Just popped in to give my thoughts on SSF43D.
How the fuck did they manage to make an exact replica of the console game is beyond me and also a bit scary. 3D mode is great (especially if playing the Dynamic Camera where you see over the shoulder) but cuts the framerate to what seems to be 30fps. Without 3D on, 60fps goodness.
The game is exactly the same. All characters, all non-Super DLC, however all colors and taunts are available off the bat. While the backgrounds are no longer animated, they’re all there. The saddest thing is losing the eclipse on Solar Eclipse, but whatever.
All modes are there. Odd thing is that there’s not Ranked/Player match, just Player Match which is ranked… but allows for rematches lol Yeah I stopped doing that after a while.
All icons and titles are there, and unlocked the same way. Yes, this means that the fucking trials are there for the third fucking time fuck fuck. Which would be GREAT if it wasn’t for the it not being on an arcade stick thing. The analog stick is pretty decent but i run into the same problem as with the pad’s analog stick… “Am I fucking blocking low or just crouching? smack Crouching, then.” The D-pad is slightly clicky but comfortable for those who use D-Pad, or hate analog sticks.
The mechanics are completely the same as the console game, and the character models look very nice (except Seth who looks like a statue but whatever, fuck Seth).
I WILL SAY THIS, HOWEVER: the AI is much less forgiving for some reason. On medium, Honda knew to use the invincibility on the light Headbutt to stuff every jumping attack, unless he knew the range was off then he’s use anti-air normals. It’s pretty hilarious. And sad.
Dynamic Mode is nice (over the shoulder camera), and even nicer-looking in 3D. HOWEVER, relearning the distances so as to not be punished and relearning your poking and zoning is an exercise in patience. Still, it’s a very interesting way to play the game, and I find myself playing that mode more.
