I wouldn’t want to call anybody out since a few visit these forums :razzy: If any of you top Claws disagree with my statement, I would gladly play a set to 10 (or 20 if you believe in fractions).
Is Chun Li is really a higher rank than Ken on the HDR tier list? That’s kinda hard to believe.
I wanna play.
Honda vs…
Ryu: 3-7
Ken: 2-8
E Honda: 5-5
Chun Li: 4-6
Blanka: 6-4
Zangief: 8-2
Guile: 4-6
Dhalsim: 5-5
T Hawk: 8-2
Cammy: 7-3
Fei Long: 7-3
Dee Jay: 3-7
Boxer: 4-6
Claw: 5-5
Sagat: 4-6
Dictator: 6-4
Aniken rated Ken vs Honda at 7-3 in ST, and from what I can see Honda has been given a move that destroys fireballs, a floating punch that floats more, a safer super and he can now hit sweeps easier. IMO if Aniken says ST is 7-3, then I believe HDR is more like 6-4. Honda no longer gets trapped badly against auto pilot fireball traps and in theory makes things a little more fair.
Ken got buffed, but his buffs don’t seem to make too much of a difference to that matchup (as opposed to giving him better fireballs for example). Strong shoryu is probably the only useful buff he got that’s relevant to that matchup. As for fierce shoryu, I don’t use it, but I presume it would trade. All of Honda’s buffs mean that Ken’s fireball game is diluted. This is pretty much negated with Ryu for having a stronger fireball game overall (not to mention knock down fireballs) and the fake fireball to more effectively bait a headbutt, which brings me to another point that I disagree that Ken has an advantage over Ryu vs Honda.
If anyone is confident that Ken vs Honda is still 8-2, please share your strategy (or indeed what you Honda players struggle with). I’m just not seeing it, but then again I may not be playing the matchup quite right.
Honda vs Zangief is 8-2, but I can’t see that Honda vs Ken is as hopeless as Zangief vs Honda.
IMO giving Ryu a fake fireball just to help out with one matchup (Dhalsim, one of the top tiers no less) is careless. It’s obvious that the move would have a knock on effect on all the other matchups where fireballs would normally be used. Maybe a better method would have been to maybe make the drill travel slower or hang in the air a few frames as kind of a startup.
totally agree with this
Honda neutral jumps are more dangerous because hp srk has a better arc. Hp srk always knocking down is also great for those times where it hits but doesn’t quite hit deep enough, as in ST honda would get a punish. Jab hados give honda fits, when combined with hp srk, and of course jab torpedo is highly overrated. Its ok when honda anticipates the hado, or is close enough to hit ken’s recovery, but its not THAT good.
The matchup is at least still 7-3 ken, assuming ken’s buffs didn’t make it worse, although thelo takes that into account with 7.5 - 2.5 ken.
Yeah Coth_X got it, the fierce shoryuken is the biggest reason why it’s not 6-4. Jab hadoken -> new fierce shoryuken shuts down most of Honda’s options at 75% range (early jab headbutt and empty jump-in do beat it though). I personally rate it at Ken 7-3 Honda (damn you damdai!), but others rate it Ken 8 - 2 Honda, hence the chart’s 7.5-2.5 rating.
It doesn’t help that Ken’s jab hadokens move so slowly that at slightly closer range he can walk behind them. It’s a real pain in the ass.
Thanks guys. I guess the answer is to scrub up and throw out fierce shoryus
I tend to go for slow/fast fireball traps and sweep buttslams on reaction (which seems to trade often) or walk up kneebash, but I never really could do anything if Honda was at full screen and did a jab headbutt. It’s like he was in the danger zone, and I was lost for what to do. It’s risky to try fireball traps at that distance when he has a super, and another jab headbutt through a fireball puts him in his prime spot.
Someone told me that I need to turtle around a bit. I tried turtling and he said to turtle more.
You know what, after today I’m inclined to believe you. I played billjmninja’s Ken, who by all account is AT LEAST solid (he can cr.lk into super, that requires some damn skill). I play a pretty decent Vega, have even beaten some very good Honda’s. I went 0-4, granted there were some bad spots of lag but regardless.
-Fireball-sweep trap, fierce SRK jump-ins
-Walldive is USELESS, seems like Ken can SRK every fuckin’ dive I do
-Cross-up tatsu kills your wake-up reversal
-Ken’s cr. lk kills Vega’s slide and cr. mk
-Vega’s weakness is tick-throws, Ken specializes in kneebash traps
Honestly if you and Blacmore/Shari/whoever want to play a set and record, I’d gladly watch that. I’d consider it a huge learning experience.
I’ve played Goldenarch before and he won quite a bit more than i did.
On the other hand I don’t tend to have much trouble with EU Ken players the only one that actually tends to be challenging is Dav35 so i am unsure if it’s Goldenarch just being plain better or as he says the matchup being in Ken’s favour or it’s simply the lag hindering.
I don’t mind recording some matches if he is up for it though.
Oh and Billjmninja’s forte lies in Ryu.
Best EU Ryu player i have ever played.
God, i HATE that thing sooooo much…
Yeah, i second that. I was just gonna post the same thing. By far the best EU Ryu i’ve played on XBL. He’s got a ridiculous reaction speed and can DP faster than anybody i know, and he’s a tricky bastard all round. Make one mistake and you’re dead, and if he decides to zone you out you can kiss the round goodbye. Fucker runs away every damn time i get super meter too…
Done! When? (However, I don’t know how much this will prove as it’s a Swede playing a guy from Michigan - the lag will unquestionably play a role in the matchup.)
^ Let me know when you guys do this, I wouldn’t mind joining in with my own Vega.
If they jab torpedo on reaction to a hado, you can walk up st.hk and at 3/4 screen walk up sweep.
Of course i do bro, i have a personal chart for my 3 characters(Ken, Honda, Deejay) that i use to play with, can i post it here or in The inevitable tier thread?, if my opinion could be useful, it would be a pleasure!
Considering the difference in timezones i’ll just add you and we’ll play whenever we both happen to be on.
Anyone can give their matchup ratings in this thread.
Use Cammy instead. That way we can fight to finally figure firsthand who the finest fair-haired fighter truly is.
