my little brother plays deejay and i know all his tricks. well, sort of… how i approach it is keep blocking and focusing his fireballs and for him in the corner. if you read an attack after a fireball (usually a jump or slide) just focus. hell, just focus once in a while to test his reactions if he can do his dread kicks. it’s risky for him to do that because it’s punishable. when poking, stick with cr.mk. his slide kick goes under all your normal poke. on his wake up, make sure to lock him down with 4 frame safe jumps and/or cr.mk meaty attacks
What should I be doing on my wakeup vs Cammy? The ones online always seem to go for an ambiguous crossup divekick setup which makes it impossible for me to dash and usually causes U2 to whiff. Sometimes flip gets me out, but I think they can probably OS it. Is there anything else I should know?
Hmm, maybe just block and hope then counter. But always wait until they do their anti air thing since they always do that straight after their low spin thing. As much as they’re hated, the right amount of patience can defeat a Cammy. Trick them by going in the offence. Also, EX ST might work as a wake-up.
Waking up, we haven’t got a lot of options :
— Blocking is your best bet, just as the Philosopher said
— Focus back dash if you predicted a cross-up dive
— Ultra 2 if you predicted a front dive
Aside from that, I wouldn’t advice any ST including EX, as none of them have invincibility : they will get blown up by any physical attack during startup. PPP flip will allow you escaping from cross-ups, but at the risk of eating a full ultra if she is fast enough. Not really worth it.
So, I’m afraid you’ll still have to guess… just as any other character facing her, if that can comfort you in any way. ( ‘-’)
not teching is also a good idea after a spiral arrow, gives you time to figure what option to take
Hello =) Can someone help me out with Vega’s top 5 worst matchups?
Gen, Cammy, Rufus, Adon are probably really the worst 4, after that its a toss up between all the other unfavored matches like: Ryu, Akuma, Abel, Juri, etc
I would also say top Guile players pose a problem with their air throws and alike. And Gens are hated.
yun
Nah, I disagree that Gen, Guile, and Adon are that bad. I find those three very fun every time. Gen requires some special tech and spacing, Guile lots of patience, and Adon great reactions and a bit of extra yomi (psychic air grab his jumps to get out!). When you run into a couple players who are good they can really make ANY matchup feel like one of the worst. I think half the cast can be especially difficult sometimes.
When you’re asking what the most challenging matchups are, I think it’s best to think about players who are not that good. Players who aren’t really needing that much luck and not putting in that much work to beat you while at the same time aren’t playing as well as they could be but still beating you more often are the matchups that are out of favor. A lot of times I thought matchups were stupid but realized that I’m just getting outplayed and out yomied at times. That said,
Very Hard (consider using an alt):
Yun
Yang
Hard (get a lot of practice):
Rufus
Cammy
Sticky (be extra careful):
Chun, Ibuki, Juri, Makoto
just my unprofessional opinion! The chics in SF4 can be a handful!
I agree with Chicks being a nuisance. I don’t think Adon is difficult but Gen is painfully destructive at footsies. Like seriously, I just hate the matchups where I cannot punish a footsie battle with pokes.
I think Vega’s top worst match ups are Cammy, Ibuki, Akuma. Everyone else can be annoying as heck, but those characters decimate Vega’s options. All of them. They undermine his authority.
Guys I need help on the Ibuki match up. I feel like there is no action I can take against her on wake-up and once she has meter I cannot pressure her on knock down. It’s easy to SAY block, Focus Backdash. Those things don’t work against a high level Ibuki. I will find my monthly stream and post it, but I knew I had to keep her out, but couldn’t. This guy always beats me.
My first match on stream vs LuckyD is at 50:00 and I love playing him. He played well that day. Also, first time he used Ultra 2 vs me. Not a big difference but that last trick at the end was just showing off lol.
Then NEXT match is my problem it’s starts at 1:33:00. PLEASE tell me what I could have done differently because I have never felt so powerless since I played KBrad and was shown just why Cammy is so good. This guy knows that he can trump my options so there are no fucks given.
Am I the only one that think that Yang is a really even MU?
He is really honest.
Rufus is not that bad. Cammy is worse. Gen… well, whiff punishing anything with crMP is not that hard, offline is a really cool MU footsie-wise, except for his sweep… for that you need to use the slower crMK, as crMP goes over him, but the problem are his jump ins, as we can’t barely trade with them, those arcs are just too good! Not to mention his setups and excellent kara throw, the pressure is bery stronk.
Adon… he is a pain, its boring as fuck. But he is manageable, 6-4. I’ve never saw Gamerbee losing a single match (maybe a round?) for a Claw player in a tournament. I can be wrong, though.
If Makoto is using U1 is an even MU, the thing may go a little bit in mak’s favor if she chooses U2. But it is very fair, and not troublesome by far. Pretty much the same as Chun Riiiee, its an honest MU.
Ibuki, Gouki and Yun are 6-4 for them as well.

ok heres were we start. ur timing of course was off. im sure u kne this. second you played his game. when he got in, he kept testing you to see if you would do anything. some times, jus stand grab with kara would fk that all the way up. force him to do solid frame traps. people are scared of frame traps, but for vega they are awsome because you can counter them easily. they build less meter and push u further back. stand tech and only thing she could hit u wit is the over head but of course, ur not gonna do it all the time. sounds funny but u gotta play def your way, not theres.
ibuki is one of those characters that can get in.REACTIONS, jump back mp or air throw. she got no safe punish. if she slide, then u know shes willing to take a chance on getting u. make them be wreckless. you allowed him to be safe. neutral jump once in a while. you gotta get in his head. use stand lk as baits more often. im not saying 1 million times a match but bait pokes. most ibukis looooooove to counter hit especially with cr mp or stand mp cause they can buffer it. you bait with cr mk or stand lk and try to whiff punish. or u can jus sit and block. see if they take a gamble.
that ibuki made no gambles. all options were safe for him. no risk no nothing. why be scared of second guess?
also, u dont “dance” any. so he knows when ur planning on attacking. when u walk forward, he turtles, when u walk back he goes in. u completely lacked footsies. basic footsie principles
Just for kicks…
my opinion:
Cammy (only cause of unblockable)
Gen (only because the MU is foreign)
Viper (only because I have yet to see a decent tutorial on how to block burn kick pressure)
Akuma (due to vortex)
Rufus (due to dive kick)
Yun, Yang, and El Fuerte would tie for #6 to me.
well El Cubano Loco took Justin Wong’s Adon to the last round:
That’s the closest I could find
I don’t know where my head was. I normally am not this bad. I rewatched it a couple of more times and it did not look like me. I will work more on my dancing because I am lacking in match ups I don’t understand as much. He is legitimately the only decent Ibuki I have ever played.
Thank you. goes to the lab
Anyone got any great tips on the fact when players start using the focus to absorb our Barcelona? I do know the grabs and the baiting of course but was wondering if there’s a more quicker approach to this or should I play patient? Also what’s our best methods against Abel? I’ve had trouble with him recently and haven’t had enough experience. Found myself scraping by to get back to 5000 bp. Ugh.
ninja
my advice to everyone who plays vega seems like a broken record. footsies and whiff punish/baits. with abel i like to:
- gauge what type of person im dealing with. if aggressive, jumpy, rolly or footsies
if jumpy, i use aloooot of reactions, anti air with jump forward air throw or jb mp. if rolly, i like to jus patiently want for it and grab em or punish with st hk/cr mk.
if he plays footsies, its alllllot easier because clearly u out range him with pokes and baits work perfect. - i play footsies once i show him " you not gonna get in with trolling, better use talent"
i preach it and stand by it. st lk is the bessssst normal vega has. EVER. it will beat out normals, it can whiff punish and lead to good damage and it can be used to bait alot of normals since the hit box on it is super retarded. it cant be focused unless he does fast focus which is stupid. if u land it close u get st lk xx cr lp xx cr mp xx Ex bar, or jus st lk xx cr mp.
u can use it to also to bait out alot of slow normals cause they want to counter hit you.
apply those 2 pointers and you will find abel to be such an easy target. also btw. vega alone has a wierd hit box so abel cant do alot of effective frame traps on him so sometimes jus stand throw or jump away works perfect
