I recall there are some gambling related laws that are supposed to prevent prize pools at Japanese tournaments. It’s one of the reasons why SBO never had Evo size pots. Dunno how Topanga gets around this.
I think everyone is going to pick the shit that got them to the dance now. Infiltration COULD pick Guy and get away with it, but aside from November over here he’s been picking Decapre or Akuma for top 8 or finals, so we’re going to see his big characters for most of Capcom Cup me thinks with a smattering of hard counters peppered in when and if he needs them.
It has to do with having an entry fee and prize money. If you charge money to enter the tournament then you can’t have prize money since it’s considered gambling. Topanga probably gets around this by not charging anything to enter (and getting their money from the PPV’s instead).
Dunno. However, one of the conditions of running a Pro Tour event is that it can’t be part of a separate league or ranking. The only exception to this is CPT Asia, but then again, that’s still part of the Pro Tour.
What if they paid to enter a tournament and were offered food and drinks in addition? Would that still count as gambling, if they tried to “hide” the entrance fee of the tournament, into the price of the food and drinks?
I created a prediction bracket if people want to play around with it. Challonge only allows winner’s bracket predictions.
I hate to say it but I don’t think it’s going to go well for our Western Heroes, though lord knows I’m going to be rooting for Snake Eyez and 801 Strider the whole time.
Dieminion and Strider have the best shot of the Western players to make it through to finals. Snake Eyez could make top 8 but not much farther IMO, but he’s welcome to surprise me.
The problem though is that all American players have been stuck with hard match ups compared to other players. I’d say the closest match first round for an American is Dieminion and Daigo. If Strider manages to beat Kazunoko I’d have to call him as a huge favorite out of all Americans to win it. If he doesnt, it diminishes.
i also retract my statement about daigo winning. the order of the matches are vastly different than what i thought so he may have to play different people than what i originally thought
Don’t worry, he’ll inevitably have to face Xian, Infiltration, or Daigo so there’s no way that’s happening.
Looking back on it, I honestly think this is Tokido’s best chance to actually win something big, as long as he doesn’t choke of course. His bracket seems to be against either good character matchups, or players he has gone even with or beat pretty consistently. If he doesn’t win, I’m almost certain he’ll get at least 5th.
I have Tokido getting 7th just because I believe in Snake Eyez that much. In reality I think 5th is a real possibility since I just don’t believe he can take out Infiltration and I have Infiltration going far enough for Tokido to have to deal with him.
