Dance with the Claw: Vega Match-up Guide/Discussion

On the contrary, I jump in a lot except when she is crouching and on her wake up when she has ex meter, cause that means she will ex.spin. On her wake up, I love to to go near her, and make her do the ex.spin, except I neutral jump and strike from above. A very high j.hk late jump in also punishes ex.spin as she has her hurtbox is “in that area”. When she jumps in on you, be sure to wait until you see if she hits with punch or kick, as her j.hp is two hits, and if after the first hit you go crouching block, the second hit will hit you. As her jump is like floating in the air, ST and air grab is more important in this match up. Just j.mp, if you fear she will counter you, as the j.mp has great reach and seems to have more priority than all other jumping normals of vega. After a whiffed Barcelona, don’t go to her if she has ex meter, just land somewhere far. FA close fireballs. And after you blocked her auto-cross up (df.hk), start blocking low and ready to OS grab tech. Don’t do any roll if she has super, as her super has 1 fr. start-up (nuts)

Sorry gross, but jumping in a lot on a good chun will get you murdered and EX-spinning bird is one of her lesser options when she sees u jumping.

I think i detailed it in another post.

Well, I jump in on her a lot if she doesnt have ex meter or ultra, and noone does anything, they just block or eat claw

So today, I’ve recieved a strange hate mail. I wasted this Seth player with 6000bp. And then when I tried to enter his lobby again to steal more points, he kicked me. I asked “what’s ur problem” and the answer was “Dude you play Vega… gtfo” o_O He tried to humiliate me for playing with one of the hardest chars to play with. I also saw this kinda comments under youtube replays “I cannot respect a Vega player”. And he wrote that under Jozhears Canada Cup Massacre video. What are these people thinking? Does Vega seem an easy char to play with?

Vega indeed seems easy to play to an untrained eye.
Its because he typically does not do fancy looking combo’s and stuff. Just spacing, pokes and kara grabs mostly.
It also might be left over hatred from the super street fighter turbo 2 age where vega admittedly is kind of a “dumb” good character :stuck_out_tongue:

People that have enough understanding about the game respect vega (players) tough, they know vega is a good/decent character because of his ranged pokes and footsies but they also know he has shit defence, masochistic links , no ambigious cross up game, medium damage and little in the way of option selects.

Be glad your not a blanka or fuerte player, worse characters and more hate lol.

i don’t have a camera to record my matches :frowning:
if you want, i can send it to you via replay mode

and jump against chun doesn’t work, she can aa with her normals all day D:

for those of you that still have a problem with the Blanka matchup I’ve finally found a blanka player online and remembered to save the match.

Yes… He’s still free, even if the blanka player was ass

I don’t have it uploaded yet but if you’re on xbl i can show you the replay

The Rufus match-up still eludes, me despite playing more and more high level players, I feel that even people with the most basic herp-derp strategy with this character give me a hellish match up.

Do you guys have any videos of you fighting rufus players that I could watch and learn from?

I mean a lot of them divekick three or four times, if you attempt to tech, you eat full combo, corner and pressure on wake up. If you attempt to jump away the fat asshole can just early jump hk and you eat 40% for nothing. Is there something I’m missing?

Help me out esteemed Vega community.

lol i havnt played any decent rufus’s online so any vid I’d have wouldnt be useful. Although the blanka I fought was ass, the fact I limited his options and how i went about limiting his options doesnt change. Even if he were decent, he’d still have had trouble. If he were good though (which there aren’t many blanka’s that are), then the match would probably progress much slower, and I’d have not taken as many unsafe risks, as I usually do, but the basic element of limiting his options doesnt change.

The only thing that changed in 2012, is that he’s not free on wakeup when he has meter.

OK, I just got mudered by the same E.Ryu player Evil Majin, and wanted to show you some moments from this madness. I just could get 1 round out of 3 matches with best out of 3 rounds. This is what I’m talking about. All the matches with this E.Ryu goes like this :shake:

there’s a couple reasons for this:
-he’s spamming focus on you and getting away with it.
-You’re always in the corner
-You’re not blocking effectively
-You got punished for whiffing an unsafe move
-you’re spamming crouch tech and he’s doing meatys and tech traps to catch you on them.

he’s not doing anything overly impressive, except styling on you.

Cause my whole match goes with blocking and I need to attack to win. He doesn’t do anything unsafe. And E.Ryu is very good at putting you in the corner. FAing dive kicks is unsafe, jumping for an air hit trade is a losing scenario; you just have to back dash. If you block with all those combos he pushes you to the corner even though you block.

But yeah, most of your points are true. Except that “he’snot doing anything overly impressive” part. All those combos and the mix-up at the end aren’t impressive for you?

use your walk speed to your advantage. and most of those are only unsafe because he knows what you’re trying to do. He’s just playing solid. nothing impressive. Block his blockstrings because after wheel kick, unless he fadc’s (requires meter) it’s unsafe. stop mashing out crouch tech. sometimes it’s better to just straight up block and take the throw.

Yeah you’re right. The ugliest thing is in a match like this, I mean when I feel “oh, this guy can eat me up on a single mistake”, I just get too nervous and all my execution goes shitty.

A multi match-up question.
Against those no-grappler chars with command grabs, when they start to do some combos you block but you cannot punish, like jab-jab-jab-cr.lk-etc. you know that during this, he will make a command throw somewhere, what do you people do? Is it possible to escape those command grabs in the middle of some lp,lk blocked combo. Take Seth for example. His cr.lp has 4 fr star-up and is at 3 fr. advantage on block. And his SPD is 3 fr start-up. So he does cr.lp-crlp. which you cannot counter you can just block and after that he goes for an instans SPD which seems you also cannot escape as you are blockstunned for 3 frames after you block his cr.lp and SPD also has 3 fr. And your only 3 fr. thing is grab, and grab loses to command grab. What to do? You just have to be command thrown in that situation?

No, you can backslash/flip, jump, reversal scarlet terror and backdash all of these moves are invulnerable to throws from the first frame , wich is the same frame a command throw can land in.

But its always a guess and all of these options can be punished if you read wrong and he didnt choose command grab, risk/reward ratio is always something you have to consider.

correct… to add onto this also, not every command grab has the same startup, so for some people (like abel) it’s pretty risky to go for a command grab. you can score a KD if you’re paying attention

TNX  I’ve started to have Seth problems lately, that is why I asked. It is as if all his normals have 1 frame start-up

So…regarding Ibuki, uhm…how do I deal with her okizeme? I got murdered by a great Ibuki last night. I just started guessing which way I was supposed to block, but in all honestly I had no idea %95 of the time. Any tips? Sorry for being so vague, but I’m not too familiar with ibuki so it’s hard to even tell what I’m being hit by on wakeup.

Practically, the best way is to watch for super jump. If she does a super jump before kunai it will mostly be a cross-up, but after a normal jump it will not. I don’t know if that is the case always. Maybe she can crossup kunai after a normal jump, I’m not sure.
