safe-jump on adon = izuna drop -> cr. strong (timing) -> jump-in rh

cr. strong needs to come out asap. jump-in asap after cr. strong. rh should come out late.

i’m not gonna lie i saw makoto do this setup on blanka. i don’t know why he did it though because it didn’t work, but i thought it might work on adon so i went ahead and tested it. and it worked!

I don’t know why anyone would throw this out there. I wouldn’t even use it for shenanigans. The EX FBA is going to get blocked 9 times out of 10… or worse.

cr.LK will combo into cr.HP, but it’s not a combo I hardly ever try.

speaking of retarded, you can cancel the first hit of s.RH to super. Not really usefull but still funny to get someone in the super afterwards.

And Akuma, Sim, Sagat, and possibly Abel (dash u1 and hk roll u2), Rufus (df. lk > U2), Elf (run stop either ultra although u2 requires a nearly 3/4 screen run) Gouken depending on how early they read your retreat. Ryu’s super, as well as a shitload of other specials.

block high against balrog. Any turn punch/special punch = grab > balrogs punch.

once you establish this, well you win the match because now he cant pressure you as much, allowing you to start your game.

edit: but only gets you so far. Works great at High-Intermediate Level play where people are less inclined to random headbutt or shit like that. but against pro-level play, idk. I still yet have to play a real Balrog.

^ I did that during souperbowl fight night. Still lost most of my games vs balrog, but the matches where closer after capatilizing.

Against Balrog I’ve been testing the use of Vega’s st.LK > cr.LP for when he charges with an EX move. You need two hits to squash his EX as he charges and the st.LK > cr.LP is fast enough to do it. I believe st.LK > cr.LP WILL combo into st.HK, but I have yet to test this out.

I’ve always thought of the Balrog match up to be just like the Bald Bull match up in Punch Out. You gotta stand up to him when he charges. lol How’s that for taking it back to the old school?

Any tips vs abel?

Roll into Breathless will always counter Walldives Btw so dont ever try it.

Also St.lk,c.mp is great for beating focus dashes…

what does nj-lp firehopper means? any diff between nj lp and jus nj?

nj stands or “neutral jump” so you jump straight up.
nj-lp would be a neutral jump with a light punch.

Also for whomever said Cammy can punish ex walldives. That is a given. missed the connecting ex FBA after a combo and ate her ultra straight in the face. Not sure about fullscreen though, don’t think she travels far enough. Though considering Claw’s recovery. They can probably dash and then ultra your ass and still have enough time to connect. I think the law of this matchup is just to stay out of the air.

st.LK as Jin said, beats a lot of focus dashes. I’ve found it works hilariously against Dudley (Finally, a way for me to get around the git!) and with Balrog’s dash punches that absorb one hit. a well placed st.RH does the trick, I find.

just do a nj instead of nj-lp to hop fireball does make diff from it? sorry dont quite understand why need to do a nj-lp instea of just nj.

@Pedo: the grab thing doesnt work on balrog unless they used the HP/HK punches coz the other ones almost always leave him out of range, sure theyre like -5 or whatever but most (good) Balrogs wont use dash punches unless theyre in range for the LP/LK ones. oh and all the EX punches IIRC are safe even at kissing range.

from my shitty Rog experience i found s.LK, s.RH, HK ST and CH are the best ways to deal with dash punches, however only s.RH and HK ST work on the EX ones as you need 2 hits or an armor break.

oh, and Balrog has the easiest punish to whiffed EX dives, as soon as you go into in the air he can charge a TAP for free and it’ll fuckin hurt as it’ll pretty much go full screen, and it’ll hurt even more if he cancels to a super :'D

vs abel st hk zone him out don’t abuse hk because u are at disadvange if miss, always be prepare to throw him don’t play with pattern be random avoid abel cr.lk when abel as meter approach with caution because of COD, SHC instead of walldive

that is a bad idea. st.hk leaves you so open. st.lk is better because it leads to so much for so little. Also cr.mk. cst.hp is good if you know how to set it up. CH is debatable because it leaves you close to him.

Unfortunately you are going to have use st HK in a lot of cases versus Abel. It shuts down his super armor attack, his FA, and his jump in which is 3 of his four main ways that he is going to enter. St lk can’t be comboed into the full Ex FBA if he is standing as well which sucks.

In this MU I find that being aggressive is key. Don’t mess around just trying to out footsies him, it will cost you. Put the pressure with your combos, kara throws, CHs. If you space CH right you also get the +1, 2 or 3 advantage on block, which allows you to go for the cr lp if they try to OS tech. I catch people with that alot. Also make use of your cl HP and cr mk well.

For defense. NO KKK FLIP. Use back dash please. You want to grab ALOT and use ST alot to get out of his block strings, unfortunately. The problem is your timing has to be perfect or else you fail and die. If you look at the frame data, then you will find that Abel only has one move that puts him at above +1 on block, and that’s his crouching jab which is at +3. If he uses ANYTHING else grab will beat him. ST will beat all his attempts at continuing block strings with the step kick, it will beat all throws, jumps, or the Super Armor attack.

Then there is Breathless. This move is absolutely retarded against Vega. Abel can literally just use the move and force you to guess to either dodge immediately or move and then dodge. At certain distances jumping either forward OR backward OR NJ will get you caught regardless of whether or not you attack. Using either KKK or PPP flip will get you caught or back dash. Your best bet is to either be close enough to where ST will hit him or be far enough away where PPP flip automatically gets you out. If you have Ultra 2 stocked and was charging, then you can just use U2.

Also breathless is immune to grabs, so trying to use the izuna loop in the corner can be dangerous possibly.

U2 also shifts his hitbox weirdly backwards. At certain ranges where you normally could have jumped over him, you can’t.
