Clocks, how do they w0rk? Strider Hiryu Discussion thread

I’m having trouble getting off Strider’s teleport falling j.lk into double jump j.h with Dante jam session assist. I do H+assist, M teleport, j.lk, double jump, j.h. But everytime I double jump after the j.lk connects, jam session pushes the opponent away from Strider and j.h misses. Is there a way to make it work?

oh i guess i should have also said that morrigan is not the target doom is. With enough meter and an install character behind strider you can kill him in one set up. More or less its anti HM .

So im curious if someone could help me out with these things:

  1. What are striders options to make his pressure / confirms safe? Is it basically just cancelling into satellite > pressure string > fire satellite to make it safe > repeat (thats obviously a very simple flowchart, but you know what I mean).

  2. What are a few of Striders solo mixup options (non xfac / in xfac). Is it just animals > teleport? Anything else ?

  3. Combos? I tried asking in the combo thread but didnt get a real response. What should I be doing combo wise from a hit confirm, and while orbs are active also?

I would REALLY appreciate if anyone could help me out.

Hey stars… these forums are dead but i’ll share what i know/do.

1-Yeah orb summoning and orb firing is pretty much strider’s life blood due to his buttons being negative for the most part. also tick throwing is really good for him especially when you condition them with things like staggered cr. L. into orb toss(this beats any button as well as xfgc). you can rack up a ton of damage through block strings with tigers and orbs basically you want to keep attacking as safely as possible to help yourself build meter.

2- Solo mix ups with X factor…hmm on incoming i like to summoning bomb bird toss regular bird then wall cling. You can also call 2 bombbirds and dash back and forth for the mix up(kinda scrubby but who cares) i really like doing this against characters who fly or air dash. 9/10 the first time there are going to air dash then you vajra them into death. If you just activate during neutral(both characters on the ground in play) i recommend going for throws because everyone is looking for Vajra or teleport. Legion x factor teleport or dash in is a good mix up for solo strider. it gets you in forces a guess if they guess wrong they are dead. people love to super jump when you’re x factored birb bomb tiger is going to be your best friend learn to use these to cover his angles. Without X factor it is a lot harder to open people up. you are just really going to have to pick your spots. always ALWAYS ALWAYS HAVE AN ORB did i mention always? Learn a combo that you like that gives you good oki… Birb bomb is super important…legion sucks orbs suck save meter for ragnarok unless its going to kill. Orbs without x factor is just a waste of meter IMO. unless you need the last little bit of chip to finish off someone.

3)combos…thats really going to depend on your team but if you’re talking about solo strider. without orb i usually go with blah blah into Launcher m. dj h,s orb summon wall cling etc etc. i like this combo because it allows you to finish with an orb summoned isn’t affected by not having an orb to start with(sometimes those fuckers walk away mid combo). With an orb summoned you can stick with the standard l,m,h,6h, dp+l, toss orb etc etc. there are much fancier combos out there if you wanna try those but i’d rather stick with whats practical over whats optimal since you’re probably talking about a 40% ish? increase in bar for maybe 50-70k more damage for a much much harder combo.

So, I’m learning Strider, and loving him. Vajra’s fun and all, but my favorite thing is how damn far I can punish from. First time I used Strider on my sparring buddy, he meteor smashed across the screen, dash slide XF, dead. “Da fuk?” It felt good.

But when it comes to his cheap stuff, the orbs, I’m lost. Right now, I know to wavedash a lot and occasionally teleport M or possibly vajra. And I know there’s more. I see clockwork using j.L doublejump stuff, and I’m wondering how I make that effective. Also, once I get a hit with orbs, anything I can do to get more damage before resetting?

Basically, and I bet people have asked this before, what is the way to go the most ham, once I press the cheap stuff button?

Oh, and I’m not sure if this should go here or in the combo thread, but those birdbomb slide launch doublejump j.S loops in XF3, how much damage can I do with that before I need to super? I am not great at those, so I drop a bit, and I feel I should just meter, but the prospect of meter gain is often too tempting. Also, I’m too in the moment and forget to keep it simpler.

Oh, and a lot of questions, sorry, but I see people online doing raw vajra in XF3. What’s the frames on that? Because it sounds dumb as hell, I can just chickenblock into throw, right?

Just saw this maybe I can help…on orbs if they’re blocking everything try to double jump into j.L or regular jump to j.L > double jump into another j.L etc, then go to your orbs loop (jH > jqcf.L) also excalibur (jump qcf.L) leaves you at +11 on block I believe…REALLY good move.

XF3 bird bomb loop is kinda hard at first but once you get it its easy…basically in XF3 you don’t ever need to use meter if you know that loop but I do sometimes just to be sure.

Raw vajra XF or not is always throw punishable, you don’t even have to chicken block it.

Oh and always have an orb charged. Comes out in 2 frames and you need it for most combos. If they try to XF guard cancel just throw it and you’ll hit them.

AGAIN EXCALIBUR L IS GODLIKE

[quote=“straycat, post:1126, topic:130154”]

What makes exacliber L godlike? online its pretty good but offline i’ve been thrown for doing it. I know the book says that its plus frames but i’ve done it then stuck out a jab and been thrown for it so please share.

Question, guys. Anyone have any tips on how to consistently hit this one combo? It’s after the ground bounce wall cling H into j.623H. I can’t seem to get the part afterwards where you do Orb summon then 623L. The 623L will barely miss half of the time. Is there a tip on landing this or is this one of those combos where people avoid because of it’s inconsistent?

If you do it perfectly, you shouldn’t be thrown out of it, even if you do stick out a jab.

what does that mean? do it perfectly. it can be blocked high or low if i recall corretly so why tk this when you can use an actual overhead?

I meant that if you time your jab after L Excalibur is blocked, you shouldn’t be thrown. If you record it in training mode, they shouldn’t be able to press any buttons since it’s a valid blockstring. As for when I use it, I don’t TK it nor do I substitute it for j.H or j.S. I use it as a pressure tool if they end up blocking my air normals and special cancel into it. If they don’t push block, I’ll jab and tick throw or pressure into a mixup.

Does any one have any good Strider matches I should be watching? I’m still not sure what I should be doing with this character, and it’s been a while. I’m looking for both good non-xf solutions with / without assists as well as xf2-3 solutions. All I’ve been able to pull off so far is just stray hits everywhere and it gets annoying that I have to reset a character 3 times before I get a kill.

I haven’t found too many videos for that guy above, but his Strider is really solid and he runs it on point.
Also, just search on YouTube for players like Clockwork, EMP Crazy Joe, Marvelo, and other players I am currently blanking on.

They’re probably chicken blocking it or you’re doing it from SJ height so the last hit they block is very high from the ground. If all hits are blocked while standing you should be at frame advantage, if you’re unsure and have a satellite out just shoot it and be safe. (Satellite is safe at point blank right?)

Also I played Marvelo last night and when it comes down to a Strider mirror with no xfactor the advantage goes to whoever has a satellite and making sure he doesn’t have time to charge one for him or making him waste it early.

Strider mirrors are all about who pops Orbs first tbh. Strider dies really fast, so you need to make sure you get the orbs first.

WIthout x-factor or meter it’s just all about your spacing and getting your rushdown in place first. Rush him down and don’t let him get a chance to start.

Get your 88’s in check, satellite canceling, and formations.

Is there any players I can watch for on point strider?

What button are you guys using to stat your offense? Standing light seems piss poor and i only really use cr. L to tick throw since his standing M is so much better. Should i just go into standing M summon standing/Crouching for a frame trap?

vajra assist can be comboed into a grab at around the first frame it hits. i was experimenting with tick throw set ups with that assist and i noticed it would hit and i’d still get the throw whether it’s a command grab or normal throw and it would register as a hit in a combo. if this has been mentioned somewhere before on this board or on a video somewhere apologies just wanted to share my discovery.

st.L is a weird trick to use for offense. Its negative on block but since it can be rapid fired, you can use it to for mind game offense

you can do stuff like st.L, upfwdx2, wait falling j.h for OS xup. Since its negative on block, the opponent can try mashing normals to stop you next time but you can retaliate with st.L, chain c.L xN and in turn, this sets up all kinds of mind games like staggers ick throws. If they push the whole series, satellite is free and you should know what to do from there.

but yea, I agree with velo. All the variations of H, cancel satellite is 0 on block making it his best possible chain and once you have the satellite you’re good to go. Its also good to use H variations because of the range. Against most of the cast, you can out space them and get your shit going quite easily. Using L to set up your offense means you’re getting into pretty much EVERY characters range and he can start to be hit quite frequently. I use the L variations though because I’m pretty comfortable with strider but I do use the H variations significantly more. Its safer, easier to setup and the follow up off satellite pressure is free even when pushed blocked. using L to setup his offense does yield some “wtf did I just get hit by” type of shit though and you can break their brain. Typically, I use the H satellite stuff to set up my L options though.

I have no idea if this thread is still alive but I was wondering how Strider was for a new player. I’ve bounced some ideas off some people about prospective teams and every time the subject of how good Strider anchor is for my team is brought up (yes I know I fucking butchered that sentence but my brain isn’t “on” right now I’m a bit tired.) I was initially put off by the idea of a character that need xfactor to be scary. Mind you that last bit is just kind of what I’ve been told, I don’t really know enough about this game to have a personal opinion worth half a damn.

Anyway I became interested in Strider when I realized how well his vajra assist can cover the upper-right quadrant of the screen and that he apparently has strong mix-up potential outside of xfactor that allows him to actually open people up.

So how IS Strider for a beginner? I hear that he’s quite technical but I’d really like a second opinion on this.
