Dance with the Claw: Vega Match-up Guide/Discussion

Had a look at these fights.

Very nasty Cammy, especially those corner traps. Wondering if staying more mobile and playing run away may help in this kind of situation. Would probably only work for a fight or two though, until opponent wised up…

yeah that something i have. I have spent 50 seconds just avoiding attacks trying to find a way in on a kara canceling tiger shot god like sagat. Its no big deal, but its that zangief, he is fucking stupid really, i dont get his character design, great comeback potential, stupid ass ultra, and other bull i think this is one of Vega’s worst matchup, i miss playing 5 blanka’s in a row who actully did crazy things and where good than 2 fucking zangiefs in a row. and Rufus, i dont understand that fat fuck. I cant wrap my head around it. they call srk spaming kids scrubs, but thats all fucking to rufus players do spam that shit if they have meter, its fucking unwitable really, and his dive kick, wow really that shit negates footsies, there is no footsies when the fucker does this all day, its just kick, repeat, repeat, repeat, tech, repeat, repeat, oh GT, EX messiah kick. Its just a matter before he gets in and just makes you guess wrong. and FA wont work any more because they are so jump so low and land in so deep.

And people online, really thats the most annoying part. they come in with 5 bars, and once i air throw them 5 times in a row, it magicly starts lagging, making it fucking unberable and hard to Air throw these assholes. good thing i found some local comp, got me an arcade stick so i can train in the arts of using one, and finally be able to play at the arcades. But the only problem is that if i go im not guaranted to play good players to. sigh…

edit: player matches against SRK guys FTFW. go to the ryu forums and look for the srk training thing, and there is a bunch of good players in there, really that cammy player that owned me for free is in there.

This was happening to me a lot the other day, but with my techs not registering and getting thrown around like a rag doll from predictable jump in Ryu’s. I almost punched out my monitor :crybaby: If you fail or guess wrong it’s fair, but when you end up getting scrub owned from game lag, it’s the most hard to take defeat.

like i have said all along…playing zangief is like playing a totaly different game all together! its not even street fighter anymore!..they might as well have thrown in a 20ft tall robot that shoots lazers and missiles at you! he just doesent fit the game at all! but what i reely cant understand is the ppl who main rufus and zangief! have they no self respect? honestly both characters look absolutly idiotic! how can you shame yourself by using such stupid characters? i grew up playing super turbo and my whole life i considered zangief to be just a joke… i will never understand it

oh and good luck with your vega in the arcade…i tried mine and got my ass handed to me big time! and im good on a stick lol

Gief isnt as hard as you guys think.

i can say the same thing about Blanka, he isnt that hard. its only seems hard because he can out poke you because a lot of his cr. moves shift his hit box so cr.mp doesnt hit. Its that i cant grasp Zangief or Rufus, i cant figure them out at all i personally think that Zangief is Vega’s worst match up. Why? because you can molest him all you want during the entire match but one jump in that you failed to aa him mostly during wake up equals fucking Ultra. Then its rape on every wake up for free. If he simply had foward flip (Graphs idea, or invul frames on a move) If you can enlighten me then do please, but id rather Blanka any time.

^ easy, don’t let him jump in meaning, don’t let him even get the distance on you to jump in. trying to AA is bad cause you’re likely to trade which never works in your favor. just run.
run away harder

Totally agree. You just have to poke him here and there and run away. St.MK and Hk are great against Gief. Jump back HP works wonders on his wakeup if the player is blocking or trys to throw out something. You just have to be really patient against a good Gief and don’t rush in.

Rufus, however, is quite the monumental task with Vega. He’s my worst match by far, especially Ricky Ortiz’s Rufus who I play at Sunnyvale Golfland on regular occasions. I beat his Rufus a few times before with Vega, but now he has caught on to my mischief. It’s really difficult for me to read Ricky because…well…he’s Ricky.

I think the thing with Rufus is that almost all his specials (EX Messiah, GT, dive kick) close the distance on Vega really fast, even if you try to run away. That and Ricky is godly when it comes to controlling space and zoning effectively. Then I’m in the corner being heavily pressured by dive kick mixups that I can’t seem to do anything about since Vega doesn’t have a reliable way of getting other than pokes, wall dives and wall jump if I have a bit of space or just block all day.

Regardless of how Ricky plays, I think Rufus is Vega’s worst matchup other than Blanka which I have an easier time dealing with now thanks to Bebop’s matchup info which helped a lot. I guess I’ll just have to keep at it with Rufus matchup I guess.

Those are the Cammys I regularily see around. I always, always told you, good Cammys are nothing like those pseudo-flowcharts. And I really think those are the players the people were playing all along as they said "it’s easy, it’s easy"
And that Cammy was even missing Combos. The problem is really, it’s not hard for Cammy to keep her offense going on and on on Vega. Look how easy her Combos are. If you option select, she can really fuck you badly with either random FAs during her blockstrings or CS. I believe she can even IA CS to punish your light kick/throw whiff/whatever.

the problem is that zangief is harder for me than any one else. once you get knocked down its a fucking rape fest. Look i got to go to work im when i get back im going to write up an essay explaining the matchups and what the difficulty is and explain why i think they hard.

^ im with you 100% on this one man…at least with blanka i can make a few mistakes in a round and still come back…i can also apply good pressure without fear of a random lartiet that takes 20% of my health setting me up for a full round beatdown afterwards. like i said playing zangief isent street fighter. me and blanka can go back and forth offence deffence like a reel fight…like the game is suposed to play…not run away poke and hope to guess right on everything he does…thats not SF in my opinion…its so easy to say hes not that tuff but i think botom line is hes just a stupid fucking character that nobody reely wants to play againsed…i dunno maybe im just speaking for myself here

There was a post by Bebop here last night that totally kicked ass… except now it’s gone? Oh well.

Goes back to sorting through the bullshit advice for the good advice

Sorry. If you do want solid advice though, you can hit me up with a PM anytime. :wgrin:

Blanka
no too hard

C.Viper

Yes

Dhalsim
No teleport nullifies

E.Honda

El Fuerte
Yes but needs meter

Please do not make up your own difficulties, reasons why are obvious. Tips and hints/info are okay and perfectly appreciated though
Keep it up!

what are you on about? you can ‘vortex’ anybody to death regardless of whether they can get out of it or not. If Akuma can teleport, anticipate it and sweep, or ultra, or EX Sky High Claw. just because they have moves that let them get out of it doesn’t mean you can’t do anything.

also wtf is with the word ‘vortex’? last i heard it was a term japanese playesr used for Abel’s offensive game, now people are claiming Vega has a ‘vortex’? i don’t think there’s anything that vega has likenable to abel and if he did it wouldn’t be his spectacular offensive game.

vortex?

What dost thou mean by ‘vortex’? Someone explain this to me, would you kindly?

it’s like I said, my brother told me the japanese used the term ‘vortex’ for Abel’s devastating offensive game. like how after a knockdown, Abel can tear people apart, that’s called the vortex. lately i’ve been seeing this word used for everyone, and i’m confused.

Vortex is a nasty mix up game that you usally lose at and keeps puttining the guy in the advantagous position.
I got that term of the sabin QA, and when i used it this guy aggred that it means the way i used it. There explained and stop being butt hurt.

edit: and as for Vega’s vortex its his wall dive loop, some people can get out of it for free while others have to blow an ultra, or meter to get out of it.
