Cant remember the last time i went to a major event and saw someone over 30 that wasnt administration or running the event. This is why i came in this thread. Because of dumbass people like this.
Age range of pro gamers = 18-25
Oldesnt player i know is Ronald Kim and hes 26. But he plays for CoL in CGS and gets paid more than youll ever dream of…
Lol he’s just angry…but seriously, he’s got some points. People in tight communities sometimes forget that 99.99% of their country men could not give a flying fuck if they won the national championship in their respective game. That’s why it’s a good idea to keep shit to yourself and TRY to stay humble. Afterall, it really is just a fuckin’ game…
EDIT: ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL @ Ronald McDonald Kim. That douche bag doesn’t make 1/10th of what a professional athlete does. Please don’t compare pro sports to “pro” CS. CS is fuckin’ dirt garbage (to quote Blue lol)…
To professionals its a job NOT a game. There is a huge difference and if you ever got to that level you would see that immedialty. When salaries get involved its not “Just a game” its your fkn job and career. And you dont know Ron. All you have to go on is the same shit everyon else here has. ASSUMPTIONS. I do and have before he started playing CS. And the guy has made more money than any single person in this business. Your pure ignorance on the simple facts shows that you like most ppl here dont have a clue what they are talking about when it comes to Esports. And in comparison. To an average NHL player he makes more money in a season of CGS. Once again i need to reaffirm the simple face that SRK doesnt really know anything about that shit and once again im going to say im here to clear all that up.
Because unlike you my friend I have been to CPL, WCG and ESWC and placed in all events, played with the pros and even peed on Fat's bear he has on his moniter at all times with Rival. I would even go so far to say that i was the first person to use fastswitch consistently and apply it in leagues. I dont want to put comparisons or talk big but like i said before i helped bring CS to the level it is now in America. I even convinced NIP to come down here for the first ever CPL personally. Plz understand that in this conversation you ARE actually dealing with someone that has been there and is still deep into the scene. Im made my living off of this and still do to this day. So if you have anything decent questions to ask go ahead.
Gaming is not a sport. There’s nothing “pro” about it. Ronald makes his money off sponsors and shit, and I know for a fact he still can’t compare to any decent pro athlete. I don’t have any questions, because there are none worth asking. “Pro” gaming is a joke…when you start thinking you’re “pro”.
Pro gaming is not “pro” because a “pro” could teach an intelligent person how to get to that same level in a year…TOPS. Now see if you can get to the NBA/NHL/whatever in 10 years, let alone one. Fuckin’ please.
Um. The difference between a game and a sport is the necessity of physical ability. No one is denying that. Besides being textbook argumentum ad crumenam (appeal to wealth), the point that a professional athelete makes ludicrous amounts of money is not being disputed, and really doesn’t pertain to this matter at all. If a person is being paid to do something, especially if they’re paid enough to support themselves, they can be considered a professional at whatever they’re being paid for. Also: As far as I know, sponsors effectively pay the salary of professional atheletes as well.
Again, physical ability can’t be taught, and professionalism is defined strictly by whether a person is being paid (arguably paid a viable living) to do whatever it is that they are doing. What’s your point again?
But it can be developed. My point is that it’s a fucking disgrace to all the people in the world that actually work to become something to call gaming a profession. Gaming is about as much of a profession as jerking off.
There’s tons of jobs that could be thought of as a “disgrace to all the people in the world that actually work.” That’s a different and unrelated point.
I mean models stand around and have pictures taken of them. Sure they have to stay in shape, but the modeling agencies supply them with trainers half the time.
Or what about a food critic? All the guy does is eat and give his opinion and he’s paid for that. Tell any construction worker and they’ll call that a disgrace too.
Just because it’s not rocket science doesn’t mean you can’t be a pro at it.
If someone were able to make their living by doing either of those activities, then both could be considered professions by definition. Flipping burgers is a profession, and can be taught in a single day. I’m very uninformed on the state of gaming as a viable means to earn money, and so I won’t argue that point, but your misinterpretation of the word “professional” seems to be the reason you’re pressing the point.
A burger flipper provides a service we can all appreciate. I understand what a profession is. I’m merely saying the fact that they get payed to play (shitty) videogames is a fucking disgrace.
And atheletes are paid to play sports, which also serves no pragmatic purpose other than entertaining people who enjoy the sport. That doesn’t mean that some great evil is being perpetrated should they be paid to do so. People will pay money for almost anything, so calling it a “disgrace” for someone to get paid for something is splitting hairs at best.
I don’t have beef with people who like sports. I just don’t like people that says everyone should like sports just because they do. Get the fuck out of here with that shit douchebag
