Hello everyone! I’m a new member who is a proud Vega player. Turtle Blanka and rush down Seth players are my worst nightmares at times lol. I was wondering if any of you could give me some insight on playing these matches.
6-4 for whom? Vega or Guile? Cause I’ve voted that 6-4 for Guile. My most extreme ones were Gouken 2- Vega 8, and T.Hawk 1- Vega 9
i will record and post a video for this. Blanka has had tons of writeups
Guile matchup is 6-4 in Vega’s favor, Although I wouldnt argue 7-3.
I’m really getting the hint that Guy, Rufus, and Makoto are evil.
Sagat isnt as different as i expected.
Sim is pretty much the same.
Cody was scary at the beginning but I’m seeing through the shenanigans.
For everyone having problems with Blanka…

And this is with shitty play… granted against a shitty blanka, but you get the idea. If I had played solid there is nothing he can do.
lmao! Thank you sir! I will definitely try out this tactic. I just hope that this works against all blankas.
Hey, good couple matches we just had.
We had faced each other?
EDIT: I had just looked at your screen name. I remember now! Yes, gg! I just wished the Playstation network was good… I couldn’t face you at my best.
That air grabbing the ultra I’ve seen in a theonly_j match and have tried it on Vanilla. But it only had a %1 probability to be done. That became easier in AE? Cause you landed it twice in the same match. I haven’t tried it and won’t be able to play the game for a week or so, so I can’t tell.
As long as you have the distancing to neutral or backjump airthrow it, its fine.
Its trying to forward jump it that gets you hit by him easier.
Oh and vegaman, not to diss ofcourse, but imo your looking at the match from one viewpoint and calling it easiest matchup, if a good blanka gets lifelead he can do pretty much the same thing to Vega you know. Vega cannot threaten a blanka with lifelead with much at all, especially if he has meter.
I agree with the match up being in vega’s favour, but its really not by that much. especially since we lost the free herassing with him getting KD on some rolls now instead of us punishing his close hitting rolls with sweep.
in 2012 its more of a “who gets the lead first” when 2 very competent players face off in this match i feel.
Blanka is sligtly underhanded without meter though , since he cant really stop vega’s jumps without it.
life lead is irrelevant in this matchup. this is the one matchup vega can rush down in. The only reason to ever stop is when he gets U1… as seen above. Other than that I go after him, put his ass into the corner and fuck him up
Edit:
Also, just FYI but I mained Blanka before Vega. I know both sides of the matchup… which is probably why I find it the easiest.
Just FYI but I’m the one that taught J that. It’s one of the very rare things I taught him lol.
J’s joinin the air force and if he can he’s going to evo this year. He said he’s going to try to come down for NCR in March or April or whenever it is again. Last time (in Super) he beat Vangief, and Juicebox, and almost beat Fchamp before the tourney. Then he got randomed out in the tourney.
As for it’s difficulty, I spent about an hour in training mode back in Vanilla getting the timing down for all the ranges. Forward, neutral, back jumping. doesnt matter. You simply pick the correct jump for the correct range and air throw like normal. It’s all the same difficulty. Hasnt changed a bit since Vanilla
Lmao!!! I couldn’t agree with you more sir! I tried your tactic yesterday and it works. I can honestly say that my opponent’s Blanka was really good (freaking B+ rank), but I can tell that he didn’t have an answer for a rush down Vega. He/she only won a round out of the four matches we had played. Corner raping can be funny at times! XD
I do the same thing to Hiro, but he’s far better at spacing than me. I only beat Hiro if i corner him. And he’s really fucking good at staying outta the corner.
Also… both times I jumped i got hit. So that’s why you stay outta the air. Stay on the gound and keep him in front of you.
I do need to find an answer for EX rainbow ball to keep him in the corner though.
Edit: neutral jump HK is the only reliable move at point blank range, but it’s hard as hell to react to.
It’s a little hard to punish without taking chip damage… I had an old tactic where I would force an ex ball from blanka, take the chip, then trip him on his recovery. This only worked if you had the life lead plus if blanka was mid-screen or cornered.
I hate how most of the time you slide under him with your U2 on his recovery from rainbow ball and U1. How would U1 pay in this match? Does anyone use it for Blanka match up?
no the problem i was having was that blanka has a get out of corner free card when he has meter with EX rainbow ball and you’re at point blank range. at optimum range it doesnt matter since you can focus it but at point blank, i didnt know how to keep him in the corner. Now i know to neutral jump HK to keep his ass in the corner… but it’s hard to react to because you have to identify it’s not EX up ball and then react.
here’s the thing about U1. It’s good…, really good against blocked balls. I used U1 in Super and AE against him but I found that I never really have the shot at landing it on him. I always just had to stocked. Never used.
Here’s the problem. Most blanka players now know not to have balls blocked. And most blanka players wont let you keep a charge when you’re KD. And the only other decent time to use U1 in is on reaction to Blanka’s U1, which as you see above I go for air throw instead, and during electricity, which is hard to predict or react to (unless you hold downback a lot).
So I pick U1 an pretty much save it exclusively for one of 3 situations:
Electricity
U2
Blocked balls
Other than those 3 I dont even think about my own ultra. It tends to restrict my offense when I try to land it. So i just use it as a simple Whiff/unsafe block punish
Okay I’m gonna (kindly ask this again, can you please tell me what fundamentals am I lacking and how can I acquire them?
See this post:
If you want me to be a bit more specific, it’s going to be difficult because fundamentals covers a LOT of topics and I do not know the specific situations you were in nor exactly what fundamentals you lack. If you want me to be more specific then post that match up in the matchup thread and i’ll take a look.
Going off the information you’ve given me I gave you the most likely things that you are lacking. i do not know for sure that you’re lacking these or not but most people (including myself back in vanilla and early super) that have a problem like that are lacking in those areas of fundamentals.
as for getting them. the best way is to block more and think more during matches. Play to learn instead of playing to win
Anyone have any info on how to best Seth?
best advice personally I can give is to go ahead and take a few losses to specifically learn how to block his mixups. Then block them and punish unsafe moves
