Dance with the Claw: Vega Match-up Guide/Discussion

Chun is one of Vega’s better match ups only if the Chun absolutely sucks ass, that match up is so one sided its not even funny.

idk. its hard, but not bad bad.

Only match ups that are harder IMO are Balrog, Rufus and maybe Guile. a good Chun is a real pain to fight

but its more of a pain. I can see why you would call it hard. and its because your best pokes like st.mk, cr.mp, CH, and st.lk are not as effective, but with right spacing any poke can eat Chuns pokes real good. That the impression i got when I played Shizza like 30 times, and the times ive played black as well.

Have you never played a sick Cammy? I played Elitheiya’s Cammy on PSN, who is a very skilled Cammy, and I got raped so hard so constantly that I left thinking the Cammy match up is 9-1 in her favor.

She can balls to the wall rush you down all day. She can hit confirm into a spiral arrow, which will put your ass in the corner where the gang rape festival commences. From there you’ll be instant dive kick hit confirmed into cannon spike fadc cannon spike, (don’t you dare try to tech!) and when the Cammy player senses you’ve learned that OS crouch tech is suicide, the throw rape begins.

Who knows, maybe it’s not as bad in Super with U2 causing her to have to back down some. I haven’t played Elithieya in super, but she gave me such a large dose of ass pain in vanilla I will not be forgetting it any time soon.

EDIT: And before anyone says something like “I hate it when someone tries to base a match up off of some online fight they had” just know it wasn’t just an online fight. It was two sets of 14 matches a piece (best 3 out of 5 rounds) on two different nights over the course of which I had enough rounds to try every style of Claw play in my book. Sure, I won some rounds here and there, but I never took a single match. Claw is just flat out disadvantaged to that bitch. You make one mistake and you’re in the corner in a TERRIBLE situation.

when it comes down to these characters (rush). I have noticed that many losses where do to guessing wrong. Which leads me to belive that OS against rush characters is the stupidest thing you can do, because you are guessing every time you OS. So you have to learn how to block. possibly the hardest thing to do in SF 4. so in a perfect world where you have amazing reactions cammy shouldnt be so bad.

first off, Elitheiya is a dude.
I’ve played him alot in Vanilla and Super, our sets pretty much go even or with a few extra wins to either side (10-9, 8-10), maybe me being an ex-cammy mainer helps but I dont really see this as a hard match up, its a 5-5 imo
another good Cammy players are ZTI890, Otogi-Matsuri, Love_me_Wanton and Crisis_PSN.

you can literally outpoke Cammy from every range and she has no way to get in unless its after an untechable knockdown, between c.mp, s.HK, c.HP, s.MK, ST, CH, and EX FBA you can keep Cammy out all day. As long as you keep your distance from her you’ll be fine.
U2 is preferable in this match up coz it can catch her C.strikes, blocked c.spike, spin knuckle, blocked or baited SA, all hooligan follow ups etc.

So does anybody have any information on the Makoto match up. Like real actual strats instead of jumping up and down in front of her? that bitche’s pokes have so many active frames its fucking annoying.

knock her down. izuna loop. DONE

ive tried that. But everytime i try it on NinjaCW, he always does a late DP and beats Izuna. Maybe im doin’ it wrong. the jumping up and down, works only so much. And i dont like gimmicks. One thing i do find that works is usning cr.mk xx RCF strings, and cr.mk - CH type traps. thanks though.

thanks for the chun props Jr. I picked her up because i hated that matchup. wanted to learn it. Tatsu helped me a lot with that. Shizza is a tad easier, but still hard as fuck if that makes any sense lol

She shouldn’t be able to. i’ll mess with it in training tonight and try to get back to u b4 evo. ive been playin on ps3 since its the console for evo…i’ll see what i can figure out. last time i tried. she couldnt do shit about it. I saw Tatsu do it a few times in tourney as well. If she CAN get out. i’ll work out a gameplan. wait…are u even going to evo?

there are ways to beat the izuna loop, but a dp(late or early) isnt one of them.so if you’re getting hit by that then you need to go over your timings just a little bit.

For the Chun-Li Matchup I find it most annoying that everything Vega has, Chun-Li has something of the same funciton but only better. Both have godly dashes but Chun’s is better. Both have amazing poke ranges especially cr. MP but Chun’s is faster with barely less reach and much higher priority. Claw has a awesome poke with his MK but Chun’s FK has just slightly less range but higher priority and start up… All her air normals come out faster than claw’s and much higher priority. She has a spinning kick for a reversal attempt thats quite reliable but Claw doesn’t. Its practically a Counter-pick match up. Now that Claw has Ultra 2 it can do something like dash forward then ultra but its no where near as good as dash front ultra 1 from Chun-li. The timing to go through fireballs is much stricter for Claw T_T

The only thing that she can’t compare to Claw is her jump. Claw’s jump is much faster espcially with the wall jump.

Poke AFTER Chun and u win. u have to play very strict footsies.

Learned something amazing yesterday:

Rufus can’t do **** about st. RH. I used to think that J. Fierce would beat RH for free, but if you space it in, ironically enough, the worst possible way, it ALWAYS hits. Somehow it’s hitbox just owns rufus in the air. J. RH, and J. fierce both literally cannot beat it. Seriously, if he’s in deep jump in range and you’re afraid of getting divekicked and you’re sort of taking it easy, and he just decides to Air Jordan you with J. Fierce, just press Roundhouse right as he’s above your head. Always hits him. It’s amazing, it acts like an Akuma c. fierce. So, against rufus I would heavily suggest, footsies-wise, using c. mp to beat ground rolls (i tried reacting to them. Very difficult but doable), st. MP to beat dive kicks when they’re coming in at you or st. LK, and st. RH to anti-air big jump ins. It really is possible to lame Rufus out =D

You guys arent playing against the right Makoto’s if you’re able to izuna loop them easily and successfully.

I would like to but, I have school. and a few chemistry projects I have to work out. But next year im down to go.

late DP would win, wouldnt it. Using invul frames and auto correct it should and would win. And the reason i stand by not being able to do it to makoto is because her DP hits straight up. so it doesnt have to be as delayed as a Sagat or ryu would have to.

Hey, don’t know if this has been posted yet(32 pages is a bit much to keep track of) but on the Rose Matchup, EX RCF goes right through her U2. Now it doesn’t mean do EX RCF as soon as she activates it but its something useful to know since most Rose will throw a FB upon activating it to approach safely or do fireball FADC and some just start dashing forward right away. If you see this or any other weird set up you can do EX RCF and catch them off guard and do damage while ending the danger of the Soul Satellite.

Yep. st.RH shuts down his dive kick game too. Till a stage where the only few things where Vega has to look out for are:

  1. df+mk (rolling drop kick from rufus?)
  2. c.hp
