Dude, this is soooooooo deep.

Shoryuken - Wakeup, Shoryuken E054 - Sentinel Nerf Special

Its basically saying that due to technology progressing in our society it is becoming easier for video game companies to control their games and in a sense control competitive communities. With this patch for Sentinel out it is decreasing the use of Sentinel and now us as a community needs to change and grow as players and learn to play this game in a different way. If we don’t the competitive community will die slowly because we won’t learn or adapt to the game. It leads to believe that the companies are controlling the competitive play level. Now people will need to learn this game from a different angle. It wasn’t the low level communties or high communties truly affected by this change (because we learned to adapt to him and get how to fight him) and it wasnt the low level players (because scrubs love playing him and getting easy wins.) It was mid level play.

I agree with Kryonik

Hi there is a tourney in OUR STATE. is anyone going to this?

Yeah, figures you guys would do that. Just troll.

Think about it, a giant patch like that so early truly shows where we are at this point in time and what it means to competitive gaming and who they are listening to. They don’t care about our opinion or what Sentinels capabilities are at high level. They don’t care that WE figured out how to beat Sentinel…but 80% of the world has not. WE are the minority and they will do what pleases the general public…not us. Thus, making it a weak competitive title and just keeping it fun.

If you look at it first glance it really does seem like it could be aimed at us…but if you think about it…it’s not. No one complained about the Akuma infinite…so why are they taking it out? They’re trying to make sure MVC3 does not turn out to be anything like MVC2. Kill the competitive game. I’m just going to keep playing this game for fun. Like, just think about all the things they’ve been adding to the game as well. (Shadow Mode, Event Mode) but not even touching the problems with online that players hate. It’s meant to look competitive, not be competitive.

We?! Us?$ stfuwts! We. . . . You didn’t do shit so cut that shit out.

They didnt alter anything in MVC2 and it was still competetive as hell. Hence the reason it was still in tourneys for 10 YEARS!!! Even with all the infinites in the game, it was still a super competetive game. I may be out of touch with this but I think the reason behind the VS. series was how flashy it could really be. Infinite combos, so many characters on the screen at once so that you dont know what the hell is going on? It was all awesome. SF is what it is. 1v1. VS. series: 1v1 and progressed to 3v3. Its like tourrettes. It may seem like something bad, but when you see it in action, HOLY SHIT ITS AWESOME!!

Maybe you should read what I said again and stop being dumb? I meant WE as a COMPETITIVE COMMUNITY not WE as in ME and EVERYONE.

You’re missing the point. They COULD NOT alter anything in MVC2.

Look at:

Smash 64
Super Smash Brothers Melee
Third Strike
KOF 98
MVC2
Guilty Gear
Blaz Blue (not cont shift)
SFT2
X-Men Children Of The Atom

and then at:

Super Smash Brothers Brawl
SF4 and then the differences and changes in SSF4
MVC3
Blaz Blue Cont Shift

It’s not only that competitive games are slowly dying…but that it is much easier to fix a game even if it does have the ability to become competitive. So like, lets say MVC3 WAS found to be extremely competitive and we are all super hypo excited, right? Like, lets just say the game is just fine and dandy now and then we learn yo! we found this infinite or yo, this combo works and now we can do xxxxx. Video Game companies now at the drop of the hat have the ability to kill any form of competitive edge in a game now due to “updates” and live changes. Years ago? No. Games HAD to stay the way they were and the competitive communities would win. It’s like the fight against hacking video game systems. Remember the original Xbox? You could go on xbox live and be amazing at halo and use glitches and stuff or go online with your NES emulation or whatever. Now? due to live gaming Microsoft goes “lol” and hush hush on your system. Same with the psp and the ps3 changes.

Live updates will kill competitive gaming and be a force to keep games balanced, user friendly, accessible, and simple.

Think about Sentinels nerf. Why wouldnt they nerf his damage? Why did they choose health?

Simply put, the lower end level players. We didn’t care about his health because we are able to learn to get around that. We hated his damage output. So why not do damage output? Lower level players don’t know how to abuse his damage output. We do. Lower level players go, “omg! I can’t kill this idiot!” We go “dude, that shit is so easy and so much dmg” But heres where its get interesting. The health drop also affects us because of the amount of health drop and the fact that since we know 800K combos or whatever Sentinel is merely half useless to us now where as to lower level players…hes just okay now. But to us, hes closer to totally out the window because of his lack of offensive potential. The only reason to really keep him on your team now is…the assist. He’s too susceptable to getting too much dmg at high levels of play because of the instant overheads half the cast can pull on him now. So basically, it benefits the lower level players and degrades the high level players. The perfect nerf.

This game is hindering to scrubs, not to high level players who are the minority.

This part made me LOL. What’s this “we” business? You wanted to ban Sentinel.

well regardless, i never used sentinel nor did i care. I just hated him cause of Craig. FUCK YOU CRAIG FOR BEATING ME AT THE TOURNEY!!! lol. For those not going to Souper Bowl, hope to see you at PNT tomorrow.

Learn to read. This isn’t about Sentinel as a character or about what I thought. It’s about controlling gaming and shaping them after launch to be whatever a company wants it to be and influencing how it is played and how from low to high level gamers perceive it.

This has nothing to do with what I thought.

And you guys think I’m the stupid one? Okay. I’m done typing. I was trying to spark an intelligent discussion. I went to the wrong place. Bye.

Bye!

Implying capcom couldn’t release a new version of MvC2 like they did with SF2, and SF3.

smell ya bro. you cant be like “honestly guys do you think sentinel should be banned i mean really hes kinda crazy” and then try and spark an intelligent discussion about how ridiculous it is that they nerfed his health. stop being a fucking retard dude. people might like you just a bit more. that or go back to gamefaqs and smash. im sure you’re loved there.

Anyone got a marvel session going on today after 930ish?? I want to get some practice in beofre tomorrow

But it wouldnt be the same game. People want to play the same game and if it wasn’t the same idea, less people would buy it. Lets face it, the majority of people who bought mvc2 online are people who thought it was so fun and did not understand it at high levels or people who loved it at high levels. They do not NEED to change it. If they changed an old game their intentions would be incredibly obvious because an old game has been altered making the idea of diminishing competitive play completely obvious and inevitable. its like, lets say they remade halo I. Would they change the pistol? if so, it would make the game not what it once was and obvious that its hindering towards new people who demand balance and fun as opposed to broken, technical, high level, competitive.

Dude, that crap was like 1-2 weeks ago. Did you guys hear about Tokidos Akuma when Keits was talking about his skills on the stream? Videos of his Akuma were released a week prior to that stream and his Akuma looked pretty good…but not what everyone thought. Then he teams with Ricky and Wong on stream and blows everyone the fuck up like a week later. Remember how we established a BNB for Iron Man and then like a week after everyone found a better BNB to build better meter and get better corner positioning?

The progression of growth and developent for MVC3 is insanely high and, insanely fast. What’s not to say that through my growth as a player it lead me to realize that I was indeed wrong about my initial thought? It’s basically like this: We all thought Sentinel was BUST when the game first came out, right? But then high level players go “well, okay. hes not. this works, this works, and hes not so good!” but everyone else goes, “awww shit. I have to find what works!” and it takes a longer period for a majority of us to learn a game. Skisonic did a few interviews at Winter Brawl and I remember him ending an interview saying “Well, guys, for those of you who thought Sentinel was unbeatable…he is beatable. You just have to find things that work” and hes right. Hes basically saying that “high level players have found ways to do it…you have to go do it now.” IMO, high level players are Justin Wong, Tokido, Dieminion, MarlinPie, etc. Not state regulars or people who occasionally get some good wins. People who KNOW their shit and can do it consistently. Not to bash anyone of you guys, (Really, i dont mean to) but I don’t look at anyone in CT as high level. So like Justin and Floe are learning at a faster rate than us because they know certain tricks at high levels. We will eventually learn and see what they see…but at a slower rate. So basically, we all learn at different rates. I learned later that Sentinel is indeed beatable and not ban worthy. You all saying “you thought sentinel was BROKEN” says that you simply don’t think im learning this game with you? That’s just a horrible and impossible statement. Which ties back to my whole point of looking at what Capcom did with Sentinel and WHY they chose to kill his health and not his dmg, or armor frames, the assist, or whatever.

Yes, I did indeed say that but if you read a few posts back i took back what i said about having him banned even before this podcast was released. I stated that hes not that good as long as you really don’t hit buttons because his offense isn’t really that scary. I’m not missing out on anything im saying here and you all are trying to find ways to make my claim not legitimate or accurate. STFU and drop the egotistical online bandwagon joke “everyones making fun of him so im going to do it” bullshit, because its stupid.

You all say that I should stop saying stupid things and posting horrible information and then post good material and now you’re all like “lol, but you said stupid stuff BEFORE” negating the fact that i’m moving forward and you’re the ones being stupid now.

I thought you left.

I thought you left too.

If 7th at a major (myself) and 5th at a major (rob) isnt high level then you can go sit on your thumb and rotate. Whenever you decide to actually go to a tournament (those even in your state) let me know. Otherwise you should get a hobby you arent so terrible at not only arguing about, but also competing and playing in.

Wow. You really are stupid. High level is not doing it once or twice, its doing it consistently and understanding why you win consistently and knowing the games ins and outs and the ins and outs of each match up.

High level is the ability to pick up any character and look like you main them, knowing match ups, keeping up to date w all of the latest information. Having good competition locally to stay on top. Why do you think ct and mass aren’t as good as ny or cali for example? They have better competition and constant growth. You did a kickass job 1 to 3 times. Awesome. I think its great what you did and I won’t take that away from you. Do that all the time like justin, floe, tokido, combofiend, air, daigo. That is high level play.
