to get their souls back is already something people dread
That’s what I’m talking about. If your goal really is the invasion experience then killing them or not doesn’t have to be the point.
All player to player interaction was, from the start, supposed to enhance single player. And guess what, invaders are a party of that, enhancing the single player experience for the host, not making it easy to get your rocks off with easy kills for the invader.
All of the changes they make to invasions support this too I think. Invasions and summons are not intended to be fair, they’re there to enhance the experience of YOUR game
Nonsense. I want to rack up kills, that helps my invasion experience. I never asked for easy kills, but invaders face such an uphill battle now. It was always a bit of an uphill climb, even in 1, but now it seems it is even more difficult to score a kill because of the scaling + lack of heals. This in turn means covenants will be harder to rank up in (and some will be rendered useless), which means not getting covenant items. You are making a lot of excuses for the changes, but the reason for the change is blatantly obvious to me: they want to make the lives of the host easier, so they aren’t threatened by invasions whilst funneling most PVP towards duels.
That’s where your wrong though, hosts ARE threatened by invasions, simple by the fact that they exist. Like, you seem to forget that most people you invade are not experienced PvPers and simply being invaded AT ALL makes people shit their pants.
As for the changes, it’s the same with fighting games, or even real life, you have to adapt to the rules.
It’s not excuses. It’s the way it is.
Lol yeah hosts are threatened by invasions, but I go there to kill him (and so does anyway else who is doing an invasion) so I’m not really seeing your point. I should be happy even though I’m at a big disadvantage when I invade because at least I got to scare the host? Also, you don’t necessarily have to adapt to the rules, you could just give up on the game, which is what I plan on doing unless something changes. As it stands right now (since the Cat Covenant and Darkmoons are rendered useless) there is one covenant that I think has some real potential for fun invasion. So, unless they decided to ditch this dumbass scaling thing or give invaders more heals, I won’t be playing for very long.
You know what would put the invader at even more of disadvantage? If there was even one negative reprecussion for failing an invasion at all. You don’t lose souls, you don’t lose anything. Gee, isn’t that pretty nice?
Meanwhile, every enemy in the opponent’s world fights alongside you. Your opponent gets locked out of bonfires. Your opponent is the only one that can lose their souls here. Hell, the fact that the invader can heal without spells in the first place is a blessing. As the red phantom, YOU are the one invading someone’s game against their will when everything is on the line for them and nothing is on the line for you. What more do you want…?

I want it to be like it was in DkS where an invader could heal as much as he wanted, limited only by his humanity. This whole “you get 5 heals and damage scaled down to the hosts level” is utter nonsense and it ruins a once great aspect of the game. It worked extremely well in that game, so there was really no reason to change it other than trying to placate players who don’t like being invaded. However, I don’t really expect the casual player to understand, so your comments about how the invader is “lucky to get any heals”, while being really dumb, is not surprising.
Going a bit off topic here, but your constant use of sarcastic tone is really annoying to me. Do you even know how to have a regular conversation without making dumb sarcastic comments?
Wants to talk about “the casual mindset”…
Proceeds to cry about his invasions not being easy enough…
Cry moar buddy
Where did I ever talk about invasions not being easy enough? God you guys and your reading comp skills…its really borderline embarrassing. Not that I expect any different from a dude with a DeadMau5 avatar though…
You’re saying invading is too hard without the ability to heal more, when invaders have been getting plenty of kills with NO HEALS for years now. So yeah, invasions are apparently too challenging for you now.
Maybe you need to re-read your own posts or something.
Why the fuck am I arguing with a 3 month old account anyway holy shit

I’M NOT the ultimate judge. The creators of the game are. And THEY are the ones making the decisions. That’s all there is to it. You’re literally complaining about something that was done on purpose. As you said, your only solution is to just not play it, so don’t. But don’t pretend it’s backwards just because you don’t like it. YOU just don’t like it.
Preferences are separate things from judgement. They are NOT the same thing, which is why it’s possible to like something that you think is objectively bad, and to dislike something that is objectively good.
You seem to be arguing that it is just BAD the way it is and that’s the end of it. I’m telling you that you just don’t like it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad.
I think the argument is going in circles because you don’t understand that I’m not even disagreeing with your opinion. AT ALL. I’m trying to point out to you how disliking an aspect of something doesn’t automatically mean that aspect is bad, especially if that aspect is working as the design intends it to.
Like, games don’t exist in this vacuum only for gamers. They exist just as much for the people making them, and you’re completely ignoring that there are people that are creating them. It’s not like a faulty machine just spits them out. Humans, with intents and designs are making them, and you can’t ignore that when evaluating a game if you want anyone to listen to your input. If you really think it’s a problem even on a design level and actually contradicts what they have intended then yeah, contact them and explain how you believe it’s a mistake. or write an article or whatever. But just stopping at “it’s bad and I think it’s backwards because it wasn’t like this in an older game” is useless to anyone and is just you speaking your thoughts out loud with absolutely no intent to actually have a meaningful conversation about it.

I got you, you’re right I didn’t understand what you were trying to say. However, I would like to point out that just as many people play DkS for the PVP as they do for the PVE. If the PVP (invasions in particular) are skewed so to make life very hard for the invader, that is going to turn a lot of people off from the game. In this sense, while it may make the game more fun for people who only like PVE, people who play for the PVP are going to feel ostracized. I like the article idea too, I think I’ll work on that. I’ll post it up here eventually

What? I guess two sentences means “trying hard” to you?
Is this coming from the dude who just tried to make fun of me for an avatar , and was completely serious? Instead of addressing my point?

Your “point” was just something you made up in order to make a dumb joke, nothing of real substance there. The funny thing is, you’re still doing it with each subsequent post. Comments about “09ers” and stupid meme pictures…pathetic really. You’re like a caricature for everything wrong with the internet (and an entire generation). Yeah it will take me a bit time as I’m pretty busy with work + school, but I’ll be sure to post it here eventually to see what you think. Plus I want to wait and see what actually happens with PVP, as a lot of this is speculation/hearsay. It will take a larger sample to really get a feel for how invasions/PVP/covenants work.
