Comeback mechanics. How can the be done 'right'?

people who think “comeback” mechanics work please agree/disagree with this statement

in the nba as one team scores more the opposite hoop’s area should increase so as to facilitate a possible comeback for the losing team

SF=/=Basketball.

i said “agree/disagree” not “agree/disagree/backpedal”

There’s a clear difference between videogames and real life sports. If you cite real life competition as reference, than you just compared something with fireballs and hurricane kicks to life. That is why it’s a bad idea to do that.

I didn’t back pedal. I would disagree because SF is not Basketball.

there’s also a clear difference between street fighter and halo so you can go ahead and throw that comparison out, genius

And that there, ladies and gentlemen, is the exact problem. Just because it’s only a game it shouldn’t be taken less serious than a “real” sport. You want real competition, real media coverage, take the games you play serious for starters. Basketball is just as much a game to play for fun as it is to be taken seriously, much like most videogames. You say his example is ridiculous, that just goes to show how ridiculous these co-called comeback-mechanics are.

Well played, pimp bishop.

lolol bias.

I agree that come back mechanics need to be apply and welcomed.

Also pimp bishop donjon makes good point. The exchanging of position of the ball is come back mechanics.

Its not out of order at all to combine physical sport and virtual sports. granted if present accordingly.

Thats not what I said at all.

Honestly point-based games with a time limit are kinda silly and I can see them warranting comeback mechanics really. I mean in Quake when someone has a 10 frag lead and there’s only a couple minutes left it’s a pretty lame duck section of gameplay… really the solution I think though is that you should just play first to however many points but I’m sure the basketball, soccer, Quake communities etc. would object to that for some reason.

why are people still trying to reason/argue with that fool kalyx. look at all of his posts in this thread, just pure garbage.

basketball and sf are similar in what matters. it’s a competition and one side needs to beat the other. don’t give that bs/weak ass argument of sf is not real life and talk about fireballs and hurricane kicks. that’s totally avoiding the point and a crappy reply in general…though that is expected of kalyx…

i would say the offense/defense switching in a game of basketball is similar to that of street fighter but on a much bigger time scale

LOL@ noobs thinking comeback mechanics haven’t been done right.

Samurai Spirits have been doing them well for ages now. Fuck up a Issen and then tell me how you’ll win after that.

I would not know how they would object. I mean The person earn their 10 frags by seeking and fragging their opponents, if that person gain a lead and choose to secure it in some ways than why is it lame?

If you just feel uncomfortable with it and cant explain its no more than a rant.

No

But it is not as static in other games. SFIV for example rewards the winning player with Super meter and access to EX moves.

In your NBA example; this would be equivalent letting players jump higher and throw farther if they get a basket.

The problem with Ultra moves as SFIV implements them is not that it rewards the losing team with an easier target, it is that it rewards them by letting them score a basket for 10 points instead of 2.

They’re both competitive videogames. So yeah, that’s not gonna stop.

this shit is just as stupid as rewarding the losing player

well that is pretty stupid but maybe try using a decent fps like quakeworld or vq3 or cpm?

hmmm…

Maybe the Ultra in SF4 should be a “one per match” instead of a one per round?

Or, “you lose your super meter after doing it”. It means no EX moves and no “super” for the rest of the round if you fuck it up.

People will start thinking twice before throwing their Ultras and tend to use them as “finishers” rather than “Comeback mechanics”?

P.s I didn’t read the whole thread, sorry if this was already mentionned by someone.

Ok here where you lose me. You think their rewarding the loser with the ultra but tell me this. Once some one gets an ultra their not immediately rewarded, but just given an option. But that’s only half the scenario, they only truly rewarding if used the ultra effectively. Ultra are not guaranteed in any way.

Being a pickey fuck over an example doesn’t help the argument. It wasn’t bout the quality of the FPS but about how they let you customize the rules.
