Dance with the Claw: Vega Match-up Guide/Discussion

Hawk has great AAs. His cl.mp is one of the best normal AAs in the game according to me. His cr.Hp swats most nj out of the air and his tomahawk buster hurts if he manages to react with it. Nj against Hawk is not a good idea trust me. He does however not have that many ways to deal with backdashes. Either psychic Spire or OS cr.hk. I think Vega has a slight advantage here, max 6-4.

How about these two matchups? Honda and Gen. especially Honda, fuck that guy, I almost feeling like exiting everytime i see a Honda coz i know no matter who’s playing him that the match is gonna be annoying and no fun at all -_-
His HHS pressure is plain ridiculous, and his damage is just disgusting… there’s alot of annoying shit he does too like nj.HP and and random headbutts… did i mention that i hate this guy?

Honda is tough shit, If he does a HP headbutt from across the screen you can CH him or jumpback HP.
you gotta move around this fucker to make him lose his charge but beware of his neutral jump HP that thing is insane.

One thing I learned this weekend against Honda; You can hit Splendid Claw in between his HHS > Sweep combo. Note the HHS was normal and not EX so don’t know if that had anything to do with it.

If you were able to land SC in between HHS and roundhouse, it’s because he dropped it. HP HHS, st.hk is a combo.

About Honda:

Against Gen, if he is a Gen that jumps, your jumping lk seems perfectly angled down to screw up his low hopping shit.

Against a Gen that plays ground footsies… good luck.

The Honda is 6-4 from a tool wise look. From a more “lets consider the human factor” view point.

I played a Cody the other day and got blasted. How do you guys go against good Cody’s who are very good with his pressure game?

tbh honest this is an online tactic.

block, and wait for the inevitable jump. Once down depending on the habits meaty him CH, cr.mk whatever start your offense. be wary though because they like to mash that slide setting a counter hit, so using cr.lk here as a poke is very important so you wont lose momentum once you start it.

When he’s in close It’s all up to your defense. Block and tech, block and tech. I try to create distance when I can.

Generally I just stay away from him and poke.

When I’m ready to engage and the circumstances are right, I wall jump towards him for some pressure and go from there.

Maybe utilize some h.k into jump away h.p for a mix-up since he has no srk.

I usually do pretty well against Codys online and hope this helps.

Most Cody players are cross up hunters. Once they knock you down they will go for the cross up (jump in). Remember you can quick recover and slide under the jump in, then back dash and you’ve created distance again. OR seeing that you slid under there jump in most players will immediately attempt another jump in to keep pressure on you. st.HK after your slide and you will get 1 hit on them as they try and jump.

I’ve been on a break from SSF4 for like 4 months, but I’m starting to slowly get my mojo back (i think) so aside from dropping some combos I’d like some critique from some of you on my gameplay. What do i need to Level up and shit like that?

for honda I use the same ST gimmicks which if you think about it still applies to ssf4

Most of the mistakes you made stem from the fact that you arent playing a ground based game through the use of pokes and kara throws. Attacking with walldives, sky high claw, and random ex walldives is risky and is easily punished by good opponents. On defense I would recommend to use vegas backdash(or just block) in a lot of the situations you backflipped. Backflip should be used EXTREMELY sparingly and definitely not in the corner.

i did that to jewelman last night… it’s a cheap tactic and i dont remember if i beat his honda or a different one but it’s worked better than any other method i’ve tried. it’s ugly tho lol

Stay on the ground EB
Stop backflipping, backdashing is way better. Has a funky effect on your hitbox, almost like a dodge. Blocking is super underrated too.

Space your CHs better
Stop using your meter as soon as you get a bar

So yeah i just sent the new matchup guide to joz. he’s gonna add some (hopefully) to the charcters we dont have a write up for. Once he’s done he’ll send it back to me to fix grammar and spelling and stuff then it’s headed for sasaki.
it’s a 63 page, 27,815 word document… so this is gonna be tricky to post. lol

also… if anyone wants to write a thourough write-up on any character and make it good feel free and i’ll pop it in there before sending it to sasaki. i’m sure sasaki will be able to add to it if need be later on
