You’re improving but you need to AA more (I think I saw 3 in a 11 minute video) and use more overhead!!!
@AOS
It is always a shame when nerves get to you and you miss a golden opportunity to convert into big damage. (Confirms or punishes)
Happens to me all the time too.
I think you would have won every match in that vid if you confirmed every hit or punished properly, but I guess you know that already.^^
Played against two different Codys, the first SevenDaggers is a totally accomplished player in one match he hits a FADC-combo with 4 1Framers in it and he also antiairs everything and is extremely patient.
Second Cody Head Colector is more on my level and I managed to win the set.
My main fault in the matches was, that I was constantly surprised by being able to punish or hit confirm, so I messed up often.
I am glad for additional advice.
SevenDaggers:
Head Colector:
1st vid 5th match 2nd round…proves to me…you need to be looking for opportunities to mindhump repeatedly, and more frequently.experiment more w ur gameplay…ufk scores, at about 88-87 seconds to go,your blocked lk tatsu should have landed w ex or applicabe tatsu/kongos or esp ex flippy!, if reversaled, which seemed slim theres a chance possibly you send him into tightrope mode where he second guesses pressuring u wit a nice kongo or tatsu to blw up tat final tu hit…
empty nj`s should be buffering iat either before peak height or right after i f you dont see opportunity for nj hp>pain train, from so close tho he controls or commands the immediate charcter length in front of himself with tornado upprs and srkicks, shit ex slide too, puts you at risk, and unfavorable spacing if nj’ing.,.
fa’ing within metered stockked footsie range obv doesnt work here, if you must fa, do so only at the outskirks as you plan to enter and engage at the brink of his footsie radius but not closer.
mix in some dash in after kd, specifically after hard knock you need to threaten ambiguous gflip to dive kick, use that as your lucky feather and if not, when you do jump into early and stand waiting say fuck it and ex flip or sometin to threaten or acheive a hard to or unblockable dive kick…
bait his ex wakeups from hard knock with some jump ins to os exflip slide in his face or nj iat or land crossup side wit a whiffed flip throw for ultra punish.
use more mk jump ins,
meep meep…
This set up vs. Gouken is pretty tough.
I remember playing this one El. F and he would mix these versions up with one that goes past Goukens center so he’d whiff mix up and avoid tatsu at the same time. If you back dash you’d back dash right into him and he’d grab, or if you jumped out you had to be sure to neutral so you can trip guard or tech when you land.
He can even OS dp slam, ex run, Ultra 1, or Ultra 2 after the whiffed tortilla which makes it that much more retarded. There’s only a few ways out and they all seem to be risky as hell.

i think everyone may have our gouken gflip shit but in their own versions…ive sen that same tough shit…ima look at vids more thoroughly…
so does this mean each individual situation will have as many correct answers if setup varies from above…i mean if hes dialed in like we are on gflip(any fuerte) invincibile startups are the only way to escape…?
and damn why can our armor cancel work like that for us w kongo…shiiiiiiit id be like triplekongo vs ex hand all day…hmmm but thenfeels kinda 3rd strikey…but hey
i know w spacing and situational differences it can vary. …this perhaps one of the most irritating part ofthis matchup
Thanx for that advice Takin, haven’t even heard or thougt about buffering air tatsu while njumping before, thats awesome.^^
I will work hard to get better.
fuck working hard just dont be afraid to freestyle, once in a while…
My execution is still not good enough to freestyle often so i have to work, lol.^^
nearly landed a full FADC combo in the corner tody though and by not completing it fully I dizzied the dude of one hit after.
Thats hard on Honda, dude was dead afterwards.^^
i see alot of goukens hold off on opportunitiesbecause theyre waiting for tat kongo fadc in the corner ultra or hoarding meter just to mp fadc fb fadc mp fadc zzzzzz…or sittin on meter to just finish ex palm with fadc dash ultra…keep in mindthere tons of stuff to use meter for and you didnt get 13k w poor execution…your probablyonly at 13k plateau cause of how you wish to play…freestyle…
ive decided to run a quick sorta chronology for critique. ive only recently added things like playing w focus and os in late 2012.
in early 2012 i knew his new backdash was a big change for me, i was never strong wit fadc or focus attack at that point, knowing id have to perfect everything to be good or a serious threat. i still use denjin like 10% only.
So heres some old shit. …critique pls…this helps me with deep gameplay strats, cadence, and new iapproaches to long standing deeply instilled bs ill have some losses coming up too w fights from a bad day out vs o mohib o a jpn yun w strong ryu and cammy alts…for now heres a look as things have developed since beggining of last year.
Although all victories, its this auto pilot bs that gets me hung out to dry always looking for the same shit. …openings etc, a good couple subjective views or so could help me open up to new things.

Uh.
Why isnt this thread on the top?
I’m bumping this without shame or regret.
I think you can save your ex a bit more. For some of your positioning you are using EX but you can use another strength… especially when you cancel into from afar. It puts you right where MK/HK can put you from afar. The invincibility frames are only good up close, unless you are purposely trying to auto-track. Another good thing about this is you can get cross ups from mid screen, but if you EX you are less likely b/c of auto-track.
This will also lend you more meter for EX Tatsu.
But that means on wake up sometimes you will have to block or back-dash instead of G Flipping out, but I know how you hate to block on wake LOL, but that might be the only way to save meter.
But, I think by vortexing and positioning more efficiently, you can have meter punish or EX Tatsu them for trying to chase you down.
I think you missed some opportunities to pin down with dive kick or cross up mk, but you used dj. lk instead. They both work but you can combo after mk or dive kick. I normally do the dj. lk cross up as a mix up > bait b/c of the no-combo/reversal factor.
That was probably the biggest take aways for me.
this is what I needed…
hmmmmmm…me likely…
I’m gonna post losses soon also, my recent losses…the critiques I get on both parts is gonna really help…thanks

I don’t like how I back up so easily and how I get intimated with little effort. What would you say are some of the things that particular Cody did I could potentially turn on him?
Cody dominates Gouken in footsies. You should be making space. I say don’t play to your character’s weaknesses, so back up all day. The backing up is fine. The reason behind the backing up, I’m not so sure about. There’s backing up because you are playing scared, and then there’s backing up to put him in bad spacing; to make his offense more difficult to start and to catch him when he tries to enter your zone. 1 little training square can make a difference.
As far as turning his game around on him, I lost count of the amount of times he jumped in on you for FUCKING FREE! Seriously dude, work on your anti airs or all that backing up is for nothing. If I was that Cody I would have just jumped all over you and either bingo or throw you…all day. If you feel that your AA game is weak, go play ONLY AA in endless. Throw hella fireballs and make them jump in. Work on those reactions and what to watch for to AA in time. Cody can be beat with all your AAs but the spacing is tougher with him.
Also, he was pushing forward with little strings, pause, little strings, pause, focus, etc…trying to frame trap you. This is a strong strategy until Gouken starts kongoing that shit. KONGO THAT SHIT. Then he has to use less safe advances. Even if he beats your kongo…he sees you do it and he realizes he can get blown up just as easily as you. I say ex kongo when he’s pulling that nonsense.
He also like to ex ruff kick through. If you simply neutral jumped when you saw him moving forward (before he even does the move), he will most likely end up eating a full chop BnB.
Thinking back, I i think it’s because he got me scared from his random MK ruffians so I kept backing up to stay out of that range. At the same time, when I condition myself to move back to that range, I tend to autopilot a fireball which then gets jumped in on. Sometimes it’s so hard to distinguish doing something random or doing it predictability; my opponent or myself.
I would imagine EX kongo would close that frame trap stuff down. It’s just that I keep wanting to do a low kongo to catch a cr.lk, but it seems cr.jab can’t be low parried. Reason why I wouldn’t opt for EX so soon is that I’d be out of meter in no time!
Suppose I do in fact go with this plan and I get him with an EX kongo. I’m going to have to start replenishing on meter. I know right off the bat I can throw a fireball for free. The second one can also be done freely as well. What now? I can’t always go for a third, he just might get around that rather easily. And for the meter built from 3 fireballs, I haven’t made back a single bar and he may as well be back in already. What now? How would you structure your game plan from here on forth?
Also, in regards to the “backing up” thing, I have something to bring up in regards to doing that against Fei Long: Matchup in AE: Gouken vs Fei Long
I don’t understand why you back up because of mk ruffians.
If you can read them like against the guy above just neutral jump him into death.
If you just wanna preemptively stop them, hado?
Firstly, if you knock Cody down and can get in on him, you need to pressure his wake up. His isn’t that great. Throwing a fireball for chip and a bit of meter is fine but it can’t be the only thing you do. As for building meter, I build meter with safe strings xx block/backdash/focus/kongo. You can add more meter by doing kongo immediately after fireballs if you are full screen. I very rarely ever worry about my meter…I actually worry more when I have full meter because I tend to accidentally trigger Super at the wrong damned times.
But before you start worrying about meter, how about those AAs.
