Don’t backflip the buttslam - you’ll get punished for it. Focus it on the way down and punish.
Also, any good Honda will not be throwing out headbutts randomly. Honda can be a very hard match because he has such a massive advantage in terms of both health and damage output. You really just need to play it safe and not do anything stupid. One mistake and Honda gets a huge life lead and can turtle all day long.
Ok so Rufus. Is every single thing he has safe or am i imagining things? He can literally keep me in blockstrings 90% of the game. And his air to air beats mine. This is the only matchup i feel is really fucked up. EX messiah seems unpunisable on block also but maybe i’m just doing it wrong.
Nah, Rufus’ Messiah enders are actually very punishable. Crouching :mp: -> EX FBA/ :lp: RCF for the sweep (need to get back to you on that; managed to counter it once before, but not sure if that was due to the sweep being delayed), flip and neutral enders. Focus and punish for the over-head ender. Only thing I can say for Rufus Air-to-Air is to stay above him and go for air throw over anything else when possible; fast start-up (faster than all of Rufus’ “good” air-to-air?), ridiculous horizontal and vertical range, which may be artificially increased due to Rufus’ large hit box (not sure about this) . Seriously, it’s almost like an aerial :lp: SPD.

well, I got beasted by this guy called somer Z, something along the lines of that. Any way this guy was fucking beast with Akuma. It got me thinking is the match up really 6-4. Akuma can easily rape you with the Vortex. And since Akuma thrives of knockdowns, pressure, and Vega’s wake up game is easily the shittiest one in the game, how is this a 6-4 match up. He can easily own you because once he touches you with a jab, its a guaranteed knock down…Well maybe its 6-4, cuz of my shitty Vega. Maybe invul frames would help because had i had invul frames I could react and punish making him engage in my game a bit more because the threat of retaliation is there? I dunno though advice would be godly…
Hey Pedo, it’s Z Somer right? I actually have a video of me losing to him in championship mode a while back.
He beast rapes me (slightly worse than a normal, non-beast raping) the 1st and 3rd rounds, BUT I seriously feel like if I had a few more matches to adjust I would do ok against him.
I just let him trap me with his demon flip vortex too easily and I think part of that was underestimating him and not knowing what to expect. When I thought about it afterward, I think there were many opportunities for me to use airthrow and cr. rh to escape or punish his demonflips.
He used this one trick where he would throw an air fireball on my wakeup that looks like it would crossup. Fireballs don’t crossup…but he times it so he actually passes over you and the fireball now hits you and let’s him combo. Got me a couple times with that… I’ll post the video in a bit as soon as I find it.

Man I hate watching replays and seeing all the things I should/could have done. I really take those demon flips like a bitch! In the end I get chipped to death. Those crossup airfireballs are at 0:30 and 2:02.
I have beaten Z somer’s Akuma a few times but he still destroys me the majority of the times, which is why I was complaining so much about lack of invincibility on anything. If I had invincibility on BHC or EX ST I could make the match more even by at least allowing me to make a comeback. Alot of times that I would have won (like he would be down to like 5-10% health) I would lose from getting hit once and then losing like 80% of life due to not being able to escape the vortex (especially since he only needs to guess right twice) and because of mask penalty.
If your Izuna vortex is really good it can help alot against his Akuma. CH -> EX FBA, and then EXFBA if he teleports to keep him in. Another thing that makes this match difficult for me is not knowing how to defend against a few of his tactics properly. Most of them I got down… but I don’t know how to defend against that air fireball on wakeup that hits behind you when he is in front of you, so if anybody would like to let me know then please do.
Ok so I thought about it a bit. And I can kind of see why they say its 6-4. Akuma can fire ball you all day, but you can dodge them all day. He needs to get in eventually, and its either through a st.rh pressure, or engage in footsies and hope he lands a sweep. He cant Demon Flip you because you can air grab him. Once he lands a st.rh, he can combo and start pressuring you through links. Know the only thing he can do at this moment is continue to pressure you. He is going to try and frame trap you, tick throw, air fireball shenanigans, or mix it up with demon flip/jumps. Now if you’re great at late teching, tick throws aren’t that much of a threat, but still pose a huge threat because of that untechable knock down. Air ball shenanigans are bad because of that stupid 50/50 mix up, but he is taking a huge risk becuase you can sweep him, and if you have Ultra, that’s a Counter Ultra you just landed. If he demon flips or jumps that’s to your advantage. Thanks to Vega’s great jump speed you can air grab him and put him in a position where he has to risk engaging in footsies with you again limiting his options. Making him take risks again. Personally i still think its not a 6-4, but if you play the perfect game I see why they say its a 6-4…
Hey deuy at the end of your match where he used the air fireball into demon flip you would have won if you used BHC at that part towards the wall in front of you. But yea he is really good.
So yea, anyone know how to defend against that reverse air fireball tactic thing?
Yeah I think you can just block it as if it’s a crossup, I just hadn’t really had that trick used on me before. I’m used to not having fireballs crossup so it caught me off guard.
Yeah you’re right about the BHC Alex, when I watch now I see alot of stuff I should have done but I was kind of stunned haha. I think airthrows would have shut his demon flip pressure down better, but do you know if he can throw out a kick or punch on reaction to Vega jumping up for the throw (during his demon flip)?

Can someone give me advice on how to deal with a rushdown Ken, for some reason I just have no idea what to do when he gets a comes at me full force with his knockdowns, kara-throws etc.
I know Vega doesn’t have wake-up options but can anyone give me tips on how to be more defensive? Will that help against Ken?
@Deuy- Honestly if you jump against an incoming demon flip you should be able to beat out its options since demon flip can only attack after half way. I am going to run tests later on to see what the best options are versus the demon flip. I predict that jumping/ ST on reaction might just do the trick. It all comes down to AA once again, that makes this match painful. Once I figure out how to proper utilize all of Vega’s AA options then things should be quite easier. I am currently working on multiple strats.
Sorry, cant help you there. A strong rushdown ken is one of Vega’s worse matchups. And i highly doubt anyone on this forum can help because i dont think they’ve ever played against a high level rushdown ken as i have.
