Yeah, that’s a pretty good list. I’d probably add Blanka. He keeps low jump and his level 3, but gets to parry which is good being a “fat” character. Of course, he loses RC and Alpha Counter but that’s a fair trade depending on your style and that his AC isn’t high priority anyway. I like P-Rolento a lot…he just takes a lot of execution, prob. even moreso than Kyo imo.
I’m trying to get a good P sagat. P rolento is also really good but Imo, the very hardest. Kyo is up there too. It seems to me that Kyo’s combos are a little easier to do, and have a little less risk too. I can’t really figure out which is better in P, Sagat or Blanka. I think they are both good for certain matchups, but Sagat I think has some really bad matchups. Kyo’s mixups are just so powerfull, But you have to practice him SOOO much to be really good.
The characters that S4v mentioned as being good in P are basicallly right on. If you add Blanka and Yamazaki to that list, it’s the complete list of characters that I play in P. All I have to say is that, instead of going for a parry, go for a mixup. It’s safer, and there is a better chance That you will be successfull IMO. Work on people’s guard bar, get them to jump or do something risky.

The only bad matchup Sagat has that I know of is A Sakura. Either than that there really isnt a character he cant beat. IMO P Sagat is better than P Blanka but not by much. Mainly due to the comboability of Sagat more than Blanka. But thats just my opinion.
I think i’ve played you man. How i know is because only a few people play kyo at tilt and don’t scrub him out. Are you a black guy? if that was you , then you have crazy kyo. I won against you once, but that was because i got lucky, real lucky. You pulled off his combos with consistancy, and i can’t even pull off links that good.
yea thats me. I’m hardly at tilt so I never get a chance to talk or even play. The few times i do play i have rush off so that’s a lil annoying for me cuz i need a few games to get warm. If you guys have cars (i dont) you should go to svgl on weekends at night. Highest level competition.
Back to the thread. Sagat has more bad match ups than just a sak. The thing is when he gets the openings he does crazy damage and that sort of ‘levels’ the playing field for all the damage he takes while getting kept out by certain characters. But thats C sagat. P sagat has a harder time doing big damage but it seems he has an easier time getting in with the parry. Well maybe not that easy but getting in from the air is an option. Ok this is not about c vs p so i’ll keep it on track. P sagat is very immobile and thats a problem, add to that fact he has some really annoying match ups, and he doesen’t have the super every 30 seconds. This is the reason i assume the japanese players put him in the middle. He can deal that super hella fast in one opening and he’s pretty solid to kill any mid character but I guess they wouldn’t want him to anchor because depending on him to hold it down is a lil shakey. His good points are basically he deals good damage off of normals per opening and he has almost every situation covered - anti airs, footsies, combos, and long projectile games. A few parries and you can take fools out.
Blanka vs Sagat in p is weird. I do not like p blanka because i don’t think he benefits very much from the parry. He just seems to be a pretty mobile, high priority, character. I think he’s pretty generic but that doesen’t mean he’s not a decent character. I don’t see the great options for for the parry but he benefits heavily from the hop and low jump tho. Thats the only reason i didn’t list him. Also the american and japanese p groove players seem to use blanka a lot so my opinion of him don’t really seem to coincide with whats goin on. I think blanka is more mobile than sagat and sagat is more dangerous overall once you get really comfortable with his limitations. So I like sagat in p in the long run.
Now lastly comes rolento who i’m gonna agree with LTB with about being possibly harder to use than kyo. I’ve been using him for over a month now and i struggle a lot. A LOT. Its pretty bad. I miss a lot of patriot circle combos that cost me a lot of matches. Rolento is a weird character that I like more and more every time I play. My team is fuckin tight now and I never want to change it and i wont. But its pretty hard man. As far as vids I have some out there. They’re not that good but they’re out there. I’ll send you some on aim this weekend cuz i’ll make more when i go to svgl. Casuals but i’ll send em.
Yeah I pretty much aggree with you about Sagat. He has some real problem matchups. Blanka doesen’t really gain that much from a parry, but he is just so strong in other areas. Besides that, I’m not going for parries into combo or super, I’m trying to mixup into super. You have a better chance of success, and it’s safer to do so. I can down parry into s.FP xx Direct Lightening, it’s not too tough, it’s just that nobody is gonna try to hit you low most of the time so it’s hard to do. Blanka has quite a few CC escape options too that are really easy to do. He’s got a lot of stamina. His jumping FP is 2 frames and does 1400dmg, thats like a DP thats safe and only used for AA, best AA in the game if you have a short jump(IMO). With the short jump he has some really good setups into his super, but the thing about blanka is that he really doesen’t need to use his super to win. Thats one of the attributes of a good P character. Yeah, he can’t really capatalize off of a parry in a big way, thats his drawback. I believe that it still may be better in dealing with more characters than P sagat. It’s easy to get fustrated with P sagat sometimes. Try playing a skilled Blanka, Chun-li, Sakura, or Cammy. I would say they give P sagat the most problems, and Blanka seems to do better in all of those matchups. Then again maybe not, hmm, i’ll keep working on this question.
The Japanese were saying that it’s good to find characters that have the fewest weaknesses. Like P Kyo, Rolento, Cammy. One of the big reasons is that, Chun-li and sakura can wreak shop on you if you can’t duck certain moves. Only kyo is suseptable to chun-li’s SBK. This team isn’t limited by there size, comboability, or poking really. It’s mainly just the stamina factor. So In the middle I put Blanka where Rolento should be. In theory, If played really really well, Rolento would just own. It doesen’t always work out like that tho, and It’s a good thing to have a buff no-brain(j/k) character like blanka to make up some of the difference. Kyo is all skill too btw, but atleast he is a little safer than Rolento.
Kyo just as alot of really good mixups, and tons of ways to land his super. Basically, Kyo w/o a short jump is a waste of Kyo’s power. Add a parry which you don’t really need, just as a bonus. His mixups after a knockdown, or off of his shorts are really powerfull. He’s just really technical.
Option Select - Joystick and button input that simultaneously functions as multiple possible actions, automatically choosing the best possible counter to several of the opponent’s options.
“d/f”-haha,no you just tap,lets say “down” then attack almost at the same time,so you can parry anything comming at you and if nothing thenyou can hit them at the same time,
Example-sakura does c.jab then walks forward so you tap down and F.p at the same time(almost,down slightly before)so if she went for the throw you tech,if she c.k or c.p you parry .into F.p
Jamall, your match video is pretty funny. It’s ok to put Sagat or Cammy as your R2. People won’t say anything… Ratio 2 Rolento who does parry, d.LK xx nothing isn’t worth it if you ask me.
Props for playing P-Kyo though. He’s not easy to use.
