I’m surprised, considering that Snake has a possible 2-3 Seth’s (if you including fuudo), 2 feis, multiple Elena’s, and even some Sagats if you wanna count Mago and Xian. Tbh I have Snake going anywhere from 1-2 to 3-2 at best, basically because of character matchups only.
Fuudo would never use Seth against Gief, he’s the best at that matchup with Fei and I feel the matchup is only ass if Fuudo plays it, IIRC Snake Eyez has already beaten Gackt in the past and Gackt has a Sagat that beat Itabashi at one tournament so he’d probably go for the counterpick instead of risking it.
Dashio and Poongko are both problems (hell, I have Dashio taking Snake Eyez out of the tournament) but Elena not so much IMO. I myself believe it’s 5-5 but I’d agree if it’s a slight advantage for Elena, not counterpick-tier for me. I’d even argue that the only Elena that is a threat to Snake Eyez would be Gamerbee since he’s terrifying with the character, already beat Snake Eyez a couple of weeks ago and Snake Eyez doesn’t really have an Elena close to his level to practice, but he already took out Xian’s Elena at EVO so I don’t think he’d go there again when his Sagat beat Itabashi at the same tournament that Gackt did it. He’d probably do a counterpick dance ala Xiaohai vs Snake Eyez which would be interesting.
Overall his biggest threats would be the 2 Seths, Fuudo, Bonchan, Xiaohai, Daigo, Momochi, Tokido and Infiltration. Not good odds but hey he wouldn’t have to face any of them until a hypotethical top 8 so good for him.
Just to check so i don’t miss the entire thing. UK time this’ll be 18:00 on the saturday and finish 6:00 on the sunday morning (cause if so i got some sleep rescheduling to do)
I think top 3 will be Momochi, Infiltration, Bonchan. Can’t see anyone beating those guys to be honest, even though every match is absolutely stacked!
There’s gonna be a lot of pocket chun’s, abels and seths to deal with that pesky elena matchup (and i hear sagat somehow does well against her). Can’t wait!!!
Hard to say, I have about 5 people taking it…Daigo, Momochi, Bonchan, Nemo, Tokido. If Xian and Infiltration counterpick everyone every match (which they usually do), they have a chance to win.
Yeah I think he’s confused about T.Hawk when I think he’s recalling Infil using Hugo against Snake in GF at First Attack…
I’m sticking with MMM to pull it out. With the most USD on the line, he has all the intangibles and with the recent signing can probably relax a little more and pull out some wacky gdlk stuff. Plus I think he’s best for business, great personality, and just simply loves the game.
It’s awesome when you check the tournament result standings, and SRK posts the name and character used, with Infil it usually looks like his name +6 or more characters
Diago - E.Ryu
Momo - Ken
Poongko - Seth
Infiltration - Akuma, Decapre, Rolento, Elena, Gouken, Hugo, Juri, Abel
I’d use rose also. Heck I had names counter picking me with her at Evo. I don’t think the matchup is bad for Viper but she is really annoying and takes hard reads to beat a lot of stuff other people can just OS. Largely because Viper doesn’t have a jab->sweep OS that leads to a combo because of how her light normals work. If you get her to the corner though you can tear her apart for free, but her in the midscreen is a pain. Also doesn’t help that Vipers normals are slow as sin so you get a lot of abuse with drills unless Viper decides to do something super risky.
Elena since the Ultra update isn’t a bad matchup for Viper. Her only moves that low profile burnkick get her punished so the matchup definitely isn’t bad since she can combo her now. Also Elena’s meterless anti-air options aren’t super great and she is free on wakeup.
Bracket Predictions
Momochi has an easier bracket then Infil, Daigo, and Bonchan. Unless Poongko randoms him I don’t see him losing that side of the bracket as he has a strong record against Nemo and Gamerbee. All his problem matchups are on the other side of the bracket and going to kill themselves off. He could get beat but odds are pretty in his favor on that side of the bracket of making it out to winners.
The bottom bracket is just hard to predict. Because Daigo vs Tokido is a crapshoot but I’d favor Daigo vs Infiltration over Tokido. Bonchan looks like he has the easiest time of getting to round 4 in winners, unless kazunoko loses to 801 Strider then 801 Strider will be Bonchan’s only hiccup until Infiltration but Bonchan doesn’t know what the words rough matchup means and I just think Bonchan is a better player then Strider. So
Round 4 winners
Momochi
Nemo/Gamerbee
Infil/Daigo
Bonchan
That setup just screams Momochi grand finals. This could easily be a repeat by momochi. Coming against Momochi in when he is winners is just going to be brutal, so I hope there is something that throws a kink like Poongko who would make top 4 insane.
I swear to God, its absolutely brutal for us in the UK whenever there’s a tourney in the US because of the timezones difference. It sucks watching Evo and other tournaments because top eight and finals usually take place around 2-3 oclock in the stupid dead of the night and I show up really late for work and crawl through the day like a zombie.
For that to happen he would have to beat Poongko, Momochi, and the winner of Fuudo v Mago. No offense to Itazan, but I don’t see that happening. If he did it would be the underdog upset of the year and would be hype as fuck. The upper half of that bracket is stacked enough that I don’t even see them meeting in Losers unless Snake Eyez chokes early on (I’m stacking my hopes and dreams on Snake making it at the very least past Gamerbee, though my personal bracket has him losing to Nemo).
Man why does Daigo have to be so inconsistant this year. He’s just a huge wild card in my bracket either going to near the end (semifinals+) or going out 2-2.
Snake Eyes I don’t see making it into top 8. I have him getting top 16, but man … so many people I have in my list to actually win the tournament or make it to grand finals he has to play. Even when he goes out he gets stuck against Kazunoko or Bonchan. Sadly Snake Eyes is the only American player I think that can do better then 2-2 or 1-2.
How’s he inconsistent? He didn’t attend a lot of tournaments this year, did well in most of them and won Topanga League where consistency is the only thing that wins you the whole thing.
Keoma is free to pressure, Zangief is great at applying pressure. Seems like a good matchup for Snake imo, especially since he beat Shiro last night and consistently beats Strider (who plays the most like Keoma out of other Abel’s I’ve seen.)
