im an old school SF player also… i played back in the early 90s til now… when SF2 and MK I & II came out… and I think SF3 is probably the most pollished Street Fighter game ever… dont get me wrong… SF is nice and all… but it isn’t as much of a mind game as SF3 is… like you said… Blanka is useless… which speaks for itself… the game is unbalanced… i mean you can only DP with certain characters right? (ie ryu, ken, sagat,…) what about ehonda? that makes him useless too? anyways…
and this is coming from an Old School SF player… if you give SF3:3s a chance… you’d probably like it more… and even beast with it… but dont judge SF3 because you made a stupid mistake by DP or uppercut… next time wait and dont DP or upppercut… grab him instead… or low hit and super his ass! but dont say SF3 is worst of all… when you dont even understand the whole concept of it!
INVICIBLE moves is what makes a fighting game less balanced…
japanese sticks and american sticks are WAY different!!! i’ve used both… and i can say that when you’ve been using japanese stick for a long time… the transition can be difficult… almost totally brand new… it feels like playin from pad to stick kinda feelin…
Granted, probably depends on the person and what they’ve been exposed to. After playing on a Sanwa, readjusting takes time to get used to US sticks again for me personally.
As far as sticks go, I’m personally more used to Japanese style sticks than American ones. However, I don’t actually play on a stick enough for switching styles to make a huge difference in my game. If someone used only sticks, though, and only a particular type of stick, I could definitely see it making a difference in that person’s game.
I jus read the first 3 pages and even though jeff has some strong valid points and i do hate the ridiculousness of 3s at times, it’s true that tiems do change and so must the player change his/her strategy once in a while to keep up…goodbye invincible dp anyways the reason i’m posting is to ask for a link for this jeff vs daigo vid…after reading the first post i have 2 see this.
3S is a lot more balanced than SF i would say… because almost everything can be countered… i wouldnt say 3S isn’t unbalanced… because no game in this world is unbalanced unless it’s tetris! lolz
Though this is a year old, I’d like to thank Jeff Schaeffer and Mike Watson for making it possible, as well as whomever revived the thread.
This is a great read for those of us who played back in the day, but nowhere near as competitively as these guys.
It’s a shame how competition in general has been going. Solid defense, timing, and smart play in general is slowly fading out and being replaced by flashy offense, difficult combos, and high risk. We’ve seen it in the NHL, NFL (pass interference rule change anyone?), and fighters.
I hope some of these gems from the old days are discovered. It’d be a pleasure to watch
Many people around the world think that 3S is the best SF ever, then theres also people who think that SF3 series are the worst but many people who dont like 3S dont say a word about it because they know they will get flamed as hell here, for me I kinda share your opinion because SF3 series dont have a gameplay that I like, I enjoy more a fighting game that has more connections with the old scholl type play like: SF2 CE (ya, we all know that a 3 hit combo in CE kinda means: round over) but in a game like CE we can find a true old school gameplay type, I know that I already posted this here before but until now (and thank GOD for that) the SF game with more fans/players here in Portugal is SF Alpha 2, even if we are not a ultra competition elite players like we see in major tournaments (B3 was a dream of Alpha 2 gameplay) we still at least do what we can with the small knowledge/skills that we have (talking about Alpha 2 here) and even if we have a pro player from other countrie who comes here and kicks everyone in teh SF that most people enjoy most here (Alpha 2) we will keep playing it because from my point of view Alpha 2 was and still is the game with the gameplay that make many of us to give as everything we have for setup our small tournaments.
Some people in the world can say that tetris is the best video game ever, other some can say that its Pac-Man, but on the end what it matters is what each one players really enjoys to play and I can say a few reasons that make people here to not like 3S:
trow: most players dont want to use 2 buttons to trow (like A3), the classic trow will be the only trow that has the old school type feeling trow way, the 2 buttons trow its almost like you needed a button to block.
super moves: since A1 was released characters started to having 2, 3 and 4 supers, plus: after Alpha 2 players can use any super that they want more the CC, by releasing a game were you can only select one type of super is what I can say…? does not make sense, its like in some version of SF you have all the weapons and then Capcom toke all that off and forced you to select only one super move (stupid)
the c.HK qcf+P: I still dont understand why in the fuck Capcom toke the sweep into fireball poke move of the game in SF3 series?? example: you are playing with Ken in Alpha 2 and your oponnent blocked your sweep move (c.HK) and you connect it with a fireball to poke him, this move was and still is used a LOT in games like ST if you are playing for example with Ryu, the same thing happens in SF2 CE (take a look to the SF2 CE fights that “korea_sf2ce” user is posting on this forum everyday and some of those fights are outstanding/amazing, theres no reason why Capcom should take that poke move off from games like 3S or A3, the move can be used in A2 but then in A3 Capcom forget to add it there?
Parry: this is were everyone who enjoy 3S love it so much, this can be the same reason why many people who dont like SF3 series hate it so much, to be more clear:
in CvS2 players can select P groove and K groove (Parry/Just Defend) but what happens if you are a player who hate or dont like to play with parry at all? if thats the case then you can choose the classic C groove grove wich is closer to SF2/A2 style, or you can go to KoF type play with S groove, or go to the N groove.
In 3S if you dont play at all with parry you will never but never go far away in that game because parry is major weapon in 3S, and what happen to everyone who never play with parry or dont like parry? --> many will not play SF3 series because in SF3 its possible to parry everything (not trow) and if you try to play 3S with the old school type play of SF2 series you will not go far, but hey: theres other game were you can play with the old school way like: SF2 CE, SF2 HF, ST, Alpha 2 (even if in A2 you always have the CCs) etc… (I know… posting again about A2)
This is just IMO and everyone has the right to have their favorite game, in some countries theres some players who dont have the luck of having tournaments in games that they love, as far for me were I live: I have the luck to go to tournaments were theres my favorite SF game and THANK GOD for that, that doesnt mean that many of us will not play other games, we have in in tournament stuff like: CvS2, SC2 (SC3 will be next I feel), T5, ST, KoF 98, GGXXR, etc… but playing what we love most is what it matters even if some comes to you and say: your favorite game sucks! --> but then I can say: I dont care if you think that A2 sucks, I love to play it every time that I can, hell: if by some reason I cant sleep at night and can always do something that I enjoy: turn on my TV, insert A2 in my Saturn and start playing vs CPU, even if Im playing agains an AI Im still playing what I love most and when the A2 tournaments come I will do everything that I can with the few that I know but on the end even if I win or lose I will be doing something that I LOVE SO MUCH and the best thing is that no ione needs to be good or great to play what he/she love so much, we do what we love to do, in one way this is what life is about: some people love to travel around the world, other some enjoy to drive fast cars in street racing way at night even if they have the cops in their tails, I never like SF3 series but I have for the love of God a game that I enjoy: Alpha 2 :lovin:
On the end and in a short version this is just to say that I agree with LAAkuma about not enjoying SF3 series, I understand that many people love 3S, everyone has the right to love and play what they enjoy most (this is why many of us live in a free country)
Maybe some day if Capcom release a SF game gold evrsion were players can select all the game types from WW to EX3 to 3S to A2 to A3 to ST, etc… (maybe in year 3859) then players who dont like parry can select for example A2 mode and a bastard character (like Ken in A2 or Chun LI, etc…) and turn on the CCs and when the 3S player tries to start making a full parry we can cay: try to parry this bitch!! --> c.HK into 65841654 hits) :arazz: Ya… I know… Im just posting bullshit but I tried to say why theres still people/players who dont like SF3 series (again just Imo and not trying to flame 3S players because everyone has the right to play what they love most)
Haha. They always come in here and say ‘how can you judge it when you dont know how to play it?’ This is mufugging SRK. Im sure people in here know how to play 3S. Theyre entitled to their opinions based on the time theyve spent with the game. Just as you are. If they dont like it, its upto them right? Just dont go around assuming people dont know how to play 3S.
Oh and about Blanka. So he is hard work to play right? Okay, ever heard of Sean? Or Hugo?
