Dance with the Claw: Vega Match-up Guide/Discussion

Woops I meant st.mk.

And with the sumo splash I meant when you successfully block it. Perhaps the guy I was playing was doing something wrong but with the exception of the EX version of sumo splash, I was able to punish with st.HK every time I blocked it. I’ll have to verify in training mode.

if you block the hit going up you can then punish with st.rh, if not you have to guess what hell do.

did not know that. thanks for the info.

Adon, discuss now

Its not his Jaguar kick pressure, its his neutral jump. and his annoyingly short jump. The thing is how do you pressure someone who has a neutral jump as good as this. It has a really fast startup and it doesnt last long. I can punish blanka’s who do this, but not Adon, its that good. st.hk is an option but a big risk, its not bisons st.hk, and i have to guess wheter or not i want to jump up or poke. And can i get sensible advice please, not bait this and that or guess this. K thanx.
and its on how to deal with it, i know if i can make him play a poking game, i can win it so dont tell me keep him out, because eventually they get in. k thanxs.

At the moment when Adon gets to his jumping pressure, it locks me down. Breaks my charge, airgrab doesn’t work, so I get locked down. My best choice is to try and tech the eventual throw so I’ll get pushed away to escape/counterattack range. If you can see what side he is going to you can try a focusattack dash-out, but I’m pretty sure you can get hit hard if Adon expects it.

Adon hits hard, harder than Sagat, his jump pressure is great. And it doesnt help that he know the Vega match up inside out courtesy of me. And he started doing the nj pressure in response to me kara throwing. But yeah, that is what im forced to do, just wait, and wait. And he can play footsies with you so that doesnt help.

I know what you mean about Adon’s nj pressure. It’s really good. I have played a guy on PSN who has a great Adon and employs the nj a lot. I still manage to beat him (barely), but yeah, I bait the jaguar kick and punish with jb.lk (the bait) > cr.MP > EX FBA. The worst seems to be when Adon has you in the corner and uses the nj to keep you there.

Pedo, have you tried a quick recovery and then slide? I haven’t tried this yet but Vega’s recovery may be quick enough to get back up and slide under Adon’s nj. I use Vega’s slide as an escape tool and was thinking it may work against Adon’s nj.

Hey guys what frame trap do you opt for if you are playing a Chun that ALWAYS crouch techs your pressure?

you could try something that uses cr.mk, or use fst.mp and go for cr.mp, or use st.hk

st.lk - cr.mk
cr.lp - st.hk
cr.lp walk slightly cr.lp

you could also try cr.lk - cr.lk. if your good with links thats a one frame link to cr.lp

cosmic heel traps work kinda to, and sets up that OS for you quite nicely.

how do you guys handle srk spammer since our lp is kidda hard to link up. i always got srk-ed by spammer.

how do you guys deal with cross up ultra/super by gouki? its a Os or?

I don’t play online anymore but when I did play online I usually punished SRK’s with c.jab EX Barcelona when I had charge. No links here, just a simple cancel, and if you were already charging down you will have enough to get the punish in.
With no charge, opt for standing roundhouse. Good damage for a one button normal, fast startup, good stun.

The problem with playing against online competition is that they know their DPs are tough to punish because of lag and most online warriors ALWAYS start mashing a second DP when they see they whiffed one because very commonly people try to push a button to punish them but underestimate the lag online and end up getting hit with another DP.

You have to punish early adjusting for the lag… which varies… so it sucks. (Shotos and Blanka/Honda are enormously helped by online mechanics and Vega is hurt badly.)

Ok i need some help with these 2 matchups: Rose, T-Hawk.
especially Rose, wtf am I supposed against her?

With Rose i have problem too usually i try to pressure her with her U2 since it’s treated as fireball i usually block em to make these 2 thinks disappear or try to hit rose with the d.u.PP or Ultra since they are immune to fireball if they hit her ultra disappear

Against T.Hawk i never haved a problem. If they condor dive on you scarlet terror on reaction to trade (sigh) or back dash s.hk if they are diving in front of you (to follow up with ultra or the grab) if they dive on you so you can block i usually block it and punish with ex wall dive or d.hk (the slide) if they use the horizontal dive i scarlet terror em on reaction. T.hawk is really slow, slower than zangief so you can punish almast anythink to do a lot of damage.

U2 wasnt the problem, it was just that he kept poking, ticking, and doing strings that end with a safe drill all day and i couldnt do anything, it was plain irritating.
whenever i try to close i either ate a boot to the face (f.HK) or a soul throw (if i jumped or did a dive).
it was really dumb, i felt so helpless when i fought her.

see with Hawk, the guy was doing Dives just in the right range to get in but stay out of S.HK’s range, and I was always too scared from his 360’s to try to pressure him unless im at max range, that was until i went into a corner and got GG’d by cross up Dives (wtf) and his ridiculous j.HP and 360’s. it was a sad set, i always thought Hawk is one of my easiest matchups till today

Yeah, Rose is definitely a harder match. I seem to have the same trouble… it seems her pressure is very safe.

Have you tried using ex scarlet terror through those unsafe drill block strings? Not sure if it will work, this is just theory fighter her.

For some reason most roses I fight don’t throw very often during their blockstrings. Her mk slide is relatively easy to see coming, and I dont even think she has an overhead. I just block for a long time in that situation and ST/tech any throw attempts or Spendid Claw and stay ready to act on anything unexpected she does like jump.

Does her ex-spiral hit Vega out of the startup of ex-RCF or ex-ST? Ex-RCF has very from the first frame all the way to the end.

nj.hk and playing keep away has always shut down T-Hawk for me

Rose is an all spacing footsie match up. Respect her pokes, but dont let her zone you with soul Spark. once she gets you thinking that you have to jump over them or that there presence actually means something, its much easier for her. Her pokes are as good as yours, play like you would chun, but you have the liberty to play a more aggresivly. And look out for cst.mk, that is such a nasty tick and counter hit set up combo. One little trick, although very risky is walk up when you know she cancels into soul spiral. That way the spacing is of, and you can punish badly with cr.mk or a cr.lp - cr.mp combo. Remember its all about spacing.

On T.hawk, you have hit him, you cant be afraid of 360, it hurts, but by constantly running away you let him walk, jump in, condor dive, or condor spire. and that is when people start falling apart. Make him play footsies where you can react, and not give him oppenings. Against a good Hawk, i doubt its 7-3, i have to aggree with Gridman on this 5-5.

Yeah but nj.hk has always shutdown his little dive attacks for me. Every time… So i don’t mind running away

Wait till you play somebody who likes condor spire instead of condor dive, and he knows how to use it. tactics like nj usually lead to disaster on a really funny level. It falls under the bait and punish category of tactics.

GIMMICKS is what Mr. Paisa says about nj beating T. Hawk
