Copy THIS! The Taskmaster thread!

I know, I’d like someone to test Doom, not just ‘lol guiz look, he’s got stomps rocks and photon shots, Doom 4evar.’ We’ve yet to see Hidden Missile!

I’d think Hidden Missile would be good in that it tracks, and is a vertical assist projectile, so you can’t jump it, and the delay sounds useful. I’m just interested, I’d like to experiment.

Also, just thinking aloud, if you want to go for a crossup, you could do something like call Doom rocks, Superjump so your opponent is offscreen, and as soon as you pass them use aim of hawkeye straight down.

We have seen hidden missile used a few times on point, it’s back+c. It’s apparently a pretty good assist also. For dorm I think dark hole assist is best by a mile.

about taskmaster arrows, we’ve seen 3 ground versions (straight, 30 degree up and up/down), 3 air versions (straight, d/f, straight down), the ground super, and 2 air supers (straight and d/f).

Taskmaster seems to look more and more like a really good point character. i hope he is playable at the next fightclub here in LA.

I want to put Taskmaster on my team but I’ve seen some videos of MODOK having better synergy with Doom’s assist. I hope he has some more zoning tools like MODOK.

i believe taskmaster will be a easier character to use on point

I just love how Taskmaster has so many options, you can run away with arrows, try and get to em with web swing and do huge damage, or you can let non keepaway characters just come to you which allows you to try and guess and counter. Seems like an “all-around” character, which I like a lot. Can’t wait to get my hands on him.

Quoted for truth

He’s mine GO AWAY D:<

But… I love him

Guys! There is enough Taksmaster for everyone!

Especially for me.

Yeah, his versatility is good, unfortunately, he doesn’t seem like he will excel at any playstyle the same way other characters do. He lacks the mobility to play keepaway or rushdown alone, his options are spread out, but it ends up leaving him as consistent across the board- just consistently average. We shouldn’t just blindly claim he’s awesome at everything- from what we’ve seen and the tools he has, he’s definitely not bad IMO, but he definitely also won’t be as good as characters like Ammatersu.

He won’t be rushing anyone down unless he has an assist locking them down- not if he wants to win, anyway. He doesn’t have any mobility options to help him get in or run away, besides swing, he has terribad tier mobility. If he rushes someone down, he can blockstring a few things, but he doesn’t have any really good mixups on his own either- he can swing safely on block, but he doesn’t have anyway to open them up unless he’s running a low or overhead assist, which is yet another slot he would require just to function as a passable rushdown.

His pressure is pretty laughable, because he’s only got two ways to overhead, and both are easily blockable on reaction, so you can just crouch block, and if you see him start his spin on the ground that precedes the overhead, just standup and hold block. Or, if you’re crouching and he jumps and starts to swing, standup and hold block, after swing he’ll try to overhead you, so block high, and when he’s too close to the ground to land an aerial, go back to crouch block, as he’s once again without ways to beat your block. With the way Advanced Guard is shaping up, it looks like he’ll be pushed off really quickly anyway.

His keepaway isn’t looking to be anything special either. He’s got aim of hawkeye, and it’s a good projectile, but it definitely isn’t Spiral’s swords, he can’t throw it out, it’s not something that is especially better then other’s projectiles. He doesn’t have traps to keep them out, he doesn’t have mobility to run away- he really can’t play keepaway very well, it’s pretty much just pepper them with AoH until they get in, he can’t stop them getting in, only hamper them while they do.

I like TM as much as anyone here, but I, and everyone else here, need to be more realistic, and less fanboy-ish.

Well the thing is, we don’t know what he is capable of yet. We have some info from a short trailer and two match videos but surely they didn’t show everything the character is capable of.

I don’t think I would call peoples reactions fan boyish, I would just say they are excited for a character. I know I plan on learning Tasky not matter how bad people say he is.

Also in regards to what you said about his pressure, if he was to jump up, swing, call low assist and then drop down and attack it seems like he’d be awesome in that situation.

Taskmaster is gonna be my Steve Rogers substitute, assuming Captain America is as terrible as it appears right now.

But we have seen the majority of his tools- if he had an airdash, if he had something that would majorly factor into his game, we’d have seen that. What we’ve seen was made to showcase his potential and hype people about the character, if he had something major, we’d have been shown it.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t use him, just that so far the responses have been polarized and don’t focus on his gameplay core.

Yeah, but he needs that assist to make his pressure work- other characters aren’t handicapped like that. Additionally, with his poor mobility, he needs an assist to get in- to get his rushdown to the level good characters are at by themselves. He’s forced to take certain teammates just to be competent.

If ground horizontal or air down diagonal Aim of Hawkeye are assists, I could see him replacing Doom or Amaterasu as an assist character. Right now he seems similar to Ryu on point, with a lack of mobility, but a nice, fast hyper that punishes full screen. It seems like you’re going to be fighting everyone on their terms, though, but still have options to counter anything they do. I’d guess that the best way to play him would be to not try to rush everyone down, but to beat them at their own game with your counters against rushdown and well-timed supers against keepaway.

I know, I guess I didn’t really come off like that with my post though. I didn’t say he was AMAZING at everything and he’ll definitely be defeated if he tries to outzone zoners, out-rush rushdown, counter grapplers… But being average at everything I think he’ll be able to change tactics completely to gain a chance against the various fighting arch-types. I like that a lot, he’s not the best at anything, but he has options.

Couldn’t this just be summed up as “he will be to vs what Ryu is to SF4”?

uhhh probably not - i think the best way to sum it up is “don’t get all crazy excited we don’t really know much about the character” lol

For someone who says this, you’re sure making a lot of fairly random assumptions.
