Critique us thread

I guess you’re right lol. I dont know why I didnt think about that. I’ve been trying to work a little more on my defense and not flip on wakeup but you’re right…in that situation I should because it will OS depending on where he’s at.

I guess I need some critiquing, I feel as though I’ve plateaued. Maybe it’s just a product of playing infrequently (usually once a week), but some days I play like absolute ass.

Overall you did great man. Seems like you know a lot of the matchup but there were a few things missing. You have to kongo Sims limbs. We’re probably the only people in the cast that can actually do something about that. He was poking you to death and it looked like he only took damage from you when he telported in trying to mix you up and ate kongo. Also, you should use cl.st.hk when he teleports. Kongo is great but it pushes him full screen which is exactly where he wants to be and where you dont want him to be. Sims wakeup is horrendous and with all of our vortex options he’s dead up close, its not even funny. So, kongo limbs, focus through a bit more and go for knockdowns over damage. But you did really well and I look forward to seeing some other matches.

Gief fight- I gotta say man, theres nothing to really say here because you did good. One thing I can say is that you need to AA Gief more with EX Tatsu. He never really jumped right over you so it wasnt obvious but Giefs diagonal jumping hp has a really far reach and you’ll find that they jump from a distance. Ex Tatsu eats that shit. GF throws OWNS Gief. All they can do is backdash so test the waters, see how frequently they backdash and abuse is sparringly. Also dive kick safe jump him off of sweep and f.throw as much as possible…again, all they can do is backdash which you can OS with anything.

Ryu fight - You have to learn to punish better. There was a point where he whiffed and U2 and you swept him. Theres was another point where he did and EX dp on you in the corner that you blocked, he came down on the other side (in the corner), you had 3 bars and a full U2 and you did backthrow (out the corner) into Denjin. You probably could’ve taken off about 60% of his bar and then he would have still been in the corner for more mixup, stun and ultimately death. With Ryu try to stay about half screen and throw lp hado’s continuously until he jumps over and then tatsu him. Any closer and he’s probably gonna ex hado you to death which is hard to react to and defend against because we dont have an offensive moves of that nature.

Adon fight - This is a tough because we both now how hard this fight is. One thing that I’ve been learning lately is that everyones defense is worse than their offensive. For people Gouken has a tough time with, personally, I attack the shit outta them. For characters like Akuma, Ibuki, Adon, Sakura, Blanka, Bison…those characters that you find yourself in the corner holding down-back alot…I just go on offense and all out. If you dont you’ll just be back in the corner blocking again. You’ll find that they have holes in their game just like everyone else but you never would have known just taking a beat down and mixup after mixup in the corner until you’re dead. Make THEM defend. Matchup specific, poke with f.st.hp and f.st.mk as they both stuff Jaguar Kick. Throw mp hados continuously until he gets Ultra and then just do a bit of attacking and poking trying to keep him at bay. You did well in all of these though man so excellent play.

thanks for the advice! I’ve never thought about using cl.st.hk in the sim matchup, it seems like it would be really effective. its going to be tough using that though because I rally love the way kongo looks :stuck_out_tongue:

Hahaha, well using cl.st.hk requires no guessing of where he’s gonna teleport, you just push a button. And as long as you’re kongo’ing those limbs you’ll still get to see plenty of kongo animation lol

Ok this is better than a link

Tried critiquing myself but was interested if anyone had anything to add.
I don’t know what the hell I was smoking during the first match but played better on the runback

Thanks

Lol, great fights but you won all of these man. It’d be better if you had some loses for us to critique so we could maybe pinpoint a weakness or somethings you may not see or do.

Holy shit!!! Those effects and that skin is the baddest shit I’ve ever seen lol. In that second fight Gouken looks like one of those blue dudes from Uncharted2 haha. You pretty much critiqued yourself here but I’ll chime in. In that last match you got a crumple and had full ultra but swept instead. Even if they’re falling and you backdashed on focus, you can still get full Ultra animation and worst comes to worst the multi hit which damn near does almost what the full one does lol. Another thing is you have to train yourself to pick up on patterns. Its such a hard thing to do I know, and you seemed to pick up on them after watching it back but you gotta try and do it in match. With you mounting defense, trying to defend and everything, like I said, I know its difficult but in a sense you have to so you dont keep getting hit by the same things. I’ve smacked my head many of times getting hit by the same thing over and over and over again. Last thing is you need to throw more hados. You seemed to only throw them after a kongo or tatsu when he is full screen. Sure its a zoning tool but they’re all essentially a footsie tool as well. Throw them half screen and just make sure you’re on point with your AA’ing. Shit, throw them right in someones face…they will just block because no one expects a fireball that close. They will have to get lucky and be jumping right as throw to punish you…just throw them. People say its lame but everything in this game has a counter and its the other persons job to figure out a way around it. Other than that you did well and make Gouken look badass lol.

Thanks Sky, Didn’t know I could ultra a crumple after a backdash! Will definitely do that in future.
I always have a hard time with picking up patters cause I’m focusing too much on what happening at the moment instead of drawing on what I’ve learned from previous. Will take some work to change that habit thats for sure
To be honest, I’ve only ever thought of hados as zoning or for combos. The thought of using them in footsies never crossed my mind lol.

Thanks man, great advice and I’ll definitely take it on board. In fact, trying to get in to an 8player tournament tonight where winner gets winterfest tournament fees paid for so will try this if I get in

hahaha thanks. I love the freedom on the PC version. Still working on turning the inner fireballs from blue to black, giving him Oni-like aura and adding either trails when he palms (like E.Ryu when he teleports) or the clone effect the twins have during their super/ibuki during her dash
His Denjin is yellow and has yellow sparks coming out of it and the ‘ink splashes’ of ultra1 are also yellow & black. Going for yellow black theme on my stick so wanted him to match lol

Sure you Ultra a backdash. Just make sure you wait a split second though. When they crumple they do so in a forward motion so focus crumple, wait a tinsy bit until they’re falling toward you and the Ultra hits fully. I think if you do it immediately you’ll just get the multi hit.

I wish I could do something like that and add effects and changes. I think I’d get so caught up in that that I would never play the game though hahaha. I would love to see how things turn out when you get everything done. And I’ll be at Winterfest too (first tourney) so see ya there!

Bumping for great justice

Thanks Reipin. This should be stickied considering the small number of members who frequent this sub-forum…

Kay I’ve got a small job for you guys:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nukDgtNqvfM

Haven’t played against this guy enough, he pulled out stuff I ain’t ever seen before.

Aos, against Honda, use your meter for ex tatsu.
Pressure him with lp. fireballs and feints.
Try to get him to jump into a feint and then drill him with ex tatsu.
It does 200 damage and he can’t stuff it with his varied, badass air attacks, so he won’t like that at all.
The Honda should try to inch his way in on the ground, giving up chip damage to get into position to hit you.
If he gets you close to or into the corner, find a good time to jump over him and hk. air tatsu to the other side.
There’s some play outside of it, but that’s the blueprint for causing Honda trouble.
I watched about half of your series with him and didn’t see much anti-air from you.
Hitting people out of the air with ex tatsu is important for Gouken.
He needs to convince the other player not to jump so much, especially online.

Heh, tho, some might say, he needs to convince people that jumping is a good idea, when it isn’t.

Well I guess that you need to work on your hado, room for throw it and angle to throw it… Against Honda you need to spam hado because the only way he can go through them is with ultra 1, you need to keep your space of 2 or 3 characters away from him and spam hado. Second, don’t do palm unless it’s a juggle from air hado because he can punish it with his sumo slash or jab and don’t play footsies with him, that doesn’t work against him bro… Work on your AA and keep throwing hado, there’s no way he can get in

I think what was going on throughout the match was that I ended up switching to pokes because I got scared after he read my fireballs a few times. That said, I mentally back down too easy if I get read a few times consecutively, and I start autopiloting again.

Also, he made it damn clear it’s high risk to try at a parry after HHS on hit or block.
