Clocks, how do they w0rk? Strider Hiryu Discussion thread

Poor Clockw0rk, legendary fighter. Give him a break, he hasn’t even begun to tap the potential of strider in UMVC3. As far as we know, he may end up playing Ghost Rider because strider may not have the same feel to him.

:qcb::l:: Tiger Shot

from the vid, ghost rider is looking more and more like a pain to deal with due to the reach on that damn bike chain of his. it’s crazy. half-screen normals ftw.

in other news, I re-watched the video and saw a magneto doing the corner grav loop. I’m a happy freakin’ camper right now since it’s still intact circa SDCC build.

I can see strider / zero getting along. Shippuga assist is untechable knockdown, so it’d help with strider’s OTG. The full screen slash assist would be useful for zero’s command dash mixup… I see it being like disruptor. Dive kick assist also uses ground bounce, which Zero doesn’t use himself, so it could do some combo extension for zero. Depending on how fast it is, maybe buster into dive kick would help combo buster from full screen?

Also Legion > Sougenmou = lol unblockables.

To be totally honest, I’m looking forward to what they do with Strider in UMvC3 because even though I loved his playstyle in MvC2, that isn’t really what I want in this game. Characters evolve, I mean Strider has been using Ouroburos as a pretty good piece of him game since MvC1, so I’m ready for a little change of pace. Instead I’m gonna be thinking of some teams that can take advantage of his teleports and possibly create some knockdown mixups around those.

Maybe Strider/Doom/Dante? Probably rockin’ Doom’s Plasma Beam for some horizontal coverage and Dante’s Jam Session for vertical. Basic and it probably won’t be the most effective team but we still have a while to go and I’m eager to see what goes down, especially in a few days at EVO.

Forgot to mention that in this thread, Legion into Sougenmu would set-up some easy unblockable for Zero.

Why are you guys wanting to shoehorn Strider so badly into ouroboros? So long as he has pimp normals, a solid teleport and is fast he’ll still be good. Besides, his animals got better, he can get an orb and shoot it in less than a second. Holy balls man, Strider is 6 shades of bastard so far, I could care less if he get the orbs back.

Strider needed orbs in 2 because he didn’t have much going for him there, here they gave him a lot more to work with and nerfed the orbs. I rather have a rounder character than one gimmick brought back.

Legion OTG, fucking christ that’s awesome.

An OTG super that does like 10%… woo!

Oroboros was fun, I think with the bitch health he has, he could use it. It’s not like push block won’t anally rape it (push blocking for extended block stun makes it so the cross up attack following it is auto blocked anyway). You can do the same stuff with an assist for free with Dante / Wolverine / Zero anyway so it’s not like it’s some crazy broke super. Long as they go to good lengths to balance it (other than making it a level 3) I don’t see why it’d be a big deal.

No offense to clockwork, hes the man. But this thread title is really dumb.

Im curious on how his assist will turn out to be, because I don’t see him being on point since he looks like a meter hog. But who knows.

I wonder if combo, Legion OTG, XF, Orbs would be as crazy as it sounds. Or even work.

His teleport-kick assist seems legit but once again this is an early build of the game lol. Maybe this thread was made way too early…

It was made later than any other character thread for the series thus far. Literally every single other thread was made the moment the official announcement was made.

this thread should be called “how do clocks fail?” lol

or maybe “the clockw0rk nut huggers thread”

jk, but srsly why name it after clock? He hasn’t even posted in this thread…

Here’s an idea:
Strider with Ouroboros active doing what he does best and keep meter built with Morrigan’s Dark Harmonizer assist = awesomeness
thoughts??

You can look at it this way - the producer for UMVC3 walked up to clockwork and said “You are very famous Strider player. Nice to meet you.” and then proceeded to get a picture of the two of them with his cell phone.

He then tweets it and captioned it with “Strider is back! With Mr. Clockw0rk” - http://twitpic.com/5ut2r6

That’s why it’s named after clock. The two have kind of a history together.

Why are people whining that Strider isn’t super dependant on Ouroboros?

Are none of you whiners excited that Strider has enough going for him that he won’t need Ouroboros on him all match? Or did you just want Strider to be exactly like his MvC2 self?

To the dude who said Strider should never be mid tier: Go kill yourself please.

So let’s see…we have this character that appears to be crazy good, and one of his hypers might not be as good as the others. And what are we bitching about?

i was getting ready to say the same thing “he was top tier in the other games so they should make him top tier” is the most retarded statement i have ever seen(this week) honestly i hope strider is mid-tier so i can find out the “real” strider fans so many people claim to love strider but like nick said if hes god-tier or ass-tier lots of people will turn on him

thats the thing that i dont get , half of these people complaining about ouroboros want to pretend they can replicate 10% of what clock was able to do in mvc2 .

I hear you, the animals were much better in MVC2. However, as a character he evolved much differently from MVC1 to 2 along with his orbs. He didn’t need to chip in 1 as his damage was much higher thereby locking down and chipping was unnecessary. I believe Strider/Doom was conceived out of the fact that he had nothing that created high damage. In 1 he did not need the animals as he was a rush down based character who never really used the teleport unless his orbs were on or if you dropped Lou. He had the hardest hitting ground combo in the game if you recall, “Golden Ghram” combo that was 4 hits that took close to 40% life with no super. Also I would say duo hyper attack with War machine did its fair share of chip as well (50% for free).

Overall my post was not necessarily which had the better orbs, but which was the better incarnation. Striderine, Strider/WarMachine, overall Strider teams dominated the first few years of MVC1 before Red venom and DWM teams were filled, so yah I’d say MVC1 Strider had a bit of an edge. Outside of Clock you can’t really say Strider was that elite in MVC2. Either way regardless, lock down with orbs is gone now. They’ve basically chastised him as of now and I hope they revisit the resources required to activate Ourbouros.
